Clan Rise: Starting as a Grandfather

Chapter 218: Chapter 210: It’s been a long time since I’ve killed, this sword has become quite unfamiliar!

Inside the carriage, Yang Yunxue stared blankly at the arrowhead that was nearly before her eyes. Had Yu Qingyi not grabbed the arrow, it definitely would have struck her.

”Get down!”

Yu Qingyi pressed down on Yang Yunxue, who was still in a daze, and in the next instant, drew her sword and leapt out of the carriage.

”Mother, be careful!”

Yang Yunxue regained her senses and hurriedly shouted.

At this moment, more than a dozen figures clad in black were already rushing towards the convoy from the hillside.

In the blink of an eye, the two sides entered close-quarter combat.

Su Bai paid no attention to the others, and led two Postnatal Martial Artists, charging directly towards the carriage.

Just as they were a dozen steps away from the carriage, Yu Qingyi burst out from within.

”Where from are these thieves, daring to ambush this lady!”

Yu Qingyi held her sword in one hand, her bright eyes fixating on the three, including Su Bai, with excitement flickering within.

Naturally, she did not recognize Su Bai and the others, as for her excited mood.

As a Jianghu Martial Artist, she should have been wandering worldly society, but ever since she married into the Yang family, she became a domesticated woman.

For more than two years, she practiced her cultivation every day, but never truly fought.

Simply put, she was stifled, and now finally had the opportunity to fight again, so it was natural for her to feel some excitement.

Su Bai, seeing Yu Qingyi, felt something was amiss, but what exactly he couldn’t pinpoint while in the heat of the moment. He could only lead his companions in a rush towards Yu Qingyi.

The three wielded knives, coordinating with each other. In a flash, the blades shimmered, sweeping toward Yu Qingyi.

Yu Qingyi’s sword traced a circular pattern, her blade dancing like a rainbow, moving in rapid succession.

Clang clang clang.

In an instant, she parried away all the knives’ edges.

Feeling the force through his knife handle, Su Bai’s face changed.

”Not a Postnatal Sixth Layer!”

A layer difference shouldn’t have made him feel so powerless.

But now he couldn’t even hold onto his knife; the overpowering force made the knife fly out of his hand in a flash.

”Hmph, mere scoundrels, courting death!”

Yu Qingyi’s sword danced, her figure nimble as a swallow as it flitted among the three.

Nourished by the Spiritual Spring Water, Yang Zhenshan went from being critically injured to a Postnatal Third Layer Martial Artist in two years, while Yu Qingyi had merely advanced one level of cultivation.

But the true benefit Yu Qingyi received wasn’t just in cultivation, but also in physical enhancement.

The Spiritual Spring Water didn’t specifically enhance cultivation; its effect was to strengthen the physique and elevate bodily potential; the increase in cultivation was merely a secondary effect.

While two years were not enough for Yu Qingyi’s physique to reach the terrifying degree of Yang Zhenshan, it had undergone substantial changes.

The most direct manifestation was her strength far surpassing Martial Artists of the same level.

Yu Qingyi naturally understood her own changes, but she didn’t suspect Yang Zhenshan had any special methods to enhance one’s physique. After all, in these two years, Yang Zhenshan had provided her with numerous Treasure Medicines.

Golden Blood Vine, moon star, ginseng of a hundred years – Yang Zhenshan did not withhold any Treasure Medicine discovered in the underground space, using them entirely on the members of the Yang family. His aim was to mask the existence of the Spiritual Spring Water.

Amid the fleeting sword light, fresh red blood droplets sprayed out amongst shattered snowflakes.

Yu Qingyi leaped out several meters and suddenly stopped, her sword pointing downward, dripping blood onto the fallen snow, instantly melting a vivid flower from the snow.

She turned her head to look at Su Bai, her bright eyes carrying a hint of doubt and dissatisfaction.

Of the three, only Su Bai himself had avoided her sword edge.

”It’s been too long since I’ve killed, this sword has grown somewhat rusty!”

Yu Qingyi was very dissatisfied that Su Bai had dodged her sword edge.

It had been more than two years since her last true fight, and though she practiced her Swordsmanship routinely, there was a difference between practice and combat.

Su Bai trembled.

He was wrong!

He had made a gross underestimation of the Yang family’s strength, as well as that of Yu Qingyi and the surrounding Yang Family Guards.

Observing his surroundings, Su Bai was filled with dread.

But in a short moment, the henchmen he had brought were largely dead or injured.

Even though they had launched a surprise attack and gained the upper hand, once engaged in close combat, his men suffered heavy casualties almost immediately.

”This~~”

Su Bai could hardly believe it, ”How could this be possible?”

The subordinates he had brought with him, though not top experts, were elite forces cultivated by the Marquis Jingyuan Mansion at great expense.

It is easy to train a Martial Artist, but it is not easy to cultivate a group of Martial Artists with solid cultivation who are also utterly loyal.

With the backing of the Marquis Jingyuan Mansion, they only had over a hundred elite Martial Artists.

But this time, more than ten had fallen at once.

Even his own life was now in jeopardy, which was something he found hard to accept.

But no matter how unacceptable, he understood that now was not the time for hesitation.

”Retreat!”

Su Bai made a decisive decision, opting to withdraw immediately upon realizing he was no match for Yu Qingyi.

But as he thought to flee, would Yu Qingyi let him escape?

Just as he turned to run, Yu Qingyi’s sword chased after him like a glint of cold light.

The pale, scattered snowflakes and the bright sword blade brushed past Su Bai’s neck, drawing a trail of blood beads.

Su Bai didn’t care anymore, shifting his body and changing direction as he fled desperately.

Unfortunately, when it came to speed, he was still no match for Yu Qingyi.

The pallid sword tip, like a venomous snake, closely pursued Su Bai’s nape; with a crack, the blade pierced through the back of his neck, protruding from his throat.

Su Bai’s figure came to an abrupt halt, blood foaming from his mouth and nose, his eyes filled with an unwillingness and fear.

Death was approaching, and he was about to leave this world.

Yet he wasn’t prepared to depart from this world; everything had happened too suddenly.

Yu Qingyi looked at Su Bai, his face smeared with blood, her brows slightly furrowed, a wave of nausea rising in her chest.

Yu Qingyi couldn’t help it; she pulled out her long sword and ran to the side of the road to vomit.

”Madam!”

Having just dealt with an assassin, Nanny Song and Nanny Lin quickly ran over.

”I’m fine!”

Yu Qingyi heaved a few times, then waved her hand saying, ”This child really knows how to cause trouble!”

Her lips curled into a slight smile, her face brimming with happiness, showing no trepidation or unease from the murder just committed.

Jianghu Martial Artists have long been accustomed to bloodshed and would hardly feel uneasy about killing a person.

Seeing that she really was alright, Nanny Song and Nanny Lin also relaxed, ”Madam, let me help you onto the carriage.”

Yu Qingyi looked up at the battle which had almost ended, and slightly nodded.

”Mother, are you okay?”

Inside the carriage, Yang Yunxue looked anxiously at Yu Qingyi.

”Don’t worry, I’m fine!” Yu Qingyi said with a smile in her eyes and gently ruffled Yang Yunxue’s hair.

Although Yang Yunxue’s cultivation was not bad, she was just a young lady of the household, having never truly battled in her life.

Suddenly faced with an ambush, Yang Yunxue had no idea how to help fight the enemy; her mind was full of worry and panic.

By the time she calmed down, the battle outside was almost over.

At this moment, Yang Yunxue said somewhat ashamedly, ”Daughter has caused trouble for Mother!”

Although Yu Qingyi was a stepmother, her genuine care over the past two years had made Yang Yunxue accept her presence.

Though their relationship was not as close as that of a biological mother and daughter, they shared a modicum of maternal affection.

Yu Qingyi handed her sword to Nanny Song outside the carriage, opened her arms and hugged Yang Yunxue and Wang Yunqiao, saying tenderly, ”Silly girl, we are family, no need for such talk about trouble.”

”Um!” Yang Yunxue and Wang Yunqiao snuggled securely in her embrace.

A short while later, the battle outside came to a complete end.

”Sister Master!” Wu Zhan stood outside the carriage, cupping his fists calling out.

Yu Qingyi lifted the carriage curtain, glanced at the guards who were cleaning up the traces of battle, ”Any news?”

”The enemy totaled fourteen men, among them four were Postnatal Martial Artists, Refining Power Level warriors. Judging by their moves, they should be trained dead soldiers from some force!”

”Um, we captured two alive, but they have already committed suicide by poison!” Wu Zhan reported.

Yu Qingyi’s brows tightened slightly.

Dead soldiers!

This was clearly not the work of ordinary Green Forest forces, and there were no Green Forest Heroes in Chongshan Town.

As for Jianghu forces, that was even less likely; she knew all too well the Jianghu forces of Chongshan Town.

The only remaining possibility was that these men were dispatched by some force within the officialdom.

”It seems they didn’t understand us!” said Yu Qingyi.

If they truly understood their strength, the enemy would not have sent these men to their deaths.

”Um!” Wu Zhan nodded and asked, ”Sister Master, what shall we do next? Shall we return or continue to Chongshan Pass?”

Yu Qingyi thought for a moment and said, ”Let’s continue towards Chongshan Pass, but arrange for two people to go back and report the situation here to the master!”

They had an appointment with the Marquis Mansion; they would visit tomorrow. Despite the trouble they faced, it would be improper to break the appointment.

”Yes!” Wu Zhan responded and immediately arranged for two guards to return to An Yuan City.

After a brief tidying up, they resumed their journey and continued towards Chongshan Pass.

By the time Yang Zhenshan received the message, it was already deep into the night.

Two guards, braving the wind and snow, raced back, their faces red with cold.

Upon hearing the complete report from the two guards, Yang Zhenshan’s expression darkened considerably.

Ambush!

In the years since he came to this world, this was the first time he encountered such a thing.

Such brazen ambushing of government relatives, such reckless actions, filled Yang Zhenshan with intense anger.

”Summon someone, ready the horses!”

Without another word, he rode out of An Yuan City with twenty personal followers at a gallop.

The night was dim, and their speed was not fast. It was not until late at night that they arrived at the place where Yu Qingyi was ambushed.

When Wu Zhan and the others left, they merely dumped the bodies in the jungle beside the road.

The earth was freezing, and when Yang Zhenshan and his group arrived, several hyenas were gnawing at the corpses in the woods.

Torches were lit, driving away the fierce hyenas, and Yang Zhenshan stepped forward to examine all the bodies.

These people had no identification on them, and their clothing and weapons bore no distinctive marks; they were obviously concealing their identities.

However, Yang Zhenshan had seen Su Bai before.

As Yang Zhenshan recognized Su Bai’s face, a surge of intense rage shot through his dark eyes.

Su Bai, from Marquis Jingyuan Mansion!
