Clan Rise: Starting as a Grandfather

Chapter 211: Chapter 205: The Lady is Pregnant!

Quickly, three days passed, and Yang Zhenshan first received a reply from Zhou Lan, who was also very surprised about this.

She had not received any information beforehand and was unclear as to why Liang Chu was doing this, but she speculated that it might be related to the situation in the Capital City.

According to her, the struggle within the court was severe, with the heart of the struggle being the imperial succession.

Emperor Chengping was getting on in years and his health was in decline; it’s feared that he does not have many years left. Emperor Chengping had many sons, and among his adult princes, at least seven were quite influential, aside from the Crown Prince. The Third Prince, the Fifth Prince, and the Sixth Prince all held significant force within the court.

The struggle between the Crown Prince and these three princes had become increasingly fierce. As the General of Chongshan Town and in control of tens of thousands of elite troops, Marquis Changping naturally became a target for alliances by various forces.

According to Zhou Lan’s guess, it’s very likely that someone wanted to rope in Liang Chu through a marital alliance, and Liang Chu probably did not wish to comply, hence seeking a marriage for Third Young Master Liang within Chongshan Town.

This was merely her speculation. For specifics, she would inquire with Duke Ning Mansion and it would take a few more days before she could update Yang Zhenshan.

After reading Zhou Lan’s letter, Yang Zhenshan’s brow furrowed deeply.

Damn, such a little thing, and it actually involves a struggle for the throne.

As a modern person, he was naturally well aware of the cruelty of the struggle for the throne; getting involved in it could lead to the destruction of one’s family at any time.

Yang Zhenshan naturally did not want to get involved in such matters.

He was just a small garrison commander now, and if he were to get involved in this, he might very well become cannon fodder and could be sold out at any moment.

”Trouble!”

Yang Zhenshan muttered these two words with a somber expression.

...

Two days later, Ding Qiu returned from Chongshan Pass.

”Master, the reputation of Third Young Master Liang is quite good. According to the information we’ve gathered, he has a gentle nature and has never done anything to bully men or dominate women!”

”Furthermore, from an early age, Third Young Master Liang has been well-versed in literature; he is exceptionally talented and has written quite a bit of poetry!”

As he spoke, Ding Qiu handed a stack of transcribed poems to Yang Zhenshan.

Yang Zhenshan glanced over them and then pursed his lips.

What crappy poetry?

If I, the master, liked copying poetry, I would have long been the Poetry Sage of Da Rong.

Well, actually, he didn’t understand the good or bad of these poems.

Ding Qiu continued, ”Third Young Master Liang has also practiced Martial Arts, but compared to the young lady, he falls far short. It’s said that he became a Martial Artist just a few months ago, and compared with the young lady, he is worlds apart.”

As he said this, Ding Qiu’s face showed a touch of disdain.

What kind of person is their young lady?

That is a true martial arts prodigy!

Becoming a Martial Artist at just fifteen, and not even sixteen yet, she’s already a Martial Artist at the Refining Power Level, and she might even break through to the Postnatal Realm in a few months.

Compared with the young lady, this Third Young Master Liang is just too lacking.

After hearing this, Yang Zhenshan did not think any less of Third Young Master Liang.

Practicing Martial Arts typically starts at around fifteen, and anyone who can become a Martial Artist before eighteen is considered talented.

Third Young Master Liang is only sixteen this year, and although he is not an unmatched genius, his talents are quite decent too.

Looking at it this way, Third Young Master Liang is both literarily and martially talented.

His character is good, his background is good; he seems to be a good match.

”Is this all?”

”For now, this is all we’ve found out!” said Ding Qiu.

Yang Zhenshan thought for a moment and then instructed, ”Continue to investigate, hmm, see if Third Young Master Liang has any concubines, or any close female cousins, or girlfriends from childhood.”

”How many concubines does Marquis Liang have? Do any other members of the Liang family have concubines?”

”Get all this clear for me!”

In noble families, it is common to have multiple wives and concubines.

But this is truly distressing for the women.

He can’t manage others, but he can’t let his daughter suffer such grievances.

”Yes, sir!” Ding Qiu complied.

Yang Zhenshan gave a few more instructions and then dismissed Ding Qiu.

After Ding Qiu left, Yu Qingyi next to him looked at him with an unusual gaze.

”Why are you looking at me like that?” Yang Zhenshan asked, somewhat perplexed.

With a smile in her eyes, Yu Qingyi said, ”Master seems to really dislike concubines!”

In Yu Qingyi’s eyes, Yang Zhenshan was definitely the best husband in the world.

Just the fact that he didn’t take in concubines made her absolutely devoted to Yang Zhenshan.

”Uh, I just don’t like those messy and shady affairs of the inner house!” Yang Zhenshan said.

Women are jealous by nature, and the more women there are in the inner house, the messier things get.

Those with multiple wives and concubines, how many have a peaceful inner house?

Not to mention the Emperor’s harem, that’s too much entanglement, but ordinary official and merchant families too have plenty of inner house drama.

It’s not uncommon for them to end up with fatalities.

Yang Zhenshan did not want the Yang family’s household to be unsettled, nor did he want his daughter to be in such an unpeaceful family.

As for disliking concubines.

That’s just deceiving people.

Men, huh.

Who doesn’t want multiple wives and concubines, to enjoy the blessings of everyone?

But this blessing is not easy to enjoy; while you enjoy it, you have to suffer the torture brought by all the messes that come with it.

Expecting a group of women to peacefully coexist with you is just a dream.

Yang Zhenshan also likes beautiful women, and without any trouble, he would definitely be willing to take on several more concubines.

Unfortunately, this is clearly impossible.

Concubines want to become the principal wife, illegitimate children want to become legitimate, and aunts want their children to have a better status, while the principal wife has to guard against the illegitimate fighting for power and profit.
