Clan Rise: Starting as a Grandfather

Chapter 221: Chapter 213 Pursuit

After exchanging dozens of moves, the surrounding crowd was left staring agape.

Liang Jinyan was completely dumbfounded, and the only thought in his mind was how impressive the Yang family’s sister was.

And not far away, under the eaves, the Marchioness and Madam Han were also gaping in surprise.

”Yunxue is actually this amazing!” Madam Han said somewhat incredulously.

Marchioness’s murky eyes were filled with a strange light, holding Yu Qingyi’s hand, her face became even more kind, ”I never imagined Yunxue would also be a martial arts prodigy! How wonderful, how wonderful, how wonderful~~”

Admiration was evident in her words.

Families of noble military generals naturally wouldn’t find the practice of martial arts crude or unworthy.

In literary families, some might find it inappropriate for women to practice martial arts, but in the Marquis Mansion, it’s considered a great advantage.

The Marchioness had also practiced martial arts, but with limited talent, her cultivation was not high.

Madam Han also came from a military family and had practiced martial arts when she was young, but she had given up cultivation due to certain events.

Now seeing Yang Yunxue demonstrate such a high aptitude for martial arts, they were both surprised and delighted.

At this moment in the training ground, Yang Yunxue, somewhat out of breath, retracted her Long Spear.

”Thank you, Marquis, for the guidance!”

It was, of course, impossible for her to defeat Liang Chu; in reality, Liang Chu was only feeding her moves so that she could fully exhibit her strength without reservation.

Yang Zhenshan also often fed her moves in daily practice, but compared to him, Liang Chu was much gentler.

Probably because Liang Chu didn’t know her well enough, he was inevitably more cautious when feeding moves.

As for who was stronger between Liang Chu and Yang Zhenshan, Yang Yunxue still couldn’t tell.

The gap was too great; she simply couldn’t grasp the extent of both their strengths.

”Ha ha~~ Very good!” Liang Chu tossed his Long Knife onto the nearby weapon rack, laughing loudly.

However, when he saw his grandson, his laughter abruptly stopped.

”Useless brat!”

Compared to Yang Yunxue, his grandson was really disappointing.

Liang Jinyan felt so wronged in his heart!

He wasn’t bad either!

A 16-year-old Martial Artist wasn’t a useless waste anywhere.

Not to mention he was accomplished both in literary and martial skills.

Watching Yang Yunxue, Liang Jinyan heaved a deep, melancholic sigh.

Was marrying this girl a good thing or a bad thing?

What if she hits me?

Can’t win!

Liang Jinyan’s mind was a mess.

He felt an urge to refuse this marriage arrangement, but he knew he couldn’t.

He couldn’t refuse before, and now it was even less likely.

Didn’t he see how Liang Chu looked at Yang Yunxue?

It was as if he was looking at a rare treasure, with a hint of greed.

For such a granddaughter-in-law, it would be strange if Liang Chu were to give up.

At noon, Yu Qingyi and the others stayed at the Duke Mansion for a meal, where the Marchioness and Madam Han were extremely warm towards Yang Yunxue, treating her even better than their own daughters, outshining Yu Qingyi, the stepmother.

And in the afternoon, Su Shanyu in the inn finally learned of the total annihilation of Su Bai’s forces.

”All dead! How is that possible?”

Su Shanyu’s complexion was dark and terrible, his eyes like poison-dipped daggers staring fixedly at the attendant in front of him.

”Second Young Master, they’re all really dead; their bodies were on the hillside by the roadside, and many bodies were eaten by wild animals by the time we got there,” the attendant said, trembling.

There were many wild animals on the Thousandfold Mountain, and although the forests in the eastern area were not dense, there were plenty of jackals, wolves, and such.

And in the chilly winter, once wild animals set their sights on food, they wouldn’t easily give up.

Therefore, although Yang Zhenshan had previously driven away those jackals, once he left, they had surrounded the scene again.

By the time Su Shanyu’s attendants got there, the bodies were unrecognizable as humans; if not for a few heads that were relatively intact, they wouldn’t even have been able to confirm that those were Su Bai and the others.

”Damn it!”

Su Shanyu slammed his hand down, shattering the Eight Immortals table in front of him, his expression ferocious.

He didn’t care about Su Bai’s life or death; it was the failure of the mission that mattered to him.

As long as Yang Yunxue lives, the union between the Yang family and the Marquis Mansion will surely continue, and they have already alerted their enemy; the Yang family will definitely be on guard.

”Second Young Master, what shall we do next?” the attendant asked softly.

Su Shanyu let out a heavy breath.

What else could they do?

Could they openly exterminate the Yang family?

They couldn’t manipulate the Changping Marquis Mansion’s side, and behind the Yang family was Duke Ning Mansion; if they killed Yang Yunxue in secret, they could deny it, but if things became public, they wouldn’t be able to do anything to the Yang family.

After a long pondering, he said, ”Let’s return to the Capital City first!”

”Go to An Yuan City and bring Su Shansi back to the Capital City with you!”

The Su Shansi he referred to was the one building roads outside An Yuan City.

Although he didn’t like this younger brother much, after all, they were family; he couldn’t just ignore him.

As for the rest, they would have to wait until they returned to the Capital City.

But while he wanted to return to the Capital City, Yang Zhenshan was not willing to let him leave Chongshan Town.

Inside the Yang family’s small courtyard, Ding Qiu stood in front of Yang Zhenshan, ”Master, it has been ascertained that Marquis Jingyuan’s Second Young Master has been staying at Guangju Pavilion.”

”Guangju Pavilion!” Yang Zhenshan stood under the eaves with his hands behind his back, looking up at the snowflakes fluttering under the gloomy sky.

”Keep an eye on them; if they leave the town, report to me immediately!”

The snow wouldn’t last long, likely to stop tonight.

If they wanted to leave Chongshan Town, they would probably leave the city by tomorrow.

Just as Yang Zhenshan had predicted, early the next morning, Su Shanyu took more than twenty followers and rode out of the city.

The snow from the previous day wasn’t light, and there was a good three inches of accumulation on the ground, but this didn’t hinder horse riding.

After Su Shanyu left the city, Yang Zhenshan also followed suit, alone with his horse.

He didn’t bring anyone with him, not even Ding Qiu.

Because bringing others would slow down Red Cloud’s speed.

Inside the General Mansion.

”Did he leave the city by himself?” Liang Chu leaned back in his chair and asked with a bit of helplessness.

”Yes, Master Yang left alone, without any personal followers!” A strategist spoke softly.

Although Liang Chu had instructed them not to keep an eye on Yang Zhenshan the day before, even without actively monitoring him, nothing in the city could truly escape their notice.

Especially something like leaving the city; they couldn’t ignore it even if they wanted to.

To prevent spies from the East Sea Hu Clan from infiltrating, Liang Chu had all but turned Chongshan Pass into an iron fortress over the past two years.

”My lord, could it be that Master Yang is thinking~~”

He didn’t finish his sentence, but the implication was clear.

Liang Chu too was unsure of Yang Zhenshan’s intentions.

Having one’s wife and daughter targeted for murder would not be easily forgotten by anyone.

But the problem was that Yu Qingyi and Yang Yunxue were unharmed, so the extent to which Yang Zhenshan would go was beyond Liang Chu’s estimation.

Would he kill because of it?

Or just seek to administer a lesson?

If it were a murder, this matter could blow up!

Then the Marquis Jingyuan Mansion would surely not let it go, and thus would forge a deadly feud with the Yang family.

Faced with the power of the Marquis Jingyuan Mansion, the Yang family was relatively weak.

Liang Chu pondered, then suddenly thought of Yang Yunxue’s sharp movements and agile figure and burst into laughter.

”Marquis Jingyuan Su Qian, heh heh~~”

”You go and make sure that for these two days, none of our men have seen Master Yang, understand?”

The strategist’s expression flickered, ”Your subordinate understands!”

”Good, go ahead!”

Liang Chu said.

...

Murder was not a big deal for Yang Zhenshan, but killing the son of Marquis Jingyuan required careful consideration.

To kill or not to kill, and whether it was possible to kill!

Rationally, Yang Zhenshan could find many reasons not to kill Su Shanyu.

After all, Su Shanyu was born of Marquis Jingyuan Mansion, which in turn was aligned with the Crown Prince.

If he killed him, it could bring disaster upon the Yang family.

But sometimes, rationality is hard to conquer emotions and feelings.

Su Shanyu had intended to kill Yu Qingyi and Yang Yunxue, and Yang Zhenshan didn’t dare to imagine the pain he would suffer if they had truly died.

Yu Qingyi was carrying his child in her womb.

He truly couldn’t bear to think about it.

Every time it crossed his mind, the rage within him erupted like a volcano, impossible to contain.

So he decided to send this bastard Su Shanyu to meet King Yan.

All because the fury in his heart required Su Shanyu’s life to be quelled.

Following Su Shanyu leaving the city, Yang Zhenshan didn’t move immediately but kept a distant follow behind them.

Until dusk, when Su Shanyu and his men settled down at an inn.

”Don’t wander around, wait here obediently for my return!”

On the desolate hillside, Yang Zhenshan caressed Red Cloud’s head gently.

Neigh~~

Red Cloud neighed softly in response, as if agreeing.

Yang Zhenshan smiled, taking out two bright red peaches and placing them into Red Cloud’s mouth.

Then, he took off his fur coat, revealing a sleek black outfit underneath.

With a flick of his wrists, two Short Spears appeared in his palms.

With another sweep, the Short Spears vanished without a trace, replaced by two short swords.

To kill Su Shanyu, he naturally couldn’t go in the open.

He needed to conceal his identity, so that even if someone later guessed he was the killer, as long as there was no concrete evidence, no one could convict him.

After some basic preparations, Yang Zhanshan headed in the direction of the inn.

Pan Mountain Inn was a typical establishment, located in a wilderness with neither village in front nor shop behind, consisting mainly of a large courtyard with over twenty rooms and a series of stables.

Inns like this were common in Chongshan Town, primarily to transmit military information; of course, they also provided food and lodging for passing officials.

There were more than twenty innkeepers at the inn, and they were usually quite vigilant, but no matter how strict their guard, it was nothing more than a display for Yang Zhenshan.

Yang Zhenshan of today was not the same as he was two years ago; his Qinggong had greatly improved under the guidance of Zhu Shanghe.

The night stretched on, the clouds had not fully dissipated, and the bright moon was obscured by clouds, leaving the entire Pan Mountain Inn with no light except for the dim candlelight.

Silent as a vulture, Yang Zhenshan effortlessly leaped over the yard’s wall.

His steps were exceedingly gentle, creating not a whisper of noise even when leaping.

His formidable frame seemed catlike in its agility at this moment.

Having vaulted over the yard wall, Yang Zhenshan stuck close to the base of the wall as he moved towards the central buildings of the inn.

Typically, the central buildings of such inns were the best, reserved for traveling officials to stay.

Although Su Shanyu was not an official, being from the Marquis Jingyuan Mansion, he was entitled to stay at the inn.
