Clan Rise: Starting as a Grandfather

Chapter 223: Chapter 215 A mere Su Shanyu, why should the Crown Prince bother to make a move?

In the afternoon, after bidding farewell to the Marchioness alone at the Marquis Mansion, Yang Zhenshan led everyone away from Chongshan Pass early the next morning.

It was after their departure that the news of Su Shanyu’s murder reached Chongshan Pass.

General Mansion’s study room.

Liang Chu heard the report from his staff with an indifferent expression.

He had anticipated Yang Zhenshan’s move, so he wasn’t surprised at all now.

”Marquis, now that Su Shanyu is dead, should we do something?” the staff member asked.

”Do what?” Liang Chu inquired.

The staff member thought for a moment, then said, ”Help investigate the murderer!”

”That’s the responsibility of the Inspection Department!” Liang Chu said.

”Uh, but since it involves Master Yang, we should lend a hand!” the staff member said in a lowered voice.

Liang Chu’s expression shifted slightly, and he chuckled, ”You’re right, we indeed should lend a hand. After all, this happened in our Chongshan Town, and it also involves Marquis Jingyuan Mansion!”

Help with the investigation?

Of course not!

He wasn’t about to help Marquis Jingyuan Mansion; he merely wanted to help Yang Zhenshan by checking for any oversights, preventing Yang from leaving any loose ends.

Liang Jinyan’s marriage to Yang Yunxue was basically settled, and the two families would soon be related by marriage. Although he didn’t want to offend Marquis Jingyuan Mansion or the Crown Prince, he couldn’t just stand by idly regarding the Yang family.

Moreover, he valued Yang Yunxue greatly—a young girl with a Refining Power Level of cultivation, she was bound to become a Martial Arts Master in the future.

He might even surpass him in cultivation, so how could he not take her seriously?

As for Yang Yunxue being a woman or a granddaughter-in-law, that was actually not important. Once she was part of the family, she would be one of the Liangs.

Even if Yang Zhenshan disagreed with this marriage, he would do everything possible to make Yang agree.

For any family, the existence of a Martial Arts Master is of vital importance.

Even if this Martial Arts Master is just for show at home, they represent a foundation, an ace up the sleeve.

”Let’s do this, you take someone and go take a look!” Liang Chu ordered.

The staff member complied and then respectfully took his leave.

On the other side, at the Jianning Guard Assistant General Mansion.

Zhou Lan first received a letter from Yang Zhenshan and then the news of Su Shanyu’s murder.

When she heard this news, she curled her lip, ”Su Shanyu, that bastard, should have died a long time ago!”

For a cruel and ruthless noble like Su Shanyu, Zhou Lan had never had any fondness.

In her heart, Su Shanyu was even worse than Lv Hua. Although Lv Hua was also annoying, at least Lv Hua did legitimate work, serving the old Emperor.

But what about Su Shanyu?

Everything he did was just for his own selfish interests.

”General, this won’t cause trouble for my father, will it?” Yang Mingzhi asked, standing beside Zhou Lan with some worry.

Yang Mingzhi was now the defensive officer of Jianning Guard, but on a day-to-day basis, he was helping Zhou Lan sort out miscellaneous affairs, essentially replacing Zhao Yuan as a sort of assistant.

Zhou Lan looked up at him and smiled, ”There will be trouble, but you don’t need to worry, Marquis Jingyuan can’t control Chongshan Town!”

”But behind Marquis Zhenyuan is the Crown Prince!” Yang Mingzhi said.

That was his greatest concern.

The Crown Prince was an unreachable existence for him and the Yang family.

How could Yang Mingzhi not worry about being enemies with such a powerful figure?

Zhou Lan laughed and shook her head, ”Even the Crown Prince can’t control Chongshan Town, since he hasn’t ascended the throne yet!”

”And the Crown Prince won’t bother with this kind of thing. Just for a Su Shanyu? That’s not worth the Crown Prince’s intervention.”

Yang Mingzhi didn’t understand the Crown Prince, but Zhou Lan did.

In her eyes, the Crown Prince was a schemer. Although he valued Marquis Jingyuan Mansion, he would not start a major conflict for its sake.

Compared to Marquis Jingyuan Mansion, the Crown Prince certainly valued the throne more.

Now Emperor Chengping was getting older and more sensitive, so the Crown Prince would not risk losing everything by offending Emperor Chengping just to help Marquis Jingyuan Mansion.

Hearing her say this, Yang Mingzhi felt his worries lessen considerably.

...

An Yuan City.

After returning, Yang Zhenshan temporarily put aside the matters of Marquis Jingyuan Mansion.

It was mid-October now, and if Chongshan Town was to go on an expedition next year, there was at most half a year’s time left.

Yang Zhenshan must make preparations for next year’s expedition.

So upon returning to An Yuan City, Yang Zhenshan immediately went to Jia City to meet with Wang Bin.

”Warhorses?”

In the study, Wang Bin rubbed his forehead with some annoyance when he heard Yang Zhenshan wanted two hundred warhorses.

Over the past few years, each department in Chongshan Town had obtained quite a few warhorses, all thanks to Lu Chongde and Liang Chu negotiating on their behalf. Yet, Chongshan Town was still short of warhorses.

Wang Bin had always wanted to expand his cavalry to five thousand, but even after spending two years, he was still short by a thousand.

”General, the one thing I am most skilled at is cavalry combat; almost all the battles at Yinghe Castle were cavalry engagements!”

”But now, I only have a little over a hundred cavalry under my command! Even including the inferior horses in the garrison office, we can’t make up two hundred.”

”Unless the General doesn’t want me to accompany the army on the expedition, otherwise you have to give me at least two hundred more warhorses!”

Yang Zhenshan’s words were reasonable and rational.

There were still many horses in An Yuan City, such as the Yang family’s horse farm and the Wu family’s horse farm as well, and military officers like Xie Yuan and Han Cheng also had some warhorses.

But these were private warhorses, not belonging to the garrison office.

No one could forcibly take their private property.

Nor could they rightfully expect them to conscript their personal property into the military.
