Clan Rise: Starting as a Grandfather

Chapter 224: Chapter 215 Just Su Shanyu, why does the Crown Prince need to make a move?_2

So before, although Zhengshan had already planned to let the Yang family’s stables sell a batch of warhorses to the garrison office, the money still had to come from the garrison office.

Now the garrison office indeed has money, but this does not prevent Zhengshan from coming to Wang Bin to complain about being poor.

But Wang Bin is not so easily fooled; he is well aware that the Yang family owns a stable.

He helplessly looked up at Zhengshan and said, ”I can give you at most one hundred and fifty horses, you have to arrange the rest yourself!”

Not allowing Zhengshan to join the campaign was out of the question.

Zhengshan’s strength and capabilities had been proven at Linguan Castle, and Wang Bin was counting on Zhengshan to charge into battle for him in next year’s war, how could he let Zhengshan wander leisurely in An Yuan City?

Zhengshan chuckled inwardly, he did not expect Wang Bin to be so generous, directly giving one hundred and fifty warhorses; he thought Wang Bin would at most give him one hundred!

However, on the surface, he still appeared a bit distressed and said, ”General, I can arrange it myself, but the issue is the Silver Coin!”

”Only three thousand taels!” Wang Bin really did not want to bicker with Zhengshan and could only reveal his bottom line.

Now, the main commanders at Chongshan Town almost all knew that they would be deployed next year, so everyone was busy collecting grain and fodder, gathering warhorses, manufacturing armaments, and preparing Silver Coin.

No one would think they have too many resources on their hands, so everyone was scrambling.

Applying to the General Mansion, applying to the Governor’s Office, calling up resources from subordinate departments, even spending Silver Coin to purchase from merchants.

For instance, the price of warhorses had already increased by thirty percent from last year, the key issue being that none were available for purchase.

To be able to allocate one hundred and fifty warhorses to Zhengshan, Wang Bin was already cutting deep into his own resources.

As for the Silver Coin, he could only spare this much; any more would affect his subordinate Rescue Camp.

”What about grain and fodder?” Zhengshan appeared a bit greedy.

Wang Bin looked at him speechlessly.

That look seemed to say ’enough is enough!’

Zhengshan smiled awkwardly, ”Let’s forget about the grain, our department still has some reserves!”

The garrison office indeed has its own garrison, and logically they should be self-sufficient in terms of provisions.

When Zhengshan first took office, the situation in An Yuan City’s garrison office was a bit unusual, so other departments could still allocate him some grain, but now it seemed excessive for him to request more.

Upon leaving the Assistant General Mansion, Zhengshan felt very pleased.

One hundred and fifty warhorses, three thousand taels of Silver Coin, this was quite a lot for the garrison office.

However, Zhengshan’s journey of feigning poverty was not over yet. With the Assistant General Mansion settled, wasn’t there still the Guardian Department?

But Tan Jingtai was much poorer than Wang Bin; Zhengshan both gave face and feigned poorness pitifully, but in the end, Tan Jingtai only allocated him five hundred dan of grain and fodder.

As for warhorses, not a single one; and not a penny of Silver Coin.

It was unavoidable, the Guardian Department mainly handled agricultural duties, and their reserves of warhorses and armaments were limited to begin with. That Tan Jingtai could allocate five hundred dan of grain to Zhengshan was only because he appreciated Zhengshan helping him secure the Commander position.

Zhengshan did not mind receiving only five hundred dan of grain, as a tiny leg of a mosquito is still flesh, moreover five hundred dan of grain could sustain the garrison for more than two months, it was not a small amount.

Returning to An Yuan City from Jia City, just as Zhengshan was entering the back yard, he saw Ming Hao escorting someone in with a few guards.

”Dad!”

Upon seeing Zhengshan, Ming Hao ran over.

”Who is that?” Zhengshan looked at the person being escorted by the guards, he felt this person looked somewhat familiar, but could not recall who he was at the moment.

Ming Hao looked back at the person and said somewhat helplessly, ”The coachman from the manor outside the city!”

Nowadays, the Yang family owned several farms outside the city, these farms mainly engaged in agriculture and also bred some livestock like chickens, ducks, pigs, and sheep.

Most of the people in charge of farming were tenants, but there were also quite a few servants of the Yang family.

In addition to growing crops, these farms were also responsible for preparing various ingredients for the Yang family’s consumption.

In summer, various fruits, vegetables, and melons are planted, and in the approach of winter, various dried vegetables and goods are laid out to dry, or some cured meat is made.

Every other day, a cartload of ingredients would be delivered to the Yang family from the manor outside the city.

A cartload of ingredients sounds like a lot, but do not forget that the Yang family is no longer a small household.

There are thirty guards alone, aside from so many other servants.

With so many people to feed, the consumption of ingredients naturally is not a small amount.

”Why did you capture him?” Yang Zhenshan asked with furrowed brows.

”It was he who leaked the news about mother and the younger sister going out!” Yang Minghao said.

Yang Zhenshan narrowed his eyes, showing a fierce gleam.

”What happened?”

Yang Mingcheng replied, ”Someone gave him a hundred taels of Silver, asking him to gather information about the mansion.”

To betray one’s master for Silver!

Never would one expect that such a thing could happen in the Yang family.

However, such occurrences are inevitable, given that the Yang family now owns several hundreds of servants, including those in the mansion, the farms, and the stables, totaling not less than a Hundred Households.

With so many servants, ensuring their absolute loyalty is nearly impossible.

It’s already quite difficult to ensure the loyalty of the servants within the mansion.

”Where is the person who gave him the money?” Yang Zhenshan asked coldly.

”Couldn’t find him, he has probably left An Yuan City!” replied Yang Minghao.

Yang Zhenshan wasn’t surprised by this; the deed was done, why would the person stay and wait for death?

He glanced at the coachman and said indifferently, ”Dispose of him!”

Such a servant no longer needed to be kept; perhaps this person didn’t know the specifics, but since he dared to betray his master’s information for Silver, keeping him might invite further trouble.

”What about his family?” Yang Minghao asked somewhat reluctantly.

”Sell them!”

Yet Yang Zhenshan showed no mercy.

The fate of servants is indeed pitiful; their life, death, and fortune completely unable to be controlled by themselves, entirely in the hands of their masters.

But no matter how pitiful, they must not betray their master.

Yang Zhenshan believes he has been extremely merciful to his servants; compared to other households, the servants of the Yang family are treated much better.

Not to brag, but at the very least, he can ensure they are well-clothed and fed.

Well-clothed and fed!

Many ordinary people can’t even achieve this, yet the Yang family can provide their servants with such, which can indeed be described as a grace.

Yet this person still betrayed the master’s information for Silver.

How could Yang Zhenshan keep him?

Yang Minghao also understood these points, but after all, he is young and sometimes not cruel enough.

Luckily he is obedient, doing whatever Yang Zhenshan says.

Soon, he led the coachman away.

Yang Zhenshan no longer bothered with the matter, disposing of a servant didn’t require his personal involvement.
