Clan Rise: Starting as a Grandfather

Chapter 215: Chapter 207 Feeling He is Weak

After returning to the backyard, Yang Zhenshan started discussing with Yu Qingyi.

”Do you think it’s appropriate for our family to become in-laws with the Changping Marquis Mansion?”

Sitting on the soft couch, Yu Qingyi set down her needlework and contemplated for a moment before speaking, ”I am not very knowledgeable about the court and the officialdom to analyze from these aspects. However, I have visited the Marquis Mansion once and met the Marchioness and the two young ladies!”

”The Marchioness manages the household well and raises her children properly, although her personality is somewhat strong, she is a trustworthy elder. The eldest daughter-in-law is astute and capable, and it is said that the Marquis Mansion has been under her stewardship for these years, which shows that she is a capable woman.”

”If Yunxue were just a junior in the Marquis Mansion, she probably wouldn’t have too difficult a time!”

In married life, the relationship with the mother-in-law is extremely important.

Many young brides encounter a lot of difficulties from their mothers-in-law after getting married.

Some even don’t regard their daughters-in-law as human but treat them like servants.

This kind of situation is common in the countryside and is also not uncommon in noble families.

Therefore, when considering marriage for a daughter, these aspects must also be carefully taken into account.

”Besides, the relationship between the eldest daughter-in-law and the second daughter-in-law seems quite good, which indicates that the Marquis Mansion’s backyard is quite harmonious.”

Yu Qingyi continued, ”The servants of the Marquis Mansion did not show much distress in their demeanor; they must not be treated harshly, and they are very earnest in their work, with nothing overstepped.”

The state of the servants can reflect the atmosphere within a family very well.

If the servants have a hard life, then that family is definitely not a kind one.

If the servants do not recognize their place and deceive their superiors, then it proves that the family does not have strict household management and is internally chaotic.

Servants who are mistreated too much may turn against their masters.

Servants who do not know their place may deceive their masters.

Hearing her say this, Yang Zhenshan nodded in agreement, ”From all aspects, the Changping Marquis Mansion doesn’t seem bad!”

”Mm, if there aren’t too many concerns on the official scene, I also think the Changping Marquis Mansion is a good choice!” said Yu Qingyi.

Yang Zhenshan pondered for a moment, then had Qingxia call Yang Yunxue over.

”Yunqiao is also not young anymore, and as her Master’s wife, you should also take charge of this matter!”

Speaking of Yang Yunxue’s marriage, Yang Zhenshan thought of Wang Yunqiao.

The two girls grew up together, and actually, Yang Zhenshan’s affection for them was almost the same, but because Yang Yunxue occupied the status of a daughter, she received more attention and care.

Yu Qingyi smiled and said, ”Actually, I have considered this matter before!”

”Oh? Do you have a suitable candidate?” asked Yang Zhenshan curiously.

”Mm!” Yu Qingyi adjusted a lock of hair on her forehead and said, ”Lin Zhan is going to take the county exam next year, and will surely participate in the imperial examinations later, so there’s no rush for his marriage.”

”Yun Qiao is a girl, and of age, so I’ve already thought about it!”

There are many children in the family, but the ones of age to be married off are only Yang Yunxue, Wang Yunqiao, and Lin Zhan, so she often considers the marriages for these three children when she has nothing else to do.

In matters of marriage, it’s the parents’ order and the matchmaker’s word.

Naturally, nothing needs to be said for Yang Yunxue, as her stepmother has to consider Yunxue’s marriage, which is part of her duties.

But for Wang Yunqiao and Lin Zhan who are both disciples of Yang Zhenshan, if they had their parents, this need not worry Yang Zhenshan and her, but both their parents have passed away, having been staying at the Yang family’s home.

A teacher for a day is a father for life, thus the marriage of these two also needs to be arranged by them.

”I originally thought that Lin Zhan and Yun Qiao might develop some feelings for each other, but sadly they seem to only have fraternal affection, so I’ve also put out that thought,” said Yu Qingyi with some regret.

Perhaps it was because they were too familiar with each other, or it was the camaraderie developed since childhood among the apprentices, but Yang Yunxue, Wang Yunqiao, and Lin Zhan did not develop romantic feelings and were more like brothers and sisters.

Yang Zhenshan had also considered this issue before and even pondered whether these three children would end up in some melodramatic love triangle, clearly, his worries were needless.

”Then who do you think is suitable for Yun Qiao?” Yang Zhenshan asked with some curiosity.

Usually, Wang Yunqiao and Yang Yunxue were together, as close as a single person, and rarely apart.

He really hadn’t noticed Wang Yunqiao having particular feelings for anyone.

”Song Hao!” Yu Qingyi said with a smile.

Yang Zhenshan stroked his beard, looking bewildered.

Song Hao is Song Dashan’s second son, apparently sixteen years old this year, and recently Song Dashan’s wife has been worrying over Song Hao’s marriage as well.

”Are the two of them very familiar?” Yang Zhenshan asked in surprise.

”I’m not clear about that, perhaps Xue’er knows more!” Yu Qingyi said with a smile.

”How did you come to notice it?” asked Yang Zhenshan, puzzled.

He had also met this Song Hao, after all, when he first came to An Yuan City, Song Dashan’s family had stayed in the front courtyard of the Yang family for a while.

Song Hao’s appearance, well, it’s similar to Song Dashan’s. Although young, he already has a rather burly build.

As for his character, it’s much like Song Dashan’s, honest and straightforward.

In terms of Martial Arts training, Song Hao has already become a Martial Artist. He drank plenty of Spiritual Spring Water when he was staying at the Yang family’s house, so he became a Martial Artist at a young age.

Of course, compared to Wang Yun Qiao, he’s far behind.

Wang Yun Qiao is hardly much inferior to Yang Yunxue, just turned fifteen this year and is already a Martial Artist. Her potential in the future won’t be much less than Yang Yunxue’s.

”It was just some time ago, when Song Hao came to find Lin Zhan, I unintentionally noticed Yunqiao’s expression was somewhat unusual!”

”However, this is just my guess, I’m not sure if it’s correct!” said Yu Qingyi.

Yang Zhenshan nodded; relationships between men and women here are very reserved.

Even if one has a fondness for someone, it cannot be too obvious, otherwise, they would be deemed indecent.

”Then take some time to ask Yun Qiao what she thinks, and if she is truly interested, let me know, and I’ll discuss it with Song Dashan!”

Song Dashan is now a Bazong of households, a family of officials. Merely by virtue of Wang Yunqiao’s background, aspiring to enter the Song family would seem somewhat mismatched.

However, Wang Yunqiao is his disciple, and if it really doesn’t work out, she could also be adopted as a foster daughter to elevate her status.

To speak frankly, it would be the Song family’s fortune to have a daughter-in-law like Wang Yunqiao.

Wang Yunqiao is virtuous and well-behaved, gentle and likable, and moreover, possesses a high talent in Martial Arts.

If it wasn’t for knowing the Song family inside out, Yang Zhenshan would feel that that young man Song Hao doesn’t deserve Wang Yunqiao.

In the midst of their conversation, Yang Yunxue and Wang Yunqiao came over together.

These two sisters really can’t be apart for even a moment; even taking a trip to the main residence, they have to come together.

But now that they’re here, it’s a good opportunity to ask them together.

”Dad!”

”Master!”

”Hmm!” Yang Zhenshan nodded his head, stroking his beard as he looked at the two young ladies.

People say that a girl changes eighteen times between childhood and adulthood, and this couldn’t be truer.

When he first arrived at the Yang family, Yang Yunxue was just a little girl, but now she has grown into an elegant and well-mannered young lady.

In terms of appearance, Yang Yunxue has gradually matured, becoming more and more like her mother in her original body — not remarkably stunning, but with bright eyes and white teeth, and an appearance that is very pleasing to the eye.

Her eyes curve when she smiles, her smile like a painting, particularly her infectious smile.

It’s that kind of smile that makes you feel happy just by seeing it.

By comparison, Wang Yunqiao seems even gentler, at first glance, you can tell she is a well-behaved girl.

”Dad, did you want to see me about something?” Yang Yunxue asked with a hint of anxiety.

Usually, aside from instructing their training, Yang Zhenshan rarely asked them to come to the main residence, so certainly there must be something up for him to suddenly call her over today.

And in her heart, she guessed that it might be related to her own marriage prospects.

Yang Zhenshan nodded and said, ”What do you think about Third Young Master Liang from the Changping Marquis Mansion?”

Upon hearing this, Yang Yunxue’s face suddenly flushed with a rosy hue, her hands nervously clasped together.

After all, she is still a young lady, and she feels somewhat shy when it comes to marriage.

”Speak your mind; if you don’t like him, Dad won’t agree, and I’ll find you a fiancé you like,” Yang Zhenshan said with a gentle smile.

As an old father, Yang Zhenshan felt that this matter should respect Yang Yunxue’s opinion, even if Yang Yunxue was only fifteen years old.

Of course, he would also review the prospects for Yang Yunxue, and if the person she liked was not good, he would let Yang Yunxue see the truth.

”Dad, I... I don’t know!” Yang Yunxue said somewhat confused.

Yang Zhenshan wanted her to choose for herself, but he overlooked one issue — that she really didn’t know how to choose.

A young miss who doesn’t leave her gates, a girl who has never experienced romance, what could you expect her to choose?

Yang Yunxue knew she was of age to be married, but she truly hadn’t thought about these matters.

Because her concept was still to follow her parents’ wishes.

She has always been waiting for Yang Zhenshan’s arrangements, not thinking of fighting for something herself.

Yang Zhenshan looked at his naïve daughter with a somewhat helpless expression.

”You have met Third Young Master Liang, what do you think of him?”

Yang Yunxue lowered her head to think, ”He seems very weak!”

”...”

Yang Zhenshan didn’t know what to say for a moment.

Okay, compared to Yang Yunxue, that Third Young Master Liang is indeed weak.

To be precise, among people of the same age, anyone would appear weak in front of Yang Yunxue.

”Do you dislike him?” Yang Zhenshan continued to ask.

Yang Yunxue thought for a while, recalling the appearance of Third Young Master Liang and said with some shyness: ”It’s not so much that I dislike him!”

Aside from being somewhat thin, Third Young Master Liang actually looks very handsome.

Having only met once, Yang Yunxue could only judge her like or dislike based on the other person’s appearance.

Not disliking!

Yang Zhenshan nodded, noting that he didn’t ask if she liked him, because that’s not a question to be asked.

After some thought, he then said, ”Then meet with him a few more times.”

Whether they’re suitable or whether they like each other, these things need more interaction to be sure.

Although meeting a few more times might not confirm one’s feelings, it’s certainly better than setting up a marriage after just one meeting.

And having dragged on for so many days, he should also give Liang Chu a response.

First, let the two children meet a few more times, and if neither of them have significant objections, then this matter can be almost settled.

As for the rest, alas, arranged marriages without much say, this is the extent to which Yang Zhenshan can do.

He certainly can’t let Yang Yunxue go out and find someone to fall in love with on her own.

Obviously, that is impossible.

The societal norms are such; if he really were to do so, it would instead harm Yang Yunxue.
