Clan Rise: Starting as a Grandfather

Chapter 236: Chapter 227 Cavalry Charge, Momentum Magnificent.

”Sir, they’re here!” Yang Mingzhen said with some impatience.

”What’s the rush?” Yang Zhenshan scolded in a cold voice.

Although the boy was clever, his temperament still needed a lot of tempering.

In fact, it was quite normal. When Yang Mingwu and Yang Chengze first joined the battle, their performance wasn’t any better.

It was only after several life and death struggles that they became calm and collected, facing all enemies indifferently.

Chastened by Yang Zhenshan’s scolding, Yang Mingzhen gave a sheepish smile.

He wasn’t scared; he was simply excited, which was coupled with urgency and a bit of panic at the prospect of facing the enemy.

Yang Zhenshan didn’t pay him any more attention but quietly observed the Northern barbarian cavalry opposite him.

This kind of sudden encounter was something Yang Zhenshan had anticipated early on.

They had already entered the territory of the East Sea Hu Clan, and could encounter members of the clan at any moment.

The situation before them wasn’t bad; at the very least, they weren’t caught completely off guard, nor were they ambushed.

They had already responded and prepared to meet the enemy in battle.

Meanwhile, Zha Yan was also looking at Yang Zhenshan’s side. He immediately noticed Yang Zhenshan, who was riding Red Cloud and wore a gold-plated armor decorated with mountain patterns.

It was because Yang Zhenshan’s attire was so conspicuous among the cavalry.

The garrison cavalry all wore black leather armor, whereas Yang Zhenshan wore gold-plated armor, the golden armor shimmering with a hazy glow under the bright sunshine.

The garrison cavalry all rode excellent warhorses, each one towering and substantial, but next to Red Cloud, these horses were three inches shorter and their builds couldn’t compare to Red Cloud’s robustness.

Seeing Yang Zhenshan like this, not a trace of fear or retreat showed in Zha Yan’s eyes; instead, they were filled with greed.

Gold Armor!

Was that armor made of gold?

His eyes were practically glued to Yang Zhenshan.

He had seen golden armor before; after all, while the gold-plated armor with mountain patterns was rare, it wasn’t uncommon in Chongshan Town.

However, Zha Yan had never touched golden armor before and believed it to be made out of real gold.

Thinking of the wealthy Da Rong, and coveting their salt, iron, silk, porcelain, gems, and jade, Zha Yan’s greed surged uncontrollably.

He looked down at the camp below, observing the carriages of food, supplies, and the iron armor worn by the soldiers, his face twisted with a ferocious gleam.

”Kill them all!”

At this moment, he did not entertain the possibility of defeat; the only thought in his mind was to take down the camp below and kill the cavalry.

In the East Sea Hu Clan, the power and prosperity of Da Rong were deeply ingrained in their minds, just as the decline and cowardice of Chongshan Town were equally entrenched; this was not contradictory.

Da Rong’s powerful image came from the prestige built up over three hundred years, while the impression of Chongshan Town’s decline was from their own witnessed experience over the past twenty years.

Despite the heavy losses the East Sea Hu Clan suffered in the Battle of Chongshan Pass three years ago, due to Liang Chu’s strategies, it still couldn’t change their impression of Chongshan Town.

Most of the leaders of the East Sea Hu Clan attributed the defeat in the battle at Chongshan Pass to Liang Chu’s cunning.

With Zha Yan’s command, the sound of thundering hooves kicked up dust, and over a thousand Northern barbarian cavalry charged towards the garrison camp like a surging tide.

Seeing this, Song Dashan at the forefront of the camp grinned and shouted, ”Brothers, let’s show these Hu Zei what we’re made of!”

If one were to ask who had the most confidence in the entire camp, Song Dashan undeniably deserved to be ranked first.

The reasons were simple: first, he had confidence in Yang Zhenshan. He had followed Yang Zhenshan for many years and fought side by side with him on numerous occasions, carrying absolute faith in Yang Zhenshan.

Second, he had confidence in his soldiers and generals. The soldiers from Yinghe Castle were already strong back then, but compared to the current garrison soldiers, those from Yinghe Castle paled significantly, a disparity of which he was well aware.

Therefore, he faced the assault from the Hu Clan with complete confidence.

In contrast, Yang Zhenshan atop the hill was not concerned with victory or defeat; he focused all his attention on the enemy’s movements.

Seeing the Northern barbarian cavalry rushing towards the camp, the corners of his mouth curled slightly.

Had the enemy come after them, the impending battle could have been troublesome.

After all, the enemy’s forces were three times their size, and if they clashed head-on, even if they could win, the casualties would be extremely heavy.

But the enemy had charged at the camp instead, which was different.

His camp was not so easily breached.

Whoosh-whoosh~~

Before the enemy drew close, hundreds of arrows rained down like a deluge from the sky.

However, the prepared soldiers did not suffer many casualties, especially Song Dashan’s iron-armored troops, who stood firm, unfazed by arrows hitting their armor.

The camp’s archers also returned fire but compared to the Northern barbarian cavalry, their shooting was much sparser. However, their kill count exceeded that of the cavalry.

Not because their archery was superior to that of the cavalry, but because the charging Northern barbarians lacked cover and most of them didn’t wear proper armor.

Most wore only thick leather clothing, with very few even wearing decent leather armor.

Dozens of Northern barbarians were unhorsed by arrows, but this did not stop the charge of the thousand-plus riders. Within a few breaths, they had reached the entrance of the camp.

The next moment.

The Northern barbarian cavalry collided fiercely with the two hundred iron-armored soldiers blocking the entrance.

”Get out of my way!”

Song Dashan roared furiously, his long halberd thrust upward, flipping the leading Northern barbarian off his horse.

Following that, clad in iron armor and wielding a long halberd, he stood immovable like a rock before the wave of Northern barbarian cavalry.

The iron-armored soldiers behind him were like a wall of iron.

Upon impact, men and horses were sent sprawling.

Spear light thrust forward, blood splattered.

The battle had just begun and already showcased its brutal intensity.

Song Dashan used to wield a sword, but after arriving in An Yuan City, he had practiced several spear techniques, which sometimes gave him a big advantage on the battlefield.

The heavy iron armor seemed weightless on Song Dashan as he swung his long spear, effortlessly defeating the Northern barbarian cavalry before him.

In the blink of an eye, he had already toppled more than a dozen Northern barbarian riders.

However, there were over a thousand Northern barbarian cavalry charging, and naturally, they wouldn’t all head straight for the camp entrance, instead encircling the camp.

If they couldn’t breach the entrance, they would look for other vulnerabilities to penetrate the camp.

But they had clearly underestimated the combat prowess of the garrison, thinking that these Da Rong soldiers would fall apart after one charge just like those they had encountered before. Instead, they met with fierce resistance.

Zha Yan did not charge at the forefront; he stood on horseback atop the rear hill, looking down at the entire battlefield.

Seeing that his warriors couldn’t break through the enemy lines instantly, a slight frown formed on his brows.

Glancing over the iron-armored infantry blocking the camp’s entrance and the overturned warriors, a clear light suddenly flashed through his greedy eyes.

Something seemed off!

The Da Rong army before his eyes felt different from those he had encountered in the past.

No sooner had this thought arisen that he heard the sound of orderly horse hooves.

He looked up to see cavalry on the opposite hilltop speeding up.

Pupils constricting sharply, Zha Yan’s expression changed drastically.

Three hundred cavalry didn’t seem like much, he had even overlooked them previously, thinking that the hundred or so warriors by his side were enough to handle the enemy cavalry.

But at this moment, seeing the charging cavalry, he suddenly felt a strong sense of oppression.

The orderly charge formation, with spears almost united as one.

It felt not like facing a charge of cavalry but rather a lofty mountain pressing down, bringing an unstoppable momentum.

Cavalry charge, with overwhelming force.

As the leader of the Tumo clan, Zha Yan was no stranger to cavalry charges.

But the cavalry before his eyes was completely different from his warriors.

It was like a motley crowd facing a regular army, no, not just any regular army.

He had seen the cavalry of Chongshan Town’s Camp, but none had such a despair-inducing aura.

Suddenly, Zha Yan froze entirely, even holding his breath.

Not just him, the warriors around him also held their breaths.

Over a hundred people gathered in silence; even their horses seemed to sense the fear.

Yang Zhenshan was unaware of Zha Yan’s reaction, nor did he have time to care, and besides, he didn’t recognize Zha Yan; his target was the Northern barbarian cavalry besieging the camp.

Red Cloud’s speed kept increasing, and the soldiers behind him also quickened.

This time, at Yang Zhenshan’s request, Red Cloud didn’t burst forth at full speed but maintained a pace that allowed the soldiers behind to keep up.

His gold-painted mountain-patterned armor gleamed hazily under the brilliant sunlight, and the snow-white spearhead of the Gold-plated Flying Fish Spear shone with even brighter light.

Yang Zhenshan narrowed his eyes slightly, leaned forward, his right hand holding the long spear.

The whistling wind flooded his ears, and a dull thunder rumbled within him.

As the enemy drew closer, Yang Zhenshan’s face revealed an excited smile.

Armed with a deadly weapon, the urge to kill arose spontaneously.

As a Martial Artist with a cultivation of Postnatal Seventh Layer, Yang Zhenshan had long craved battle.

In An Yuan City, as the garrison, even if he occasionally encountered trouble, he couldn’t fully engage in an exhilarating fight; only on the battlefield could he unleash his power without restraint.

”Charge with no retreat, fight to the death!”

Yang Zhenshan suddenly let out a thunderous roar.

”Fight to the death!”

A spirited shout rose, drowning out the continuous horse hooves and the noise of combat from the hills of the battlefield.

”Red Cloud!”

Yang Zhenshan gently patted Red Cloud’s back, and the horse immediately let out an excited neigh, its already fast galloping speed suddenly surged, pulling ahead of the soldiers behind.

Red Cloud too was clad in armor, with iron plates covering its face and chest. It looked somewhat cumbersome, but it provided some protection.

The weight of the armor, tens of pounds, barely hindered it, as it ran as swift as lightning.

In the blink of an eye, Yang Zhenshan and Red Cloud were the first to collide with the Northern barbarian cavalry.

The large Red Cloud, like a tank, knocked open the enemy horses in front.

Yang Zhenshan, wielding his long spear, swept away one Northern barbarian rider after another charging at him.

”Hahaha, kill!”

Yang Zhenshan laughed heartily, piercing into the chaotic battlefield like an arrow released from a bow.

If the previous Northern barbarian charge was like a tidal wave, then the garrison’s cavalry charge now was like tumbling boulders.

Like a monolithic boulder, determined to crush everything in front.
