Divine Level Witch Doctor

”That’s strange. Weren’t all those villagers just gathered outside the courtyard watching the commotion? How did they all disappear in the blink of an eye?” The doctors and nurses exchanged bewildered glances.

They had been thinking how convenient it would be to treat everyone in one place. They never expected the villagers to inexplicably vanish, and without anyone noticing when they left. Everyone had been too busy anxiously awaiting the test results to pay attention to anything else.

Although Hu Bin was also surprised, he didn’t dwell on it. He began giving orders in a systematic manner. ”If they’re gone, they’re gone. It doesn’t matter. We’ll just go door-to-door to treat them later. Old Huang, take a few people back to the camp. I remember we brought a batch of spiramycin, didn’t we? Get it and distribute it to the patients. Do you have the number for the town hospital? Call them and ask if they have Astragalus Root, sweet wormwood, licorice root, and Betel Nut. If they do, have them grind it into a powder and send a batch up here immediately!”

”Alright, I’m on it.”

The man called Old Huang was Huang Quan, the director of the Neurology Department at Chuncheng County People’s Hospital. The initial suspicion was that the Xiaqiao Village residents had meningitis or epilepsy—both of which fall under neurology—which was why he had been brought in. He wasn’t just highly skilled in his field; he was also well-acquainted with staff at all the hospitals in Chuncheng County. He was the perfect person to ask for help at critical moments, like this one.

Huang Quan left Luo Jun’s house with a few doctors and nurses. He hurried toward their temporary base to get the medicine, making a call to the town hospital as he went.

Hu Bin then sent out another group to inform the villagers that the cause of the strange illness had been confirmed. A targeted treatment would be available soon, so they should rest easy and not believe any of the nonsense about hauntings or possessions.

After making all the arrangements, Hu Bin came over to Zhao Yuan to thank him once again.

A stream of Wish Power flowed out of Hu Bin and into Zhao Yuan’s body. In addition, Zhao Yuan collected a fair amount of Wish Power from the other medical staff as well. This Wish Power, born of gratitude and admiration, was exceptionally pure, though not large in quantity.

After a bit of small talk with Hu Bin, Zhao Yuan prepared to take his leave.

’Correcting the misdiagnosis is enough. I can leave the rest of the treatment to Hu Bin and his team.’

’Treating toxoplasmosis isn’t hard; the hard part is diagnosing it. I’ve already handled the most difficult and crucial step. There’s no need to see it all the way through. After all, doing too much is like stealing too much credit, and that just breeds jealousy.’

”Where do you live? I can have someone drive you home,” Hu Bin offered eagerly.

”No need. I rode my motorcycle here, so I can get back on my own.” Zhao Yuan waved his hand, politely declining. He added with a joke, ”On my motorcycle, I can get home in half an hour, tops. A car would have to take the long way around, which could take an hour or two.”

Since Zhao Yuan put it that way, Hu Bin didn’t insist. After they exchanged phone numbers, he added enthusiastically that Zhao Yuan had to contact him next time he was in the city, so he could treat him to a meal to express his gratitude.

Zhao Yuan naturally wouldn’t refuse such a kind offer and agreed with a smile. Then he turned to Luo Jun and said, ”Old classmate, focus on getting better. I’m sure your condition will improve significantly in a few days. Oh, right, don’t forget to tell your parents and your wife the good news. It’ll put their minds at ease.”

Luo Jun grabbed Zhao Yuan’s hand, his voice thick with emotion. ”I will, Zhao Yuan. Thank you, thank you so much! You saved the lives of half the people in Xiaqiao Village! Once these Three Corpses Insects in our heads are gone and we’re feeling better, we’ll all come to thank you properly!”

Zhao Yuan waved his hand, humbly refusing to take the credit. ”We’re all from the same area, no need to be so formal. Besides, I’m not the one who saved you; it’s these doctors and nurses. They traveled all the way out to this mountain valley, enduring the cold and exhaustion, all to cure everyone. That’s not easy. I just gave them a little hint. Even without it, I’m sure they would have figured out it was the Three Corpses Insect eventually. It just might have taken a little longer.”

These words warmed the hearts of the medical staff present, and their impression of Zhao Yuan improved even more.

Hu Bin, in particular, was extremely fond of Zhao Yuan. He whispered to an old friend beside him, ”He’s not arrogant or impatient, but humble and polite... This kid has the bearing of a wise physician from ancient times!”

His old friend was Gao Zhixiang, the vice president of City Third Hospital and a renowned physician in his own right.

Gao Zhixiang nodded repeatedly in agreement, then immediately said, ”Zhao Yuan, are you interested in working at our City Third Hospital? We recently launched a program to cultivate a group of young doctors to become the future backbone of the hospital. If you’re willing to come, not only will we give you a tenured position, but we’ll also include you in this program as a key trainee! This would be a huge boost for your future development and career!”

At these words, the eyes of many people nearby lit up.

Moon City Third Hospital was a Class-A Tertiary hospital! Its salary and benefits were among the best of all the major hospitals in the city, and on top of that, they were offering a tenured position!

You had to understand, these tenured positions were extremely limited at every hospital. Most doctors and nurses were just contract workers, not ”official employees” with a permanent post.

A tenured position was equivalent to having cadre status—a genuine ”iron rice bowl.” The various benefits and welfare packages were far superior to those of contract workers. Moreover, as long as you didn’t make a major mistake, the hospital couldn’t fire you. Terminating the employment relationship required the employee’s consent and approval from the Health Bureau!

For Gao Zhixiang to promise Zhao Yuan a tenured post *and* make him a priority for cultivation—the offer was simply incredible! Many of the young doctors and nurses present were green with envy, wishing they could accept the offer for him.

Zhao Yuan was also taken aback, not expecting a job offer out of the blue. He let out a slightly baffled laugh and was about to speak when Hu Bin beat him to it, roaring at Gao Zhixiang with a furious expression, ”Old Gao, you’re despicable!”

Then his face instantly switched to a wide smile as he turned to Zhao Yuan. ”Zhao Yuan, you should come to our City First Hospital! Just listen to the name—you can tell we’re better than them! Whatever they can give you, we can give you too! Plus, if you join us, we can also take care of your housing!”

”Tch, you make it sound so grand. ’Take care of housing’?” Gao Zhixiang sneered dismissively. ”You mean you’ll give him a room in the singles’ dormitory? You have the nerve to present that as a tempting offer?” He then said, ”Zhao Yuan, our hospital is currently building an employee housing complex. If you come work for us, we’ll give you a purchasing slot. You’ll be able to buy your own apartment in the most bustling part of the city center for less than half the market price!”
