Divine Level Witch Doctor

Hu Bin took out his phone, walked into the courtyard, and called his colleague at the city hospital.

A few critically ill patients had been transferred to the city hospital for treatment. After Hu Bin told his colleagues there about Zhao Yuan’s theory, he urged them to run the relevant tests immediately.

While they waited for the test results, Luo Jun’s treatment was temporarily halted. Not only that, but Hu Bin also sent out everyone from his medical team—some to contact the other medical teams, and others to stop the treatment of the other villagers.

Soon, the treatments for all the villagers of Xiaoqiao Village were suspended. Medical personnel who received the news all rushed to Luo Jun’s house to await the test results.

Although Zhao Yuan was certain the villagers of Xiaqiao Village were suffering from Three Corpses Insect disease, he didn’t rush to begin treatment. He knew that until the test results came back, the doctors and nurses present would still be skeptical of him. If he tried to start treatment now, he would most likely be obstructed. It was better to wait, since it wouldn’t be long anyway.

So he sat down next to Luo Jun and chatted with his childhood friend.

Zhao Yuan was perfectly calm, but Luo Jun was tense. Though his vision had been weakened by the Three Corpses Insect, he was still aware that his house was now full of people. He couldn’t help but ask, ”Zhao Yuan, this... this won’t cause any trouble for you, will it?”

Even though he was ill, Luo Jun was still worried about his friend, afraid that if the test results didn’t match Zhao Yuan’s diagnosis, Zhao Yuan would face a torrent of criticism.

Zhao Yuan smiled and patted the back of Luo Jun’s hand. ”Don’t worry,” he said. ”I’m very confident in my diagnosis. Once a new treatment plan is drawn up, you all will recover quickly.”

’This is no joke. The diagnosis of Three Corpses Insect wasn’t just the result of combining four diagnostic methods—my Qi Observation Technique, Pulse Diagnosis Technique, Truth Recognition Technique, and my own inquiry skills. I even had Zeng Rui enter Luo Jun’s head for a ’field inspection.’ Setting aside everything else, just having Zeng Rui go inside his brain was more direct than any test. How could it possibly be wrong?’

’Even if the results don’t show toxoplasmosis, it’s definitely not my fault. It would mean there was something wrong with the testing equipment or the procedure!’

While Zhao Yuan was chatting with Luo Jun, the doctors and nurses gathered in the house and courtyard, along with the Xiaqiao Village villagers who had come for news, were all murmuring amongst themselves.

The doctors and nurses were curious about Zhao Yuan’s identity:

”Who is that kid?”

”He said the Xiaqiao Village villagers have toxoplasmosis? Is that even possible?”

”Analyzing the symptoms, it’s a possibility. But we have to wait for the final results!”

”Where did this kid even come from? He looks like he’s only about twenty. Could he be the apprentice of some great medical master?”

Many of the villagers from Xiaoqiao Village recognized Zhao Yuan and were surprised to see him here, influencing the medical team’s treatment plan.

”Isn’t that Zhao Yuan from Yunhua Village?”

”Yeah, that’s him. The kid from the nearby villages who got into the best university. I heard he’s studying at a really famous and prestigious medical university!”

”But he just started medical school, right? Can he really diagnose and treat illnesses? And he even got these experts from the city to believe him?”

”If he can really cure our strange illness, I’ll go to his house and kowtow to him! I’ll even set up a longevity tablet for him in my home and pray to it every day!”

An old woman snorted coldly. ”Chen Er, stop dreaming. We’re not sick, we’re cursed! I’ve already had my relatives go and invite the famous Mage Zhang from Shangxian Village to come exorcise the evil from our village. By my calculations, he should arrive today. For something like a curse, doctors are useless. You need a Mage. After the Mage performs the ritual, every household will have to chip in. Otherwise, when everyone else’s curse is lifted and your family is still suffering, don’t say I didn’t warn you.”

As soon as the old woman finished speaking, a crowd of villagers surrounded her, all clamoring for her to make sure Mage Zhang visited their homes to perform an exorcism.

Mountain folk were naturally superstitious, and this illness was so bizarre—with so many doctors and nurses treating them for days with no effect—that it only strengthened their belief that they were cursed. They felt ordinary medical treatments were useless; only a Mage’s ritual could save them.

The villagers’ discussion was relatively quiet, so the doctors and nurses had no idea they were being looked down upon. They were even more oblivious to the fact that these villagers would rather trust a Mage—a charlatan—than believe in them.

After all, whose fault was it that their treatments hadn’t worked?

After waiting for a while, Shi Yong quietly slipped out of the house and stood in the courtyard.

He couldn’t stand the sight of Zhao Yuan’s face, and what’s more, Hu Bin had forbidden him from speaking inside, which left him feeling utterly suffocated.

Once outside, Shi Yong joined the gossiping crowd, though he, as usual, had nothing good to say. ”How could a snot-nosed brat who hasn’t even grown all his hair out make a correct diagnosis? Wouldn’t that mean all of us are worse than him, that we’re all trash? The way I see it, he’s just spouting nonsense! I don’t know what’s gotten into Teacher Hu and the others to make them believe him. Hmph, just you watch. When those test results come back, they’re going to slap him silly!”

He was trying to stir up the crowd, but unfortunately for him, no one was a fool. They could hear the ulterior motive in his words.

Someone spoke up immediately. ”Shi Yong, what’s the deal? Do you have a grudge against this kid or something? It feels like everything you’re saying is aimed at him.”

Shi Yong, of course, refused to admit it. He stuck his neck out and retorted, ”I’m not targeting him! I’m just speaking the truth!”

Then another person, the kind who loves to stir the pot, asked, ”And what will you say if the test results match the kid’s diagnosis?”

”I... I...” Shi Yong was suddenly at a loss for words. Seeing his expression, the crowd burst into laughter. The taunting made Shi Yong’s face flush red, and he blurted out, ”If that kid’s diagnosis is correct, I’ll fucking eat the chicken shit off the ground!”

The moment he said it, the crowd erupted in cheers.

”Holy shit, Shi Yong, you’ve got balls!”

”What a man!”

”Shi Yong, we’re holding you to that! If his diagnosis is right, you’d better not back out!”

Shi Yong had spoken on impulse, and now that he had calmed down, he instantly regretted it. But the words were already out; he couldn’t back down so quickly. He could only bluff his way through it, muttering, ”His diagnosis, correct? You’ve got to be kidding! Just you wait and see him get humiliated!”

Just as the words left his mouth, a phone began to ring.

All eyes turned to Hu Bin.

He picked up his phone, glanced at the caller ID, and announced, ”The test results are in!”

Everyone’s hearts leaped into their throats.
