Divine Level Witch Doctor

Zhao Yuan had asked the right person. The old village chief knew a lot about the situation in Xiaqiao Village.

He sighed and began to explain. ”It started ten days ago. The first victim was a child from the village. He was playing with his friends when he suddenly collapsed, convulsing and foaming at the mouth. They sent him to the town’s health clinic, where they said it was epilepsy. While he was being treated, his parents also fell ill, one after the other. One of them had symptoms similar to the child’s, but the other went into a violent frenzy, attacking people and destroying property. I heard that person showed incredible strength at the time—two or three people couldn’t hold him down. In the end, it took a team of doctors and the police, who rushed over after being notified, to get him under control.”

”It was because of that incident that everyone started to suspect the family was possessed. After that, people in Xiaqiao Village started getting sick one by one. In just ten days, half the village was afflicted. So the rumors about hauntings and possessions spread like wildfire!”

”I see.” Zhao Yuan nodded. He then asked the old village chief for more specific details about the villagers’ symptoms when they fell ill, but unfortunately, the chief wasn’t very clear on that either.

After a moment’s thought, Zhao Yuan asked, ”With something this major happening in Xiaqiao Village, didn’t the town authorities get involved?”

”They got involved, but it was no use,” the old village chief replied. ”As soon as the trouble started in Xiaqiao Village, the town reported it to the county. The county hospital and the county CDC sent over a lot of doctors. After examining the patients, some said it was epilepsy, others said it was meningitis. I’m not sure what the final diagnosis was. Aside from transferring a few critically ill patients to the county and city hospitals, they also left a dedicated medical team in Xiaqiao Village to treat the sick villagers. But unfortunately, several days have passed, and it hasn’t had much effect. Those who are going to get sick still get sick.”

This conversation with the old village chief gave Zhao Yuan a much better grasp of the situation.

Just then, Brother Quan rode back on an old motorcycle and called out, ”Brother Yuan, I brought the bike for you.”

”Thanks.” Zhao Yuan took the motorcycle, and after hopping on, he said, ”Old Village Chief, I’m going to go take a look. Please, don’t tell my parents about this!”

The old village chief waved his hand. ”Don’t worry, I’ll keep your secret.” In his heart, he was actually hoping that Zhao Yuan could help the people of Xiaqiao Village escape their suffering, though he felt the chances of that were not very high…

The mountain roads were narrow and riddled with potholes, making them difficult for cars, but a motorcycle was quite convenient.

Riding this old, dilapidated motorcycle that seemed to rattle from every part, Zhao Yuan arrived at Xiaqiao Village after traversing the mountain roads for more than half an hour.

He parked the bike at the village entrance, activated his Qi Observation Technique, and carefully surveyed the small, eerily quiet mountain village.

After a thorough scan, he didn’t see any unusual Evil Qi in the mountain village.

’Strange. Maybe it’s not a possession? Or maybe it only comes out at night?’ Zhao Yuan muttered to himself as he started the motorcycle again and rode into the village, carefully observing his surroundings as he went.

He had visited Xiaqiao Village before to have fun; some of his old elementary and middle school classmates lived here. He still remembered how lively the village was back then. Every household’s courtyard gate was wide open, and people were either gathered in their yards chatting and playing or working in the fields. But today, as he entered the village, he didn’t see a single person along the way, nor did he hear a single dog bark. Every house was shut tight, as if it were a deserted, dead land.

Zhao Yuan parked the motorcycle outside a family’s courtyard gate and shouted, ”Luo Jun, Luo Jun, are you home?”

Luo Jun had been his classmate in the town’s elementary school. After graduating from middle school, he had returned home to farm and had gotten married and had a child early. Of course, legally speaking, he wasn’t old enough to marry, but in the mountain villages, they didn’t care about such things. A wedding banquet was all it took to be considered married. As for the marriage certificate, they would just get it later when they came of age.

Zhao Yuan called out several times before there was finally a stir inside the house. A gaunt young man walked out, squinting and straining to peer out through the wicker fence as he asked, ”Who’s looking for me?”

This person was indeed Luo Jun.

But when Zhao Yuan saw him, he was startled.

He remembered gathering with Luo Jun and a few other elementary school classmates before he left for West Hua Medical University. Back then, Luo Jun had been thin, but not like this—he looked like a walking skeleton, nothing but skin and bones! And Luo Jun had always had good eyesight. How had he become practically blind now?

This was too strange!

And using his Truth Recognition Technique, Zhao Yuan also discovered a sign of his vital Qi decaying in Luo Jun’s voice!

This was extremely dangerous! Once one’s vital Qi was completely depleted, their life would also come to an end!

’Could he be possessed too?’

Zhao Yuan raised an eyebrow and called back loudly, ”It’s me, Zhao Yuan.” At the same time, he activated his Qi Observation Technique to study Luo Jun.

One look revealed a mass of pathogenic Evil Qi churning in Luo Jun’s head! The strangest part was that this Evil Qi seemed to be alive!

’Pathogenic Evil Qi that’s alive? Could the events in Xiaqiao Village really be the work of a ghostly charm?’

Zhao Yuan’s doubts grew.

Just at that moment, a figure suddenly appeared at Zhao Yuan’s side. He turned to look and saw it was the female Ghost connected to him by Chaining—the Medical Family predecessor, Zeng Rui.

Zhao Yuan was surprised. ’How did Zeng Rui get out of the Ghost Residence without my permission?’ he wondered. But he quickly remembered the agreement he had made with Zeng Rui—when he was treating a patient, Zeng Rui had the right to emerge from the Ghost Residence on her own.

This led Zhao Yuan to a new theory: ’Could it be that the people of Xiaqiao Village are sick, not possessed?’

He lowered his voice and asked Zeng Rui in the Ghost Language, ”Have you figured out what illness Luo Jun has?”

”Not yet.” Zeng Rui shook her head and replied, ”But I can feel that this person—no, to be precise, many people in this village are afflicted with a disease. They are suffering, they are in torment, and they urgently need help. That’s why I came out of the Ghost Residence.”

Although Zeng Rui hadn’t yet figured out what illness these people had, her words had already shown Zhao Yuan a clear path forward.

The people of Xiaqiao Village were truly sick, not possessed!

Just then, Luo Jun fumbled his way over to open the gate, saying with a mixture of pleasant surprise and disbelief, ”Zhao Yuan? What are you doing here?”

Ever since the news about the ’possessions’ in Xiaqiao Village had spread, the people from the surrounding ten miles and eight villages treated them like tigers, not daring to take a single step into Xiaqiao Village. Therefore, Luo Jun was both touched and grateful that Zhao Yuan had come to visit him today.

”What’s wrong with your eyes?” Zhao Yuan asked. He noticed that not only was Luo Jun’s vision impaired, but his eyes were also bloodshot, and his eyeballs were trembling nonstop.

No wonder the people of Xiaqiao Village were suspected of being possessed. Even when they weren’t having an episode, their appearance was still this bizarre.
