Divine Level Witch Doctor

Luo Jun sighed and replied, ”Don’t even ask. Ever since I went crazy for no reason a few days ago, my eyes have been acting up. My vision is getting blurrier and blurrier, and I often feel a throbbing, stinging pain.”

It could drive a person mad, affect their vision, and it was contagious to some degree...

Those few sentences, combined with the information he had gathered earlier, sent Zhao Yuan into deep thought. He frowned, pondering just what kind of illness was plaguing Xiaqiao Village.

”Hey, let’s not just stand here talking at the door. Come on, let’s go inside and sit down,” Luo Jun invited warmly, but quickly changed his mind. ”Actually, never mind. Let’s just talk out here. I’m afraid the house is bad luck. If you caught some kind of filth from me, I’d feel terrible.”

It seemed that it wasn’t just people from ten miles and eight villages who suspected Xiaoqiao Village was haunted and its people Possessed; even the villagers themselves believed it.

But Zhao Yuan wasn’t afraid of any of that.

Whether it was a disease or an Evil Ghost, he was fearless!

He grabbed Luo Jun’s hand and started walking into the house. ”I’m not afraid of any filth,” he said as they walked. ”Oh, right, where’s your family? Why are you here alone? Where are your parents and your sister-in-law?”

Luo Jun answered, ”After the sickness broke out in the village, my wife took our kid back to her parents’ house. My folks went to stay with relatives in town. I was going to go with them, but unfortunately, I had one of the fits and became one of the Possessed, so I stayed behind.”

He said it calmly, but Zhao Yuan could hear the heartbreak, despair, and other pessimistic emotions in his words.

Zhao Yuan patted Luo Jun on the shoulder and comforted him, ”Don’t worry. There’s no need to be so pessimistic. Your illness can definitely be cured!”

Luo Jun turned away, wiped a tear from his eye, then turned back and forced a smile. ”Thanks for the comforting words. And thank you for coming to see me.”

Zhao Yuan said, ”What’s there to thank me for? We’re friends. You’re sick, so of course I’d come see you. Sit still, I’m going to give you a check-up.”

”A check-up? What kind of check-up?” Luo Jun asked, confused.

Zhao Yuan replied, ”You know I’m a medical student. I want to see if I can find the cause of your illness.”

Luo Jun gave a bitter smile. ”Zhao Yuan, it’s not that I don’t believe you, but so many doctors have come from the county and the city. Some said we have meningitis, others said it’s epilepsy. They gave us a lot of medicine to take, but none of it had any effect. You’re just a medical student who’s still in school. What are you going to be able to see?”

Despite being looked down on, Zhao Yuan didn’t get angry. He simply grabbed Luo Jun’s hand and began to take his pulse.

Luo Jun hesitated for a moment but didn’t resist, letting him do as he pleased.

With the help of the Body Pearl, Zhao Yuan’s fingers were extremely sensitive. He soon discovered that Luo Jun’s pulse was faint yet wiry. Connecting this to the information he’d previously collected, a bold guess formed in Zhao Yuan’s mind.

As he continued the examination, he lowered his voice and used Ghost Language to ask Zeng Rui, ”Is there any way for you to get inside his head and take a look?”

Zeng Rui asked, ”You suspect there’s a problem inside his head?”

Zhao Yuan nodded and answered, ”I suspect there’s a parasite in his head, but I can’t be completely sure yet!”

”Alright, I’ll go in and see,” Zeng Rui agreed. Her Spirit Body flickered and transformed into a black mist, invisible to the naked eye, that entered Luo Jun’s head through the space between his eyebrows.

Just then, the sound of footsteps echoed in the Luo Family’s courtyard, accompanied by several voices.

”Huh? Why is the gate to the Luo Family’s courtyard open?”

”Luo Jun, it’s time for your IV drip and medicine.”

Zhao Yuan turned his head to look outside and saw several doctors and nurses in white coats, masks, and gloves walking into the Luo Family courtyard. They were carrying medical kits. ’They must be the medical workers the old village chief mentioned, the ones who stayed in Xiaoqiao Village to treat the villagers,’ he thought.

At the same time, the group also spotted Zhao Yuan and were all taken aback.

”Hey, who are you?” a gray-haired doctor demanded. He was the leader of this medical team, Hu Bin, a brain specialist sent from Moon City Hospital.

Before Zhao Yuan could speak, Luo Jun explained for him, ”He’s my classmate, here to visit me.”

Hu Bin said, ”Oh,” and muttered, ”Young, but you’ve got some nerve.” He didn’t ask any more questions. However, a young nurse on the medical team felt that Zhao Yuan looked familiar, though she couldn’t remember where she had seen him before.

This was perfectly normal. In today’s age of information overload, even if Zhao Yuan had been on the news once and had a few videos online, it was no guarantee of recognition. Even actors who appeared on TV every day weren’t known by everyone. The fact that someone found his face vaguely familiar was already quite something.

The young nurse glanced at Zhao Yuan a few more times before giving up and getting busy with her colleagues.

Someone took medicine from a medical kit and handed it to Luo Jun. ”Here, take today’s dose.” Others began preparing a solution, getting ready to give Luo Jun an IV treatment. Hu Bin, meanwhile, led a few doctors to Luo Jun’s side to ask about his condition that day.

”No improvement. In fact, I feel like it’s getting worse,” Luo Jun replied.

Hu Bin’s brow furrowed, and the other doctors also looked worried.

”It shouldn’t be like this.”

”Exactly! There’s nothing wrong with our treatment plan. Why isn’t it having any effect? Why is he getting worse?”

”Could it not be meningitis, but some other disease? But when we treated it as epilepsy before, we didn’t get any results either.”

The doctors murmured among themselves, all of them at a bit of a loss.

Finally, Hu Bin made a decision. ”Alright, for today, we’ll continue with the previous treatment plan. Later, when we get back to our quarters, we’ll have a video conference with the city hospital to discuss how to modify the subsequent treatment plan.”

”I guess that’s all we can do,” the other doctors nodded, their faces full of resignation.

Just as the nurse was about to insert the IV needle into Luo Jun, Zeng Rui emerged from his brain and told Zhao Yuan what she had seen.

’It’s just as I thought!’ Zhao Yuan sighed to himself. He quickly spoke up to stop them. ”Wait, don’t give him that stuff. It won’t have much effect. That’s because what he has isn’t meningitis or epilepsy—it’s a parasitic disease!”

”A parasitic disease?” The group of doctors and nurses were all stunned.

”That’s right, a parasite!” Zhao Yuan nodded firmly and said in a grave voice, ”This parasite is called the Three Corpses Insect!”

”The Three Corpses Insect?” The crowd exchanged glances. Most of them had never heard the name before.

However, one young doctor who enjoyed reading novels had heard the name. He frowned and said, ”The Three Corpses Insect? Isn’t that something from a fantasy novel? Are you trying to say the people of Xiaqiao Village are Possessed and have run into Ghosts? Great, another one spreading superstitious nonsense.”
