I Married the President

Chapter 287: Chapter 287: Royally Screwed

「Dragon Spring Mountain, the Main Peak of Mount Garlan.」

Halfway up the mountain, the team from Quincy Manor had set up camp. Tents were in short supply, so the rescue team members rested on the damp grass, leaving the few tents available for the leaders in charge.

However, those few tents had now been converted into a temporary medical station, housing all the injured and sick. Only one tent was left to serve as the command center.

Inside the command center, Adrian Quincy lay back on a cot, his face shielded by a taro leaf. His clothes were caked with dried mud, but his hands, peeking out from his cuffs, had been washed spotless.

After three days and three nights without sleep, his body had exceeded its limits. He had only lain down for a short rest now that the disaster situation had stabilized.

Nancy Lockwood walked in from outside with a military blanket, gently draping it over her master. She glanced at the face hidden by the taro leaf, a relieved smile gracing her lips.

’Young Master Quincy is finally sleeping. If he doesn’t rest, his body will give out sooner or later.’

After covering him with the blanket, Nancy Lockwood tiptoed out.

Aiden Howkins happened to be walking over from the opposite direction and was about to call out when Nancy Lockwood quickly put a finger to her lips, whispering, ”Don’t shout. Young Master Quincy is asleep.”

Aiden Howkins nodded in understanding and said in a low voice, ”Hayden Shaw is bringing two hundred men over. They should be here in about ten minutes.”

”That kid works fast. But in just ten minutes, Young Master Quincy will be woken up again. Sigh...”

Aiden Howkins sighed as well. Neither of them could bear to see their master work himself to the bone, but no one could talk him out of it.

Ten minutes passed in the blink of an eye, and Aiden Howkins went down the mountain first to meet the reinforcement team.

After Hayden Shaw completed the handover, he finally took out the backpack Claire Sinclair had entrusted to him. ”Adjutant Hawkins, Reporter Sinclair asked me to bring this. You wouldn’t happen to be her husband, would you?”

For a moment, Aiden Howkins didn’t register who ”Reporter Sinclair” was, so he asked, ”Who’s Reporter Sinclair?”

Hayden Shaw raised an eyebrow. ”Claire Sinclair, the reporter from the Astoria Daily.”

”Holy crap!”

Aiden Howkins’s hands trembled in shock, and he quickly clutched the backpack tighter. ”She asked you to bring this?”

”Yeah, she said to give it to either you or Nancy Lockwood. So which one of you is her husband?”

”Her husband...” Aiden Howkins gave a mysterious smile, not revealing the answer. Instead, he asked, ”Speaking of which, where is she? Don’t tell me she came with you?”

”N-no, she didn’t come.” Hayden Shaw remembered his promise to Claire Sinclair and nearly let the secret out, catching himself just in time.

Aiden Howkins said suspiciously, ”You look a little uncomfortable.”

Hayden Shaw smoothly changed the subject back. ”Adjutant Hawkins, you still haven’t told me who her husband is. You guys are all being so secretive about it, it’s making me really curious to know the answer.”

Aiden Howkins pointed to the command center not far away. ”The one lying down inside is her husband. Want to go in and see?”

”See him? Of course I want to see him! I’ll go right now!” Hayden Shaw couldn’t contain his curiosity any longer and strode toward the command center.

Two guards stood outside the command center, but they didn’t stop him when they saw him approach.

Hayden Shaw walked into the tent and saw a disheveled man lying on the cot. His face was covered by the taro leaf, however. ’Probably some squad leader,’ he thought.

So, he boldly removed the taro leaf...

The next second, as if he’d seen a ghost, he scrambled to put the taro leaf back.

The movement inadvertently woke the lightly sleeping Adrian Quincy.

Adrian Quincy removed the taro leaf and rose gracefully. He lifted his gaze to the one who had disturbed his dream, his cold eyes narrowing slightly. ”Is there something you need?”

Hayden Shaw’s heart skipped a beat. ’I’m screwed!’

’So Reporter Sinclair’s husband is Young Master Quincy. That bastard Aiden Howkins... he totally set me up! Just wait, I’ll get him back for this!’
