I Married the President

Chapter 286: Chapter 286: Isn’t It Faster to Just Say Your Husband’s Name?

”Still playing coy with me, haha... Alright, let’s not just stand around. Time to move.” With that, Captain Shaw took out his walkie-talkie and started assigning tasks.

The volunteer team had nothing to do for the moment, so they waited quietly on the side.

The rescue team unloaded five lifeboats from their vehicles. They started by transporting some emergency supplies across. Fortunately, the horizontal distance to the mountain on the other side wasn’t far; a round trip took only about twenty minutes. When they were carrying lighter supplies, they could also ferry one person over.

The volunteer team let the doctors cross first, as there was a risk of an epidemic on the mountain, and medical assistance was needed.

After waiting from morning until afternoon, Claire Sinclair finally boarded a lifeboat heading for the mountain on the other side.

Once on the mountain, Claire Sinclair regrouped with the other volunteers and walked uphill to serve the disaster victims.

Over a hundred thousand residents of Garlan Town were trapped on this mountain. The majority were children, the elderly, and women. Most of the young, able-bodied men were away working as migrant laborers, which led to a severe shortage of manual labor on the mountain.

The arrival of the volunteers was undoubtedly a godsend for the relief efforts. They helped evacuate victims, set up tents, distribute relief supplies, and care for the old, weak, sick, and disabled, taking a significant load off the rescue team.

As darkness began to fall, the rescue team received a request for help from Quincy Manor. They needed manpower, so a small detachment was dispatched to provide support on Mount Garlan.

When Claire Sinclair heard the news, she hurried to the front lines. Before the support team could depart, she pulled Captain Shaw aside. ”Captain Shaw, I want to go with you. Is that okay?”

Captain Shaw looked troubled. ”Reporter Sinclair, the conditions over there are infinitely worse than here. Let me put it this way: it’s all heavy manual labor, men’s work. There are almost no women there, and they don’t even have tents to sleep in. If you go, not only will you be unable to help, you might just get in the team’s way. You see...”

Claire Sinclair understood what he meant, and her heart sank a little with disappointment.

’Over here, there are plenty of other women, and we can all look out for each other. But over there... I might not even get to see Adrian. And given my physical stamina, I’d almost certainly just hold everyone back.’

’Looks like now isn’t the time to go looking for him...’

With this in mind, Claire Sinclair took off her backpack, pulled out her two changes of clothes, and handed the bag to Captain Shaw. ”In that case, could I trouble you, Captain Shaw? Please help me get this bag to Nancy. If you can’t find her, giving it to Aiden Howkins is fine too. Once they have it, they’ll help me get it to my husband.”

Captain Shaw couldn’t help but ask, ”Wouldn’t it be faster to just tell me your husband’s name?”

”If I told you, my husband would definitely not let me stay here. Anyway, you just need to give it to Nancy or Aiden Howkins. That’s all. Can you do that, Captain Shaw?”

”Alright, I’ll help you.” Captain Shaw took the backpack, feeling a little puzzled.

’This girl is so secretive. I’m really curious who her husband is.’

Claire Sinclair added one last instruction, ”One more thing.”

”Spit it out. We’re about to leave.”

”If my husband asks where I am, you must not tell him I came here. Just say I asked you to bring it from Aethelgard. I’m begging you!”

Captain Shaw raised an eyebrow. ”Are you traveling a thousand miles to find your husband, or a thousand miles to hide from him?”

Claire Sinclair gave an embarrassed smile. ”If he knew I was here, he’d probably kill me. I don’t want him to be distracted. The disaster relief work is more important.”

”Fine, I’ll take it for you.” After saying this, Captain Shaw turned and left.

Claire Sinclair breathed a sigh of relief and turned to go back and help.
