I Married the President

Chapter 275: Chapter 275: Why Should Someone Like You Deserve His Doting?

Claire Sinclair was thoroughly puzzled. He always seemed so busy, especially whenever she brought up divorce. That’s when he would enter The Inferno mode, becoming impossibly swamped with work.

And now?

Ha. So he had the free time to buy groceries and cook for her, but no time to grant her a divorce.

She was finally starting to understand. She had been caught in his playbook all along, and it was impossible to guard against.

She decided she would go on a hunger strike when he got back.

Before long, Adrian Quincy returned.

He hadn’t bought much: two eels, a bag of red dates, and various seasonings.

When Claire saw them, she asked curiously, ”What did you buy eels for?”

”To make you red date and eel congee. It’s good for your blood and energy.”

”You actually know about wellness, too!”

’Is there anything in this world he doesn’t know???’

”It’s just common knowledge. You’d understand if you read more.”

”That’s a roundabout way of saying I don’t read!”

”You don’t need to. I’ll take care of you.”

”...”

’Damn, he caught me completely off guard with that line.’

Adrian Quincy said no more, simply taking the ingredients into the kitchen.

Bored and restless, Claire couldn’t stay on the sofa for long. She headed into the kitchen to see if he needed a hand.

But the moment she stepped inside, he shooed her out. His reason: the kitchen was full of oily smoke, and it wasn’t good for a girl to linger in there.

Claire felt his concern was bordering on neurotic. ’I’m a common sparrow at best, not some golden phoenix. Does he really need to pamper me this much?’

’If he keeps spoiling me like this, I’ll be completely ruined. Isn’t he afraid he’ll turn me into a useless good-for-nothing?’

At this thought, a sour feeling washed over Claire’s heart.

’Claire Sinclair, what right does someone like you have to be so cherished by him?’

’Do you even deserve it?’

She asked herself, and the answer was always no.

’Someone like me... really doesn’t deserve it.’

Claire’s mood inexplicably turned sullen and agitated. While the man was still cooking lunch, she went out into the courtyard and sat down in the pavilion to contemplate her life.

「Kitchen.」

The red date and eel congee was almost ready, but it was too hot to serve just yet.

Adrian Quincy ladled a serving into a bowl, planning to let it cool before giving it to her.

Just then, his phone suddenly rang.

Adrian Quincy took out his phone and glanced at it. The caller ID read: Mother.

His brow furrowed slightly as he answered the call. ”Mother.”

His mother’s furious and exasperated voice came through the phone. ”Adrian, are you trying to kill me with anger? Yara is your own sister! No matter what she did wrong, you can’t sue her!”

”So, you’re calling to plead her case, Mother. I’m sorry, but I won’t be dropping the lawsuit. Before she gets locked up, you can feel free to ask her what ’good deeds’ she’s done. But do not disturb Claire and me. Otherwise, I’ll settle all our old and new scores at once, and if you get dragged into it, don’t blame me for being an unfilial son.”

Without giving his mother a chance to retort, Adrian Quincy immediately hung up.

The next second, another call came in.

This time, it was Aiden Howkins.

’The results of the physical must be out.’ Adrian Quincy answered, unable to contain his impatience. ”How is it?”

”Young Master Quincy, the results are in. The doctor said they haven’t found anything abnormal with the Young Madam’s health for now. As for the detailed report, should I send it over now, or bring it to the mansion for you to review when you get back?”

”Bring it to the mansion. No need to send it here.”

”Yes, sir.”

After hanging up, the corners of Adrian Quincy’s lips curved up slightly, and he let out a breath of relief.

’As long as she’s okay.’

...

「The Old Quincy Estate, in a pink boudoir on the second floor.」

Yara Quincy cautiously pushed the window open a crack. Peeking through the gap into the courtyard below and seeing no one around, a surge of joy filled her as she boldly swung the window wide open.
