Ghost Catching System

Before leaving, Mu Yuxun said, ”Chu Hao, my sister has returned, and she has encountered a great opportunity.”

Chu Hao was happy for Mu Yufei and said, ”Sister Yu Fei hasn’t become a nun, has she?”

Mu Yuxun shook her head. ”No, the opportunity she encountered is very significant. The Seventh District has already taken measures to protect her. My sister asked me to request your assistance after you leave the Holy City to find out more for her.”

”Okay,” Chu Hao agreed.

After saying goodbye to them, he let the little turtle continue leading the way.

The little turtle scoffed. ”You humans are so complicated. Thousands of years have passed, and you’re still scheming against each other. This won’t do.”

Chu Hao, holding the little turtle in his hand, asked, ”What do you mean?”

The little turtle replied at a leisurely pace, ”Expecting this generation of humans to deal with Foreign Ghosts? No way.”

Chu Hao asked, ”Are you referring to the Foreign Ghosts from the Land of the Vast Ancient in the Underworld?”

The little turtle sneered. ”They’re nothing but cannon fodder for Foreign Ghosts. The real Foreign Ghosts regard us as food and don’t even spare Yin Souls.”

Hearing this for the first time was extremely chilling.

Just what were these Foreign Ghosts?

Chu Hao inquired, ”The Foreign Ghosts you speak of, what are they really, and are they in the Human World?”

The little turtle said, ”If they were in the Human World, you would all be dead already. Once these Foreign Ghosts breach the Underworld, you can just wait to die. Anyway, I, the Divine Turtle, think that no one in the Human World can withstand the Foreign Ghosts, not even a Loose Saint.”

Chu Hao caught the crucial implication: If the Foreign Ghosts breach the Underworld, they’ll descend upon the Human World?

Chu Hao looked toward the toad, wondering how much he knew.

The toad said, ”You can’t say it like that. The Underworld Deities are very strong, and neither the Shanhai Civilization nor the Ancient Taoist Civilization has ever defeated the Underworld.”

Chu Hao couldn’t help asking, ”What exactly are these Foreign Ghosts?”

The toad explained, ”These Foreign Ghosts come from the ends of the Land of the Vast Ancient. They aren’t quite the ghosts of the Underworld, as there’s no record of them in the Book of Life and Death. They are a very sinister group of creatures that specialize in consuming Yin Souls. If they encounter beings from the Yang Realm, they regard them as a delicacy.”

Were these Foreign Ghosts really as terrifying as they sounded?

”Would it be very dangerous if the Foreign Ghosts entered the Human World?” Chu Hao asked.

The little turtle replied, ”Dangerous? It would be the downfall of all living beings.”

The toad said, ”Indeed, if the Foreign Ghosts came to the Human World, I’m guessing everyone would die. However, it’s very difficult for them to come through. The Underworld certainly won’t allow it, unless the Underworld itself is destroyed by the Foreign Ghosts. Of course, if the Underworld were no more, the Human World would likely descend into chaos on its own; it wouldn’t even need the Foreign Ghosts to cause its destruction.”

Chu Hao asked the little turtle, ”The Divine Palace is left for the descendants, what’s in there? Are there any Divine Artifacts or the like?”

The little turtle said, ”If there were Divine Artifacts, we wouldn’t have been slaughtered by the Foreign Ghosts back then.”

Chu Hao, surprised, said, ”Isn’t it said that with the Underworld in place, the Foreign Ghosts can’t reach the Human World?”

The little turtle replied, ”If they all came up, I reckon every living creature on every inch of land would be wiped out. Only three Foreign Ghosts actually came up last time, and that was enough to give the human powerhouses a headache.”

The toad nodded. ”Do you know how the Ancient Taoist Civilization was annihilated? It was because three Foreign Ghosts came to the Human World, leading to the downfall of the Ancient Taoist Civilization.”

Just three Foreign Ghosts brought about the collapse of the Ancient Taoist Civilization? These Foreign Ghosts were monstrously powerful.

「After traveling for a while, they finally arrived.」

The Holy City was not merely made of buildings; it also encompassed mountains, rivers, and terrain that was far larger than what one could see from the outside. These areas had already been scoured by people long ago.

The opportunity spoken of by the little turtle lay beneath a river.

The little turtle said, ”The opportunity I mentioned lies beneath the currents here. Whether you’ll get it depends on your own fortune. This place was once the domain of the Undying Sect.”

The toad hopped up excitedly and exclaimed, ”Are you saying this place is the territory of the Undying Sect?”

The little turtle replied, ”Exactly. I’ve brought you here myself, so don’t bother me again.”

As it spoke, the little turtle disappeared in a puff of smoke, seemingly eager to dive into its thirty thousand harem beauties.

The toad was thrilled, its eyes shining with excitement.

Chu Hao asked, ”Is the Undying Sect really that powerful?”

The toad nodded. ”Of course they are powerful. They’re the revered ancestors of the Corpse Herding Lineage. The Undying Sect’s signature skill is creating undead corpses whose strength can rival that of the Drought Fiend.”

The Undying Sect, this lineage was exceptionally mysterious, refining undead corpses that could combat the Drought Fiend.

Chu Hao and the toad plunged headfirst into the river.

Swimming along, the water was extremely deep. Chu Hao could hold his breath for more than a dozen minutes with no trouble at all.

Continuing to dive, about two hundred meters down, they saw some ancient relics and flickering fluorescent lights.

Cursed Instruments!

Both man and toad, excited, quickly swam towards the relics. These relics had been submerged for an unknown amount of time, covered in floating moss.

Following the fluorescent light, Chu Hao looked down and nearly scared himself half to death.

A Water Corpse rested on the bottom, already decayed to bone. Its eye sockets were sunk in, as if staring at him. Only its hair floated in the water, creating a terrifying sight.

This was the corpse of a woman whose hands and feet had been shackled with iron chains, indicating a tragic death.

Although Chu Hao was startled, his attention quickly shifted to something else. Around the neck of the female corpse, there was a necklace emitting fluorescent light—it was a Cursed Instrument.

Chu Hao was delighted and murmured, ”Miss, since you are already dead, there’s no use for you to keep this Cursed Instrument. How about I take it up to the world of the living and let it see the light of day again?”

Chu Hao reached out to remove it.

This wasn’t the first time Chu Hao had taken something from the dead, but he was still nervous.

”DING... A Third-Order Cursed Instrument detected. Does the Host wish to exchange?”

The necklace was a Third-Order Cursed Instrument—a massive find.

Chu Hao did not exchange it. Each Curse Mark had its unique utility. If his abilities were inadequate, he would exchange it, but if an item had special power, he would keep it for himself.

Chu Hao was about to look around elsewhere when he suddenly felt something grab his ankle.

He looked down and nearly wet himself from fright.

He saw the Water Corpse holding his ankle. This eerie scene scared even Chu Hao, who was accustomed to encountering ghosts, turning his face pale.

You don’t fear a knock on the door if you’ve done nothing guilty, but taking someone else’s possession inevitably leads to nervousness.

Luckily, no one saw this; otherwise, it would have been a significant embarrassment. He, who wasn’t afraid of ghosts, had almost peed himself because of a Water Corpse today.

Chu Hao hurriedly said, ”Miss, since you’re already dead, the necklace would be better off with me. Rest assured, once I surface, I’ll definitely offer incense and prayers for you.”

The Water Corpse still didn’t let go.

Chu Hao pleaded earnestly, ”This Cursed Instrument has been buried for thousands of years. I will make it famous. I promise I won’t bring shame to you, Miss.”

Still, it refused to let go.

Chu Hao got irritated. I’m just taking one necklace! Why is she being so stubborn?

Brother Hao, a man of the world—would I be scared of a dead person?

Chu Hao drew his long knife, intending to sever the hand bone that clutched him, but found that it let go. He smiled to himself. Even the dead are afraid of being cut by a knife.
