Ghost Catching System

The man ahead had a completely bald head and wore a plain cloth robe, looking like a monk.

Licking his lips, he grinned and said, ”You’re a suitable opponent for me.”

Chu Hao was furious. Damn it, he had almost succeeded, and then someone popped up claiming, ”You’re a suitable opponent for me.”

Looking down on Brother Hao, are you?

Chu Hao said, ”Bald donkey, who the hell are you? Believe it or not, I can take you down in minutes.”

The bald man spat. ”Psh, I’m not a bald donkey. My name is Chu Zhiyuan. You, a little brat whose fuzz hasn’t even fully grown in, should call me ’Brother’.”

Chu Hao shouted angrily, ”I don’t have a bald grandson like you! Stop falsely claiming kinship.”

Chu Zhiyuan shouted furiously, ”I’m teaching you a lesson on behalf of my Second Uncle!”

Just then, a black Audi pulled up, and a man leaning on a cane got out. Wearing a trench coat and sporting a slicked-back haircut, he looked just like a movie gambler. ”Zhiyuan,” he said, ”don’t start a fight.”

Only then did Chu Zhiyuan stop. Turning to the man with the cane, he said, ”Second Uncle, this guy took advantage of me. He needs a good lesson.”

The Second Uncle shook his head. ”You might not be able to beat him.”

”I don’t believe it! Let me test him,” Chu Zhiyuan said, shaking his head stubbornly.

Then, shaking his head again as if deciding, he added, ”We’ll spar later. Let’s attend to business first.”

”Alright then.” Chu Zhiyuan finally relented.

Chu Hao was already quite annoyed. ”Who are you guys? Daring to block my path to fortune!”

He had already regarded Shangu Imperial City as his private property; the Eight-foot Magatama could definitely be exchanged for a lot of Pretentiousness Points.

Tiemu Chun, helping Shangu Imperial City up, said excitedly, ”Thank you, hero! I will repay this kindness another day.”

Suddenly, Chu Zhiyuan charged over and punched Tiemu Chun. The latter, utterly stunned, cried out in agony as his bones broke.

Chu Zhiyuan said, ”Did I say you could leave?”

”You!” Tiemu Chun was terrified; he had thought they had come to their rescue.

Chu Hao frowned. What’s the deal with these two?

The Second Uncle spoke up. A wide smile spread across his face, perfectly complementing his classic gambler hairstyle. ”Chu Hao,” he said, ”I’m your second maternal uncle.”

Chu Hao was stunned. ”Taking advantage of me?” he shouted. ”I’ll be your ’Second Grandpa’ then!”

The Second Uncle, speechless, couldn’t help but chuckle. ”You have a temper just like your father’s,” he said.

Chu Hao didn’t believe a word of it. Someone just turns up and claims to be your second maternal uncle? Damn, trying to pull a fast one like that? I’ll beat the hell out of you!

The Second Uncle said, ”My name is Chu Xionghuan, and his name is Chu Zhiyuan.”

As he spoke, Chu Xionghuan’s eyes met Chu Hao’s, filled with longing and emotion. ”Your mother’s name is Chu Qingcheng,” he said earnestly.

Chu Hao was shaken. He stood there quivering as if a sharp knife had been thrust into his chest.

So, his mother’s name was Chu Qingcheng.

The name Chu Qingcheng, which he heard for the first time, was now deeply etched into his mind, unforgettable.

Chu Hao could even picture how beautiful the woman bearing this name must be.

Yes, she must be very beautiful.

His voice changing slightly, Chu Hao asked, ”And... my father?”

Chu Xionghuan said earnestly, ”Wang Zai.”

After nineteen years, finally knowing his parents’ names both excited Chu Hao and filled him with a deep sadness. He silently vowed that one day, he would fight his way into the Underworld to find them.

Chu Qingcheng. Wang Zai. These two names were deeply etched into his mind—they were his parents’ names.

He would never forget them for as long as he lived.

Chu Hao’s eyes were somewhat red. ”Are you really my second maternal uncle?” he asked.

Chu Xionghuan’s hair was very cool, but one could see a few strands of white mixed within. He nodded. ”Your mother and I are siblings. I’m forty-five this year, and your mother is forty-four.”

Chu Zhiyuan said, ”My father is your mother’s older brother, so I’m truly your older cousin.”

The relatives Chu Hao had always been searching for had now inexplicably appeared before him, stirring a maelstrom of indescribable emotions within him.

Chu Hao felt like bursting into tears. Seeing his relatives didn’t bring happiness; instead, his heart felt heavy and constricted. Nineteen years. They had finally appeared.

Chu Hao’s voice trembled. His mind was filled with too many questions. After a long pause, he finally managed to ask, ”Why didn’t you come looking for me?”

Chu Xionghuan sighed. ”We couldn’t come looking for you because someone was watching you.”

”Who?” asked Chu Hao.

Chu Xionghuan replied, ”The person who adopted you. She isn’t an ordinary person, but a Divine Deity from the Underworld.”

Chu Hao’s head buzzed. How could that be possible? The old granny had been so good to him. If it hadn’t been for her, he would have starved to death.

Chu Xionghuan said, ”She wanted to use you to lure us all out.”

Chu Hao shook his head. ”I don’t believe it. What proof do you have?”

Chu Xionghuan asked, ”Let me ask you, do you know her name?”

Chu Hao opened his mouth, then suddenly realized he truly didn’t know the old granny’s name. He only knew she lived a hard life, surviving by picking up trash to feed him. It felt like she had mentioned her name before, but he just couldn’t recall it.

Chu Xionghuan walked up to Chu Hao and looked him up and down. ”That’s right,” he said. ”She erased parts of your memory, so you can’t remember her name. And she implanted a different set of memories in you.”

Chu Hao couldn’t accept it. ”Why would she do this?” he pressed. ”I still don’t believe it. How could an old granny have such power? I lived with her for several years. If not for her, I would have died long ago!”

Chu Xionghuan sighed. ”You were too young then. You were in her hands, and I couldn’t get close to you.”

Chu Hao asked, ”What proof do you have?”

Chu Xionghuan nodded slightly. ”I have proof, and I will show it to you. In fact, if I tell you her true name in the Underworld, you’ll definitely know her. She is King Qin Guang.”

King Qin Guang?

Chu Hao was stunned. One of the Underworld Kings, King Qin Guang!

Chu Hao exclaimed in shock, ”How is that possible?”

Chu Xionghuan said, ”It is him. If not for King Qin Guang, you wouldn’t have lost your parents, and our Chu Family wouldn’t have ended up like this.”

Chu Hao frowned. He thought for a long time, then a question popped into his mind: ”So, all those experiences—following the old granny every day to pick garbage, living in a dilapidated mud-brick house with a leaky roof when it rained, fighting rats for food, never knowing where the next meal would come from—all of that was fake?”

Chu Zhiyuan’s eyes widened. ”Holy crap, cousin, your life was too miserable, wasn’t it? That King Qin Guang really didn’t treat you like a human, giving you such a wretched past!”

Chu Xionghuan looked somewhat helpless, his face etched with guilt. ”As far as I know,” he said, ”although you were young at the time, you were temporarily taken in by a family, and your life was actually quite good. There’s evidence for all of this.”

”Afterward, when he took you away, he probably erased your memories and implanted different ones.”

Chu Hao: ”…WHAT THE FU—!!!”

Damn it all!!!

So all my tragic experiences back then were fake?

That freaking King Qin Guang is completely shameless! To saddle me with such a tragic history, treating me not like a person, but like a stray dog!
