Flash Marriage: He is a Wife-pampering Addict

Chapter 2012: Chapter 2011: Truly Ruthless

Jing Xiaocha didn’t want to delay Wen Jin and Sister Ou’s date, so she quickly refused, “Brother Wen, Sister Ou is still waiting for you, you’d better go.”

“It’s okay.”

Wen Jin’s voice was calm and low, yet carried an undeniable assertiveness.

He immediately took out his phone and dialed Ou Yihan’s number, “Yihan, something came up and I can’t have dinner with you.”

The call lasted less than a minute before he hung up.

Seeing him call Ou Yihan to cancel the date, Jing Xiaocha didn’t say anything more and led him upstairs.

Opening the door, they heard the sound of running water from the kitchen. Jing Xiaocha rushed into the kitchen, where Zhang Minghui was still standing by the sink, rinsing his hand.

His once fine hand was now red and swollen, the entire hand burnt.

“How did it get so badly burned?”

Jing Xiaocha frowned tightly at Zhang Minghui, who had his left hand bandaged, leaving only his right hand intact, and now it was burnt like this.

Zhang Minghui’s eyes flickered as he spoke in a low voice, “Aunt, I was thirsty and wanted to boil some water, but accidentally burned my hand.”

“Wasn’t there already water in the kettle? Why did you need to boil more?”

“I didn’t check the kettle.”

Zhang Minghui seemed somewhat guilty, not daring to meet Jing Xiaocha’s eyes.

Wen Jin, who had followed them in, glanced at Zhang Minghui’s hand, noting the bandaged left hand and the red swollen right hand, with the kettle thrown on the ground, water everywhere.

“You really have some skill, managing to burn the hand holding the kettle like this.”

Wen Jin’s cool voice came from behind Jing Xiaocha, as he bent down to pick up the kettle.

Seeing Wen Jin, Zhang Minghui’s eyes shrank as he looked pitifully at Jing Xiaocha, red-eyed, “Aunt, let’s go to the hospital, my hand really hurts.”

Wen Jin took a step forward with the kettle, looking down at Zhang Minghui, “Did you hold the kettle with your right hand, or with your left hand?”

Zhang Minghui pursed his lips, not answering.

Jing Xiaocha explained for him, “Brother Wen, his other hand is bandaged, he could only use his right hand.”

Wen Jin smiled, “That’s interesting, you must have been going outside to pour water into a cup, but you spilled the kettle in the kitchen, and even if it dropped because you didn’t hold it steady, the water should have splashed on your feet, not on your right hand holding the kettle.”

Jing Xiaocha looked suspicious as she gazed at Wen Jin’s hand holding the kettle, just like he said, if Zhang Minghui accidentally didn’t hold it steady,

the kettle would fall and the scalding water would have splashed on his feet, not his hand.

She suddenly released Zhang Minghui’s hand and quickly walked out of the kitchen to Zhang Minghui’s desk on the balcony.

The homework she had assigned him before leaving had merely a single initial scrawled on it, and then the pen was tossed aside.

In the kitchen, Zhang Minghui shot a resentful glance at Wen Jin, blaming him for ruining his plan.

Wen Jin leisurely watched him; when he entered the house, he had caught a glimpse of the balcony where a desk with pen and paper stood.

He knew Zhang Minghui’s mischief, and when he saw Jing Xiaocha returning with a notebook and a stern expression, Wen Jin realized that Zhang Minghui had indeed hurt his only good hand to avoid doing homework.

This little rascal, he was ruthless with himself.

“Zhang Minghui, do you think you’re clever, that by burning your hand, you’d avoid homework and studying?”

Jing Xiaocha confronted him coldly.

“I didn’t.”

Clearly guilty, Zhang Minghui’s eyes darted around, avoiding Jing Xiaocha’s gaze, but stubbornly refusing to admit it.

Jing Xiaocha scoffed, “Now both your hands are injured, you can’t study or write, so our deal is void. I can’t just let you freeload here; I’ll send you back right now.”

Hearing this, Zhang Minghui panicked.

This wasn’t what he had planned.

He thought he could temporarily avoid homework by injuring his hand, enjoying free meals here.

How did it turn into being sent away?

“Aunt, I don’t want to go back.”

Zhang Minghui grabbed Jing Xiaocha’s sleeve, disregarding his own red and swollen hand.

If he were sent back, his uncaring grandmother certainly wouldn’t pity him and would make him work every day.

Jing Xiaocha’s face remained stern, her tone firm and non-negotiable, “You can’t fulfill any part of our agreement, why should I keep you here for free?”

“Aunt, I was wrong.”

Zhang Minghui, at least, was willing to admit his mistakes.

“How were you wrong?”

“I shouldn’t have burned my hand just to avoid homework. Aunt, I promise there won’t be a next time, and even if my hand is burned, I can still do my homework.”

“…”

Jing Xiaocha gave him a skeptical look.

Zhang Minghui gritted his teeth, grabbed the notebook from her hands, and ran to his desk to start writing.

Wen Jin glanced at Zhang Minghui running over to do his homework, then looked back at Jing Xiaocha beside him, softly saying, “You did the right thing, you can’t spoil him.”

“If it weren’t for you, Brother Wen, I would’ve been fooled by him.”

Jing Xiaocha said with a sigh.

It seemed she had been away from Zhang Minghui for too long, forgetting how troublesome he could be.

Wen Jin smiled, “It seems he does have weaknesses; with the right methods, you can correct him.”

Earlier, Wen Jin noticed Zhang Minghui’s rough hands, even with calluses. Mentioning sending him back, he seemed unwilling.

It appeared he preferred staying with Jing Xiaocha.

Wen Jin and Jing Xiaocha left the kitchen and went to the living room. Zhang Minghui ran over with his notebook, eagerly looking at Jing Xiaocha, “Aunt, I can write.”

Jing Xiaocha took the notebook he handed over. After the first initial, he had written a few more letters, more neatly than the first one.

He could write; he just didn’t want to.

“You’re tough-skinned; you don’t need to go to the hospital. Apply some ointment and finish the homework your aunt assigned you.”

The ointment was from Wen Jin Pharmaceutical Factory. He had grabbed a tube of it on his way out of the car.

Though Zhang Minghui felt slightly aggrieved, he didn’t dare refuse. Indeed, being a tough-skinned boy, he hadn’t cried despite the burn; his earlier complaints seemed an act.

When Jing Xiaocha applied the ointment for him, he bit his lips tightly, not making a sound.

Wen Jin sat calmly watching the scene, hoping this lesson would stick with Zhang Minghui and deter him from further mischief.

He knew Xiaocha was too kind-hearted, which was why she put up with Zhang Minghui despite his troublesome nature.

Seeing Jing Xiaocha finish applying the ointment, Wen Jin spoke mildly, “Staying at your aunt’s place, you can’t freeload. Once your hand heals, come work at my factory. I’ll pay you.”
