Flash Marriage: He is a Wife-pampering Addict

Chapter 2009: 2008 I Like You

Jing Xiaocha, with a courage she didn’t know she possessed, looked at Wen Jin with tearful eyes and continued speaking before he could respond, “Brother Wen, I do like you, but I also know you don’t like me. You can rest assured that even though I’ve returned to the country now, I won’t cling to you insensitively.”

“Nor will I become a third party.”

She swallowed all the grievances and stubbornly lifted her chin, “I am very grateful for your help this time. I will handle the rest by myself. I wish you and Sister Ou happiness.”

Saying this, Jing Xiaocha took out her wallet and put the money Wen Jin had forcibly ‘lent’ her that day on the table in front of him, “This is the money you lent me that day. My serialized novel has some income, enough to support myself.”

Putting the wallet back into her bag, Jing Xiaocha added, “Please thank Sister Ou for me, Brother Wen.”

After saying this, Jing Xiaocha grabbed her bag and ran out of the restaurant.

Wen Jin blinked, still somewhat unable to react.

Jing Xiaocha had said those words as if setting off firecrackers and ran away as if she had suffered great injustice.

He looked at the money on the table, and after a moment, reached out to pick it up and put it into his wallet. There was a faint coldness appearing in his handsome features.

Wen Jin didn’t feel that he had done anything wrong, but since Jing Xiaocha had misunderstood, he didn’t want to explain anything.

However, her earlier words, “I do like you,” kept echoing in his ears. Thinking of the grievance when she left, and her slightly reddened eyes, he felt a slight discomfort somewhere in his heart.

Wen Jin thought he was feeling empathetic.

Because he himself liked someone he shouldn’t, he understood the bitterness of unrequited love, so he could understand and sympathize with Jing Xiaocha’s suffering from liking him.

Although he was avoiding her, he couldn’t help but be concerned about her.

After saying those words to Wen Jin, Jing Xiaocha got into a taxi but couldn’t hold back tears from wetting her eyes.

She stubbornly looked out the window, watching the buildings rapidly recede, thinking about her undeserved affection for Wen Jin, an endless bitterness spread in her heart.

Knowing she shouldn’t like him, but unable to control her heart.

Even after escaping abroad, across the Pacific Ocean, she couldn’t get rid of the shadow on her heart during those lonely days and nights.

Instead, it was that ingrained, wanton affection that led her to write her first novel, a story with a tragic ending.

Perhaps because it was genuine emotion, her own story, even though it was her debut work, it was well-received by readers.

Back home, Jing Xiaocha cooked herself a bowl of instant noodles. Just as she brought it to the living room and hadn’t started eating, the phone rang again.

She glanced at the caller ID, frowned, and threw the phone aside, bowing her head to eat the noodles.

After finishing the noodles, another call came in.

This time, it wasn’t from Jin Fengjiao. She pressed the answer button, and an elderly voice came through from the other end, “Jing Xiaocha, Minghui is in the hospital. You should come to the hospital quickly.”

“Why is he in the hospital, is he sick?”

Jing Xiaocha’s eyes slightly changed, her delicate eyebrows lightly furrowing.

Zhang Minghui had always been in good health.

“It’s not an illness; he was beaten up. It’s too complicated to explain over the phone. You should come to Kangning Hospital quickly.”

With that, the other person hung up the phone.

Even though Jing Xiaocha didn’t want to care about Zhang Minghui, she was considered a ‘relative’ of his. After hesitating for a moment, she still picked up her bag and left the house.

When Jing Xiaocha arrived at Kangning Hospital, Zhang Minghui had already completed his surgery and was pushed into the ward.

“Xiaocha, you’re finally here. Minghui’s medical expenses haven’t been paid yet, you should go and pay all the fees for him. The doctor said he needs to be hospitalized for a few days and also requires a deposit.”

It was Zhang Minghui’s grandmother who had spoken.

She wasn’t a biological relative; she was the wife her grandfather married afterward.

After Zhang Minghui’s grandfather passed away early last year, he could only follow this grandmother.

Jing Xiaocha knew before coming that if they called her to the hospital, it was definitely to make her pay. She didn’t immediately turn back to pay, but instead went to the bedside.

Lying on the hospital bed, Zhang Minghui was still not very conscious due to the anesthesia from the surgery. She called out “Zhang Minghui,” and the boy opened his eyes to look at her with no expression.

This didn’t surprise Jing Xiaocha.

Zhang Minghui always disliked her. He used to accuse her of seducing his father, causing his parents to end up in jail. After more than a year of not seeing each other, he had grown taller, but his dislike for her was as deep as ever.

Jing Xiaocha knew he could hear her and continued speaking on her own, “Why did you get into a fight? Don’t you know that hospitalization costs a lot?”

“…”

Zhang Minghui rolled his eyes and simply turned his back to face away from her.

The old woman standing two steps away spoke again, “Xiaocha, I can’t control this kid. Since you’re back now, you should take him home.”

“I can’t control him either.”

Jing Xiaocha coldly glanced at Zhang Minghui, who had turned his back, and went downstairs to pay for him.

“Xiaocha, why are you here?”

At the payment window, someone tapped Jing Xiaocha on her shoulder, and Bai Yiyi’s voice sounded from behind.

Jing Xiaocha turned her head, “Sister Bai.”

“Are you feeling unwell?”

Bai Yiyi observed Jing Xiaocha and asked with concern. Gu Kai was with her, and it looked like the two were planning to go home.

Jing Xiaocha softly replied, “I’m not unwell. It’s my nephew, Zhang Minghui, who got into a fight and was hospitalized. I’m here to pay for him.”

Standing behind Bai Yiyi, Gu Kai raised a handsome eyebrow, “Zhang Minghui, is that the disobedient kid?”

He still remembered that kid.

Jing Xiaocha nodded, “Yes, it’s him.”

“Is he living with you now?”

“No, he’s living with his grandparents. Just now, his grandmother called me, saying he had been in a fight and asked me to come to the hospital…”

After listening to her brief explanation, Gu Kai understood, “Since the kid is staying in our hospital and you’ve already paid for him, he can’t keep treating you the same way as before.”

Jing Xiaocha indifferently said, “Let him be. His dislike for me isn’t something that started yesterday. I’m used to it.”

“We’ll go see him with you,” Gu Kai said after a brief pause, making the decision.

Bai Yiyi nodded without objection, and the three of them returned to the ward together. The old woman recognized Gu Kai and enthusiastically greeted him when she saw Jing Xiaocha bringing them back.

Gu Kai went to the bedside and, without a word, reached out to pinch Zhang Minghui’s injured area. The originally side-lying Zhang Minghui let out an “ah”, immediately turning his head to look at him.

“With skills like these, and you still got into a fight?”

Facing Zhang Minghui’s angry eyes, Gu Kai shook his head disdainfully.

“You…”

Zhang Minghui’s eyes were filled with anger, but after uttering “you”, he fell silent.
