Flash Marriage: He is a Wife-pampering Addict

Chapter 1985: 1984 Waiting Half an Hour for You

Jing Xiaocha looked at Wen Jin sitting in the driver’s seat and suddenly felt conflicted.

This was their first proper meeting since she returned to the country, and Wen Jin drove a long way to personally bring her back.

Logically, Jing Xiaocha should invite Wen Jin up for a cup of tea.

But given their current relationship, if she were to invite him for tea, would it give him the wrong idea, making him think she…

“Is there anything else?”

Wen Jin surveyed the surroundings outside the car window. After waiting for two minutes without hearing Jing Xiaocha get out of the car, he turned back and saw her looking at him with a troubled expression.

There was a hint of surprise in his Mo Yu eyes.

Jing Xiaocha immediately shook her head, “No, nothing else, Brother Wen, thank you for bringing me home.”

After speaking, she quickly turned to open the car door and got out.

Wen Jin did not respond. He watched Jing Xiaocha get out of the car and wave at him after closing the door before she turned and walked into the apartment.

He started the engine and drove away in a cloud of dust.

Jing Xiaocha returned home, took a nap, and upon waking, poured herself a glass of water, sat on the sofa with her laptop, and booted it up while sipping water to wake herself up.

The phone on the coffee table buzzed, and Jing Xiaocha put down her laptop and picked up the phone to answer it.

“Xiaocha, it’s me.”

Jin Zheyu’s voice came over the line.

Jing Xiaocha leaned back into the sofa, “I’m rushing a manuscript, what’s up?”

“I heard from my dad that you rejected Star Summer Film and Television’s attempt to buy the adaptation rights to your novel?”

Fresh from a nap, Jing Xiaocha’s mind was a bit slow, not immediately grasping Jin Zheyu’s words, “Your dad?”

“Yes, I just got home and heard from my dad. He said Li Minxu told him you refused to have your novel adapted into a TV series. Xiaocha, this is a rare opportunity…”

“Hold on a second.”

Jing Xiaocha raised her hand to her forehead, interrupting Jin Zheyu’s anxious persuasion on the other end.

“What’s wrong?”

Jin Zheyu asked concernedly over the phone.

Jing Xiaocha recalled the call she received at Yi Pin Xuan Pavilion from Editor Li earlier that noon and the things he said.

She was well aware that Star Summer Film and Television belonged to Jin Zheyu’s family. Jin Zheyu had told her before that he could turn her novel into a TV series.

But Jing Xiaocha declined.

She and Jin Zheyu were just ordinary friends, and she didn’t want him to do anything for her, let alone fund a TV series based on her novel.

“How did you know about this? Did you recommend my novel to your dad?”

“Xiaocha, I just recommended your novel, nothing more. There’s no reason to refuse just because of this.”

“I don’t want my novel turned into a TV series. Most novels adapted now end up being seriously altered. I don’t want my story to become a mess.”

Jing Xiaocha paused for a moment, searching for a more acceptable reason.

She didn’t want to tell Jin Zheyu that his father’s demands were not only to fundamentally alter her novel but also to add some elements she couldn’t accept.

Even if she explained, Jin Zheyu’s response would surely echo Editor Li’s, offering various excuses about how new writers lack influence and must include sensational elements to attract audiences…

“How could it become a mess, Xiaocha? Even if it gets adapted into a TV series, you would be the screenwriter, and you could write it entirely based on your concept and ideas while staying as true to the original work as possible.”

“Let’s talk about this later. Editor Li asked me to submit the remaining manuscript within half a month, and I’m really busy right now, with no time to consider anything else.”

“Alright then, finish your manuscript first.”

After hanging up the phone, Jing Xiaocha picked up her laptop again, first opening the web page to check the serialized novel on the site, then reviewed the drafts in her draft folder for typos and set them to publish over the coming week.

Only then did she open a document and start working on her manuscript.

The sunset shone through the floor-to-ceiling windows, casting a soft glow on her black hair.

Her slender, pale fingers danced across the keyboard, her expressive eyes filled with focus and elegance, adding a layer of serenity rarely seen on Jing Xiaocha’s face, a gentle grace.

Over the past year, she had changed quite a bit.

From the stubborn, hot-headed teenager she used to be, she had shed her youthful naivete and gained a gentle demeanor.

Just like what Wen Ran teased her, she didn’t lack in developing where she should, and she’s no longer the immature girl. Now she is a truly pretty and charming young woman in her prime.

After an hour of focused writing, Jing Xiaocha set down her laptop, raised both hands to ease her sore neck.

She got up and walked around the living room, stretching her muscles, and poured herself another cup of tea.

Then she continued.

The days of writing were monotonous and lonely.

For dinner, Jing Xiaocha simply ordered takeout, and after eating and bathing, she sat on the bed with her laptop to continue working on her manuscript.

The phone rang again at around nine o’clock.

The caller ID displayed an unfamiliar number, and Jing Xiaocha showed a hint of confusion in her eyes, staring at the number for a few seconds before her slender fingers pressed the answer key.

“Jing Xiaocha, I’m Zheyu’s sister, can you come out for a bit? I have something to talk to you about.”

Jing Xiaocha frowned slightly, Jin Fengjiao looking for her?

“I’m sorry, Miss Jin, I’m about to go to bed now. Can we talk tomorrow?”

“Don’t lie to me, what are you doing going to bed this early? Don’t you want your novel to be adapted into a TV series? Don’t you want to be a screenwriter, don’t you want success?”

Jin Fengjiao threw a few questions over the phone, her tone laced with disdain.

Before Jing Xiaocha could refuse, Jin Fengjiao gave her an address, “…I’ll wait for you here. Come within half an hour; I know you live close by.”

It seemed that meeting her tonight was unavoidable.

Jing Xiaocha replied mildly, “I really don’t have the habit of going out in the evening. Why don’t you tell me what you need to say over the phone, Miss Jin?”

She had been rushing the manuscript for several hours now and was very tired and just wanted to do some yoga and then sleep.

“I’ll still be waiting for you here.”

Having the rich young lady Jin Fengjiao wait for someone like Jing Xiaocha was already giving her enough face.

With that, Jin Fengjiao hung up the phone on her own accord.

Jing Xiaocha looked at the dead call with displeasure, rolling her eyes, but she considered that Jin Fengjiao was Jin Zheyu’s sister, and during her time abroad, Jin Zheyu had helped her several times, and she indeed owed Jin Zheyu.

Even though she was reluctant to meet her, out of regard for Jin Zheyu, she got off the bed, changed clothes, and went to see Jin Fengjiao.

The place Jin Fengjiao mentioned wasn’t far from where Jing Xiaocha lived, just about ten minutes’ walk.

From the time she received the call to reaching the cafe, only twenty minutes had passed.

As soon as she entered the cafe, she spotted Jin Fengjiao sitting by the window.
