Flash Marriage: He is a Wife-pampering Addict

Chapter 1976: 1975 She Is Very Happy

A wisp of night wind brushed past my ear.

Carrying the unique, subtle sorrow of the graveyard, it seemed like a response from Mr. and Mrs. Wen to their son.

Wen Jin gazed at the fond smiles of his parents on the tombstone, a slight smile unconsciously forming at the corner of his handsome lips, his gentle voice dissipating into the night wind, ”Dad, Mom, unbeknownst to me, you’ve been gone for several years. Even now, I’m still not used to spending the New Year alone...”

Used to New Year’s with his parents, used to family reunions.

In these past few years, though he spent New Year with everyone, Wen Jin still felt the house was too quiet when he returned home.

In that quiet house, there was no sound of his parents.

He didn’t even want to go back home. He squatted down, opened the wine he brought, and poured each of his parents a glass. ”Dad, Mom, I didn’t bring you food tonight, I’ll make you a few dishes tomorrow...”

”Nowadays Ranran is very happy. Ranran’s two children, Momo and Ziyi, are also smart and adorable. Mo Xiuchen treats her just as well as how Dad treated Mom... Dad, you were right back then...”

In the cold and desolate graveyard, amid Wen Jin’s low voice, there was a trace of loneliness spread by the night wind.

A taxi was parked on the roadside below the graveyard.

The driver turned his head and said to the young lady in the back, ”Young lady, we’ve arrived at the graveyard.”

In the dead of night, this young lady wanted to come to the graveyard. If it weren’t for her offering multiple times the fare, the taxi driver wouldn’t have brought her.

”Driver, I’m not getting out of the car. Just stop here for a while. We’ll leave in a bit.”

The girl in the car had delicate features, her white wool sweater accentuating her exquisite visage. But at this moment, her clear eyes held a faint trace of longing.

She lowered the car window, looking outside, ignoring the sudden chill pouring in, her gaze fixed afar.

In the moonlight, a tall, graceful figure could just be seen in the distance. Perhaps it was too far, or this New Year’s Eve with its festive cheer, that made the graveyard feel even more desolate.

Looking at that distant figure, a slight ache rose in her heart.

He was still all alone.

If it were the past, she would definitely have gone to his side to keep him company. But now, after learning who held his heart, she no longer had the courage.

Her thoughts unconsciously drifted to the scene when she first met him, and a mist of tears glistened in her eyes.

”Young lady, didn’t you come here to visit family?”

The driver in the front seat asked curiously.

She came to the graveyard but didn’t get out of the car.

The young lady’s thoughts were interrupted by the driver’s words. At this moment, the distant figure had already left the tombstone and was walking towards them.

She pursed her lips, collected her thoughts, and softly said, ”Driver, let’s go back to where I hailed the cab.”

The driver nodded, responded with an ”Alright”, and started the car to leave.

As Wen Jin stepped towards his car, he saw the taxi departing.

Still pondering, he thought it curious that someone else would come to the graveyard at this hour, just like him.

Sitting in his car, a wave of warmth enveloped him. He turned on the heater, removed his coat, and his phone beeped.

It was the sound of a message.

During New Year’s, greeting messages came one after another. Despite the development of the internet, many people still sent New Year’s greetings via text.

Wen Jin received many greetings tonight, but he wasn’t interested in looking at them—there were too many, and he felt too lazy to reply.

Perhaps it was because he felt lonely and bored at this moment that he decided not to start the car right away, instead taking out his phone, unlocking it, and checking his messages.

”Brother Wen, Happy New Year! I’ve transferred the money I owed you to your account. Did you receive it?”

The signature was Jing Xiaocha!

Wen Jin frowned slightly, reading the message once more. Jing Xiaocha had actually said she transferred the money she owed him to his account.

He nearly forgot. When Jing Xiaocha left the country, she said she’d pay him back once she had the money.

He hadn’t paid it much mind then. She was just a young girl going abroad as an exchange student, not to work. How could she have money before graduating?

Therefore, since she didn’t want to accept it, he had insisted on depositing two hundred thousand into her account.

He recalled that Jing Xiaocha was upset and said, ”I can earn my own living expenses...”

It seems she had a good time abroad, managing to earn money while studying. It seemed like only a year or so, yet she had earned enough to repay him.

Wen Jin checked other messages and indeed, there was one from the bank indicating a deposit. Jing Xiaocha had repaid all the money he lent her in one go.

Wen Jin pursed his lips slightly, dialed her number.

The phone was turned off.

Wen Jin’s frown deepened. Though he hadn’t heard from Jing Xiaocha since she went abroad, her sudden repayment of all the money she owed him...

With her phone off, he couldn’t help but worry.

After hesitating for a few seconds, Wen Jin finally replied to her earlier text message, ”Call me when you turn on your phone.”

Watching as the message was sent, he put his phone away and started the car to head home.

**

Until the next morning, Wen Jin hadn’t received a return call from Jing Xiaocha. As he went downstairs, his aunt had already prepared breakfast.

Just as Wen Jin sat down at the dining table, a call came from Gu Yan.

Seeing the caller ID, a slight surprise flashed in Wen Jin’s eyes. Gu Yan calling this early in the morning couldn’t possibly be about last night’s matter.

He pressed the answer key, speaking warmly and cheerfully, ”Uncle Gu, Happy New Year.”

”Ah Jin, you don’t have any special plans today, do you? I’ve arranged to go fishing with an old friend. Ah Kai and the others aren’t willing to go with me. Will you accompany me?”

”Uncle Gu...”

Wen Jin quickly thought of an excuse, but before he could say it, Gu Yan interrupted, ”Our driver has taken a holiday today. You can drive over to pick me up later. I’ll be waiting at home. That’s it. I’ll first give the kids their New Year’s money.”

After Gu Yan finished speaking, he hung up the phone on his own.

Wen Jin looked at the disconnected call and sighed helplessly.

Ever since Ranran reunited with the Gu family, he, as her brother, was also treated like a son by Gu Yan, who was concerned about his affairs.

The cooperation between Wen’s Pharmaceutical Factory and Kangning Hospital was increasing, and Gu Yan was most concerned about his lifelong event.

Wen Jin hesitated for a moment and dialed Wen Ran’s number.

The phone rang twice before Wen Ran’s lively voice came through, ”Brother.”

”Ranran, do you and Mo Xiuchen have any plans for today?”

”Ah, we’re free today.”

”If you and Mo Xiuchen are busy, I can pick up the three kids and take care of them for a day.”

Wen Jin’s initiative to help take care of the kids surprised Wen Ran and made her laugh softly, ”Brother, we don’t have three kids now, but four. Don’t forget Qingqing.”

Just as Wen Ran finished speaking, Mo Xiuchen’s calm voice came over the phone, ”Ah Jin, just now Dad called and said you’re going fishing with him today. You don’t need to take care of our kids.”
