Flash Marriage: He is a Wife-pampering Addict

Chapter 1980: Chapter 1979: Annoyance

Wen Ran smiled and said, ”I see, I just heard Xiaoxiao say she thought she saw you, and I told her you were abroad, so she must have mistaken someone else for you.”

”Sister Bai, I didn’t see her.”

Jing Xiaocha’s voice carried a hint of surprise. At this moment, she was discussing the follow-up manuscript issues with an editor from a publishing house.

”She got her marriage certificate today. We’re all at Yi Pin Xuan Pavilion now, so since you’re back, come over and have lunch with us.”

Since Jing Xiaocha and Bai Xiaoxiao were not unfamiliar with each other, and Wen Ran hadn’t seen Jing Xiaocha for a long time, she thought it would be nice to meet now that she was back in the country.

On the other end, Jing Xiaocha seemed to be thinking.

After a pause of two seconds, she finally replied, ”Okay, I’ll come over in a bit.”

After hanging up, Wen Ran said to Wen Jin, who was standing beside her, ”Brother, I asked Xiaocha to come over later.”

Wen Jin’s expression was indifferent, unaffected by Jing Xiaocha’s return to the country, and he just responded with a simple ”Hmm.”

Wen Ran opened her mouth, wanting to ask something, but swallowed her words at the last moment.

At that moment, Wen Jin’s phone rang. He took it out, and upon seeing the caller ID, his handsome brows slightly furrowed. His slender forefinger pressed the answer button, and he spoke with a calm voice, ”Hello.”

Standing next to him, Wen Ran couldn’t hear what the other person was saying, but she identified it as a woman’s voice.

She blinked her eyes, wondering if it was the potential partner her father had introduced to her brother.

Wen Jin absentmindedly listened as the woman on the phone exchanged a few pleasantries before asking, ”...Are you free tonight? A friend gave me two tickets to a concert. If you’re free, we could go together.”

Under Wen Ran’s gaze, Wen Jin hesitated for a moment but eventually declined the invitation, ”I’m sorry, I have an engagement tonight.”

His voice was calm and indifferent, showing no interest in attending the concert with her.

If the woman was sensible, she would know that Wen Jin was declining her.

However, the woman perhaps wasn’t the most insightful, or maybe she was genuinely interested in Wen Jin, so she continued, ”How about the weekend? We could go on a trip together...”

She was just a woman he had met two or three times.

No matter how much interest or admiration she showed him, Wen Jin remained uninterested.

”I have a friend’s wedding this weekend.”

Technically speaking, he should’ve been free this weekend since it’s May Day.

However, coincidentally, Bai Xiaoxiao and Luo Haofeng’s wedding was on the May Day.

Wen Ran observed Wen Jin’s indifferent expression, listened to his calm tone, and noticed his slightly pursed lips, and she knew her brother was already very annoyed by the person on the other end of the phone.

”...”

She didn’t know what else the other party might have said that further vexed Wen Jin, but she heard him say, ”I am very busy now, I’ll hang up.”

Without caring that the other person was still talking, he simply hung up the phone.

Wen Ran blinked and curiously asked, ”Brother, was that your dating prospect calling?”

Wen Jin, seeing her curious expression, slightly curved his lips and warmly replied, ”No, let’s go into the private room. Mo Xiuchen would look for you soon.”

That woman was indeed not the potential partner Gu Yan had in mind for Wen Jin.

Gu Yan was even more cautious when introducing a partner for Wen Jin compared to when he introduced one for Gu Kai.

Although Wen Jin wasn’t interested in the ones Gu Yan set him up with either, those women were at least educated and sensible. Once they knew he wasn’t interested, they wouldn’t disturb him further.

In a corner coffee shop.

Jing Xiaocha was sitting by the window with a man in his fifties. Since receiving the phone call from Wen Ran, she’d been somewhat distracted.

”Xiaocha, do you think you can submit the manuscript in half a month?”

The man asked again. Jing Xiaocha, resting her chin on her hand and thinking of who knows what, didn’t respond.

Li Minxu, sitting across from her, looked slightly confused and called her name again, ”Xiaocha.”

Only then did Jing Xiaocha regain her senses. A glimmer of confusion crossed her clear eyes, and she apologetically said, ”Sorry, I didn’t catch that just now.”

Li Minxu, with great patience, repeated his words with a smile.

Jing Xiaocha pondered for a moment and nodded, ”No problem, I’ll submit the remaining manuscript in half a month. But, regarding the remaining manuscript fee?”

Hearing this, Li Minxu immediately smiled, ”Don’t worry about that. This isn’t our first time working together. I’ll have the payment deposited into your account soon. As for the TV contract, I’ll contact you as soon as there’s any progress.”

Jing Xiaocha nodded with a smile, ”Alright, I have a few things to attend to, so I’ll be going now, let’s keep in touch.”

As he said, this wasn’t their first collaboration.

Back when she was abroad, she boldly trusted him, and now that she’s back in the country, there’s even less to worry about.

If she could sign with a powerful film company, it would greatly benefit her writing career.

Standing up, they shook hands before Jing Xiaocha left the coffee shop.

Li Minxu watched her get into a taxi and then turned back to enter the private room.

”President Jin, Mrs. Jin, thank you for waiting.”

In the room sat a man and a woman, the man dressed in a suit and tie, the woman looking elegant and sophisticated.

Upon hearing his words, the man referred to as President Jin glanced at the woman beside him. The woman showed a hint of disdain and arrogance, ”Is she the woman our Zeyu fancies?”

”Madam Jin, she is Jing Xiaocha.”

Mrs. Jin said nothing further but elegantly sipped her coffee.

The man then looked at President Jin, who pondered for a moment before speaking slowly, ”Later, give her a call and tell her to revise the content. It’s too innocent and won’t captivate the audience if made into a TV series.”

The man hesitated slightly, ”President Jin, do you mean...?”

President Jin only gave a cold smile.

After a brief moment, the man nodded and said, ”Understood. I’ll call Jing Xiaocha later and ask her to add the necessary content. As for the contract signing, when would you like to proceed...”

”Let’s discuss it after the revisions are made.”

Jing Xiaocha got into the taxi, gave the Yi Pin Xuan Pavilion address, and drifted back into her thoughts.

On the phone earlier, Wen Ran hadn’t mentioned whether Wen Jin would be there.

But Jing Xiaocha guessed that since it was Bai Xiaoxiao and Luo Haofeng’s marriage certificate celebration, Wen Jin would certainly be there too.

Recalling the scene from two nights ago at the club where she accidentally encountered Wen Jin, his hands on his lap unconsciously interlocked.

A faint sadness circled the edges of her lightly pressed lips.

She couldn’t shake off the image of Wen Jin’s unpleasant expression from her mind, her lips pressing tighter under a subconscious force. A chord in her heart seemed gently plucked by an invisible hand.

Brother Wen surely misunderstood her, which is why his expression was so displeased and he didn’t give her a chance to explain.
