Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 2785: Chapter 2786: The Ma Family’s Threat

The next day, a group of women went shopping, and even Jianqi didn’t want to accompany them. In the end, Bai Ruozhu dismissed him, thinking that he underestimated women’s combat power; they could handle shopping just fine on their own.

So after everyone shopped, they also got more familiar with each other.

The little white dog was left at the Bai Residence and had already been well disciplined by Xiaohei. It was taught many truths about animal life, telling it to behave properly and not to engage in unrefined acts.

Xiaobai was very afraid of Xiaohei, its neck was constantly retracted, its whole body trembling, it seemed genuinely frightened.

This dog didn’t understand philosophical principles; it mainly depended on its owner. Encountering a bad owner was unfortunate.

In the blink of an eye, it was time for the Little Princess Zhenzhu’s third-day bath ceremony. Jiang Yichun and Bai Ruozhu, as the godfather and godmother, had to attend, so they brought a grand gift to the Palace.

The Fusang Delegation also prepared gifts, and the Crown Prince, Princess Ya’an, and Yaxi were also invited.

The ceremony itself was simple, but Consort Le insisted that Bai Ruozhu hold the little princess and even publicly expressed how lucky Princess Zhenzhu was to recognize Bai Ruozhu as her godmother.

For a moment, the aristocrats in the Capital City understood the Bai Family’s prominent position in the emperor’s eyes; they were definitely favored by the son of heaven.

Not far away, the lady of the Tong Family looked displeased. The day Tong Qian came home, she was shocked; her most beloved daughter had been beaten so badly she almost lost her mind in anger.

Later, Tong Zhengye explained the situation to her and informed her of the serious implications. She suddenly realized she had been too indulgent with her daughter, allowing her to develop such a character.

She felt regret on one hand but didn’t think much of Bai Ruozhu, just the sister of a second place in the national examination, and her husband was merely Elder Jiang Ge’s grandson, wasn’t he?

But the family of a second place has no deep foundation, and every three years, new Champions and second places emerge, so what was Bai Zepei?

Elder Jiang Ge had already passed away, and the Jiang Family was no longer as it was, unlike their Tong Family’s prominence in the Capital today.

But at this moment, she finally realized her own short-sightedness. What kind of person is the Little Princess to casually accept any godmother? Considering the emperor’s and Consort Le’s attitudes, it was clear Tong Qian had gotten into serious trouble this time.

Thinking of this, Tong Madame felt as if she was sitting on pins and needles, pondering how to find an opportunity to apologize to Bai Ruozhu.

After the ceremony, people were led by palace maids to their seats. Tong Madame wanted to speak with Bai Ruozhu, but Bai Ruozhu was held back by Consort Le, so she had to resignedly go take her seat first.

”This third-day bath ceremony is too exhausting for new mothers, you should quickly go back and rest,” Bai Ruozhu called someone to support Consort Le.

”When Xige’er was born, we didn’t have a third-day bath ceremony, I’ve always regretted that. This time, it fulfilled my wish. Before I got married, attending other people’s third-day baths always seemed interesting, especially seeing the little ones cry,” Consort Le was in good spirits and smiled as she spoke.

”Well, when it comes to the grabbing ceremony, it’s even more interesting, you ought to make it noteworthy,” Bai Ruozhu said with a smile.

Consort Le held her hand, ”Then it’s settled, you must be there for Zhenzhu’s grabbing ceremony, you as her godmother can’t neglect her.”

”I’ll do my best,” In a year’s time, she should be back in the Capital City.

After Consort Le was helped away, Bai Ruozhu wasn’t in the mood to sit at the banquet and was thinking about how to go greet Jiang Yichun at the men’s table and then leave early.

Unexpectedly, she hadn’t walked far when a woman with a flushed face approached her.

She didn’t have much impression of this woman, but upon seeing her features clearly, she guessed the general situation.

Tong Madame and Tong Zhengye looked about sixty to seventy percent alike; people often say sons resemble their mothers, which was true in this case.

”Lady Bai,” Tong Madame curtsied politely, her attitude very respectful.

Bai Ruozhu returned the greeting indifferently; she didn’t like Tong Qian much and had little regard for Tong Madame, who spoiled her child to such an extent.

”I’m sorry to trouble you, Lady Bai, I’ve been wanting to find a chance to apologize to you, it’s my fault for not raising my child properly, causing you inconvenience,” Tong Madame said with her head lowered, her attitude sincere.

Bai Ruozhu’s expression slightly eased; Tong Madame’s attitude wasn’t feigned, which slightly reduced her aversion.

”It’s no matter, as long as she doesn’t continue as she is, or she will indeed stir up major trouble,” Bai Ruozhu said.

Tong Madame quickly agreed, thinking that she had indeed stirred up major trouble.

Tong Madame, as the matriarch, was neither ignorant nor arrogant, which is why she could apologize promptly rather than foolishly create trouble.

”Oh, who do we have here?” A sharp voice suddenly sounded, and a tall, burly woman quickly approached.

She was originally far away and nearly shouted toward them.

Bai Ruozhu frowned slightly; she recognized this woman, Ma Tongfang’s wife.

”Why is Lady Ma here?” Tong Madame, her face unhappy, greeted politely.

Madame Ma beamed with arrogance, ”You all can chat here, but I can’t happen to pass by? Lady Bai is now flourishing, and Tong Madame clings on so quickly?”

Bai Ruozhu glanced at her coolly, ”What’s it to you?”

Tong Madame widened her eyes in shock. This Lady Bai’s words were...

”What did you say, Bai Ruozhu?” Madame Ma glared.

”Can’t you hear? Didn’t I speak clearly enough for you?” Bai Ruozhu had no plans to show any courtesy to the Ma Family members, especially since Madame Ma was deliberately picking a fight.

”Don’t think that just because you went on an expedition once you’re something, Danliang isn’t your Bai Family’s,” Madame Ma spat her words with venom.

Bai Ruozhu snorted with laughter, ”Our Bai Family lacks deep roots, with only two officials serving in court, how can we compare with your Ma Family? But a reminder, Danliang isn’t your Ma Family’s either.”

Madame Ma’s face turned with various hues. She finally understood that Bai Ruozhu was indeed as rumored, not to be trifled with. But she had once followed Ma Tongfang through battles and stood on the battlefield, slaying enemies; she was fiercer than most women.

”How bold, do you think I dare not deal with you?” Madame Ma suddenly attacked, making Tong Madame jump, hastily raising a hand to block, ”Madame Ma, this is the Palace, don’t act recklessly.”

Madame Ma was in a temper and didn’t listen, delivering strike after strike. Tong Madame could only continue to fend them off, albeit quite diligently.

Bai Ruozhu hadn’t expected Tong Madame to know martial arts, much less that she would step in to help block Madame Ma, reducing her grudge against the Tong family slightly more.

”Stop it!” she said sternly, ”Madame Ma, just how foolish are you to attack me? Haven’t you heard I’m skilled with poisons? If you don’t want to die, you better leave!”

”How dare you! I’m a first-class lady by imperial decree; poison me, and your family will be executed,” Madame Ma paused, apparently wary.

Bai Ruozhu chuckled, ”Then let’s give it a try.”

”Go on and boast, I wonder how the Bai Family will stand in the Capital once you’ve left,” Madame Ma threw this remark over her shoulder as she turned and walked away, a triumphant smile on her face. She probably believed she’d effectively threatened Bai Ruozhu.
