Chapter 2767: Chapter 2768: Ancestor of the Merfolk

Xiaomaoqiu flew up, and Fo Lanying asked worriedly, ”Can it understand or clearly communicate?”

”It can’t speak human language, but it can communicate with my Divine Sense, no problem,” Bai Ruozhu said.

Unexpectedly, Bai Ruozhu soon felt a bit regretful. Xiaomaoqiu had flown to the top, then passed through the transparent barrier and quickly disappeared from sight.

”Is it not afraid of water?” the Astrologer asked.

”Afraid of water, indeed. Could it be there’s no water up there?” Bai Ruozhu frowned, wondering if they had been mistaken from the start, and the blue wasn’t actually seawater due to some other reason?

Soon, Bai Ruozhu lost contact with Xiaomaoqiu. This situation had happened before in the Golden Wings Clan, where Xiaomaoqiu delved far underground to investigate the poisonous insect under a tree, leading them to lose contact.

But Xiaomaoqiu was sensible; she decided to wait patiently.

Jiang Yichun patted her shoulder, ”Don’t worry, it’s not an ordinary poisonous insect.”

This time Bai Ruozhu looked up until her neck was sore and eventually decided to stay lying down and watch the sky.

She didn’t know how long had passed when suddenly something fell down, plopping onto her forehead.

”Xiaomaoqiu?” Bai Ruozhu quickly sat up. Xiaomaoqiu slipped from her forehead and fell into her palm.

But Xiaomaoqiu didn’t move, appearing to be asleep.

”What happened to it? Is it dead?” Yuan Licheng stupidly exclaimed.

Fo Lanying kicked him, ”Are you an idiot? If the poisonous insect dies, the owner will suffer a backlash.”

”It’s asleep, but how can a poisonous insect fall asleep?” Bai Ruozhu became worried, then suddenly thought of Quanxin and called it out, ”Is there a way to wake Xiaomaoqiu?”

Quanxin wobbled, looking reluctant.

”Hurry up, or else you won’t get anything good to eat!” Bai Ruozhu sternly said with a stern face.

Quanxin shed tears of grievance, and the droplets fell on Xiaomaoqiu, waking it up instantly.

Those weren’t Quanxin’s tears, but rather its condensed essence, which Xiaomaoqiu particularly liked to ingest.

After ingesting a drop of the essence, Xiaomaoqiu contentedly snuggled up to Bai Ruozhu’s shoulder and began to communicate with her.

Bai Ruozhu quickly showed signs of surprise. The others, anxious upon seeing this, didn’t want to interrupt her.

The singing overhead slowly diminished until it stopped entirely.

”Xiaomaoqiu said there’s a female Merfolk above, who has lived for a thousand years, the earliest of the Merfolk!” Bai Ruozhu began to speak, somewhat excited.

As it turned out, Xiaomaoqiu encountered a female Merfolk above, but her appearance was strange, with ears like fish fins, making her resemble fish more than the current Merfolk do.

The female Merfolk seemed unable to see Xiaomaoqiu, yet she was indeed alive. Xiaomaoqiu, feeling curious, wanted to get closer but unexpectedly entered the female Merfolk’s memories.

Back then, the female Merfolk was a slave to the Jiuli Clan people, but the Jiuli didn’t like the ocean and wanted to live on the mainland, so they let the Merfolk return to the sea, also allowing the Golden Wings Clan to find an island life on the ocean.

The female Merfolk felt heartbroken, thinking she was abandoned due to being useless, and she began to ponder ways to become human-like with legs.

In the sea, she befriended a Xuan Gui. The Xuan Gui, seeing her constantly melancholic, offered to help and gave her turtle blood to drink. The female Merfolk indeed grew legs and happily went ashore to seek her master, quickly forgetting about her Xuan Gui friend.

She probably lacked a sense of direction innately and ended up in Fusang instead of Zhongyuan.

Disguised as a man, she inadvertently used her Merfolk abilities, and many people worshipped her as a deity.

Yet she couldn’t find her master, becoming deeply saddened until one day, a man suggested she become the Emperor. That way, she would have many subordinates to help her in the search.

Thus, the female Merfolk established the Fusang Country, even naming it after her fondness for Fusang Flowers.

The one who offered advice eventually became a General and had relations with the female Merfolk, birthing a first child together.

But she couldn’t forget her master, deeply loving that Jiuli person. Hence, she left Fusang.

However, she didn’t reach Zhongyuan again. Instead, she got captured in the sea by the Xuan Gui.

The Xuan Gui, having bled for her, had depleted half of its cultivation base, but she quickly forgot about it. The Xuan Gui, though hating her, couldn’t bear to kill her.

So, the Xuan Gui imprisoned her and tormented her every night until she became pregnant again, giving birth to a second child.

This child, of Merfolk and Xuan Gui blood, ended up looking like a Xuan Gui.

The Xuan Gui regretted its actions and wished to cease the torment, hoping the three of them could live well together. But somehow, the General brought the child he had with the female Merfolk and a group of Yin Yang Masters, tracking them down in the sea, injuring the Xuan Gui, and capturing its child.

Due to this event, the female Merfolk lost her sanity, stopped speaking altogether, and only sang at regular intervals.

The Xuan Gui tried all means to find its child, but leaving the sea wasn’t its battlefield, and the cunning Yin Yang Masters had hidden the young Xuan Gui, making it unknown.

The search went on for ten years with no results, and the Xuan Gui, blinded by hatred, filled the sea by capturing Sea Demons to construct this Palace. It imprisoned the female Merfolk at the top, so any Merfolk approaching the vicinity would hear her songs and lose their minds, ultimately committing suicide here.

The Xuan Gui wanted all Merfolk descendants to perish, but there still ended up being many Merfolk. The female Merfolk’s eldest son and a human woman birthed many children. He established the Gold Palace with children evidently bearing Merfolk traits, becoming the initial Merfolk group.

Over the thousand years, Merfolk have indeed been lured to the Gold Palace, unable to resist the ancestor Merfolk’s song, ultimately dying here.

Yet the Merfolk reproduced much more robustly than the Xuan Gui, and the Xuan Gui’s son was eventually controlled by the Merfolk, becoming a tool to carry them.

If the Xuan Gui knew the future would unfold like this when it died, would it still have trapped the female Merfolk here?

The Xuan Gui, with its exceedingly long lifespan and Turtle Elixir maintaining vitality, had given its Turtle Elixir to the female Merfolk.

The Xuan Gui told the female Merfolk it wanted her undying, continuously harming her descendants, allowing her to live forever in pain.

But whether this was true or if he couldn’t admit his love for her, remains unknown.

After Bai Ruozhu finished recounting these events, everyone fell silent, the heavy story making it somewhat difficult to breathe. The female Merfolk had been foolish, why incessantly search for someone who let go of her?

The Xuan Gui had been too obsessive, perhaps the female Merfolk had already loved him; they could have lived well together, yet ended up like this.

As for the General who established Fusang Country, though scheming, was obsessed with love, making it hard to determine right from wrong.

”Unexpectedly, things turned out this way. How do we leave then?” Fo Lanying asked.
