Chapter 2770: Chapter 2771: Character Determines Fate

Because of the connection over the years, and also because of that intoxicating night, the merfolk girl could never forget her young master and never hated him.

This is the part that Xiaomao did not manage to see, and Bai Ruozhu thus understood why the ancestor of the merfolk was so fixated on her master. It turns out there was this part of the story, and the person behind the schemes against the young man was really both insidious and despicable.

She is a descendant of the Jiuli, and that young man was her ancestor. Perhaps it is because of this that she was able to see these contents.

Her ancestor and Achun’s ancestor were both harmed by that person behind the scenes, separated for life. It is truly regrettable.

Next comes the merfolk girl singing in the sea, attracting the Xuan Gui. The Xuan Gui was almost identical to the one Bai Ruozhu had seen, but soon after, the Xuan Gui could transform and surprisingly became human-like, only always wearing a green vest, claiming it was formed from his turtle shell, looking somewhat amusing.

Xuan Gui was an optimistic and enthusiastic young man, or perhaps a lovable joker, always able to make the merfolk girl laugh, and he would invite her to play in his undersea cave residence.

During her most painful and darkest days, he always accompanied her and was her best friend.

Yet while she trusted him, the one she loved deeply was still her master.

What happened afterward Bai Ruozhu already knew. He gave the merfolk girl his turtle blood, sacrificing half of his life, while the merfolk girl cheerfully went ashore to find her master.

However, the merfolk girl didn’t just leave without a word. She left a letter saying if she didn’t return in two years, Xuan Gui, should he still remember her, should come to find her.

She carried his blood, and he could sense her location.

Unfortunately, that letter was eaten by a greedy shark monster, and Xuan Gui never saw it.

Therefore, in the ensuing years, the merfolk girl never found her master, nor did she await the most trusted Xuan Gui, whom she always longed for.

Xuan Gui felt she had betrayed him and forgot him. Meanwhile, she also felt Xuan Gui forgot about her and no longer needed her.

Following this, the merfolk girl masqueraded as a man and was discovered by the General. The General desired her and used drugs against her.

As if she saw her young master, she called out to the master and ended up having relations with the General. Upon awakening, she regretted deeply, and since the General couldn’t win her heart, he resented the young master she kept calling emotionally.

Later, the female merfolk unfortunately conceived, and she could only give birth to the child. Originally, the child softened her heart, but she stumbled upon the General reveling with other women, and she left Fusang disappointed.

What followed was Xuan Gui’s hatred, constant revenge against her, making her realize the misunderstanding between her and Xuan Gui. She lamented why she didn’t clarify things face-to-face with Xuan Gui, leaving a note instead.

In her heart, she had actually fallen in love with Xuan Gui. She willingly endured his torment as if repaying a debt, while in Xuan Gui’s heart, he still loved her dearly; saying it was torment was merely an excuse to be closer to her.

Later, she gave birth to a little Xuan Gui, and Xuan Gui completely let go of his grudges, restoring the sunny youth’s demeanor he once had.

But alas, the heavens didn’t favor them, the General brought Yin Yang Masters along. Initially, they were no match for Xuan Gui, but in the chaos, the female merfolk injured Xuan Gui while rescuing her eldest son out of fear he would die there.

As a result, little Xuan Gui was captured by the Yin Yang Masters, reigniting Xuan Gui’s hatred for her.

After a long while, Bai Ruozhu emerged from these memories, her face already wet with tears.

The emotions of the ancestor of the merfolk had influenced her, never expecting the story to be so intricate.

But character determines fate, if her character were a bit more strong-willed, a bit more courageous, perhaps the story wouldn’t have turned out this way.

For example, questioning her master why he abandoned her after their night of passion and drove her away would clear the misunderstanding, wouldn’t it? The female merfolk and Jiuli Clan’s ancestor could have led a happy life, couldn’t they?

If she had directly spoken to Xuan Gui, or been more clear in her attitude, things wouldn’t have ended up like this.

At least, if it were Bai Ruozhu herself, she wouldn’t act like the female merfolk.

”Do you truly think so?” Suddenly the merfolk song stopped, and the female merfolk spoke; her voice desolate, making listeners’ hearts tremble.

Bai Ruozhu was attracted by those bright blue eyes, finally seeing her face clearly, just like Xiaomao described, her ears resembled fish fins, very beautiful, yet more fish-like.

Her posture was graceful, the blue fish tail gently swaying, truly puzzling how her child came to be born.

”You know what I’m thinking?” Bai Ruozhu asked.

”I’ve lived for a very, very long time, how could I not know?” the ancestor of the merfolk replied.

”Then with your mind intact, why do you stay here?” Bai Ruozhu couldn’t help but ask.

The ancestor of the merfolk chuckled, ”I’m waiting for him to return.”

”Xuan Gui?” Bai Ruozhu asked.

”This is our home, of course, I’m waiting for him,” the ancestor of the merfolk said.

Bai Ruozhu felt puzzled, ”Xuan Gui is already dead, hasn’t singing here harmed many merfolk? They’re your descendants, are you truly okay with that?”

The ancestor of the merfolk showed an expression of surprise, ”I didn’t know about the outside situation, besides you all, no one has come here in ages, how could I harm my descendants?”

”Xuan Gui hated you, that’s why he built this palace; your memory also speaks of him saying such things.” Bai Ruozhu felt a bit confused, but the ancestor of the merfolk seemed sincere.

”I didn’t know, not knowing means no pain, I guess.” As the ancestor of the merfolk spoke, tears fell, turning into pearls that shattered upon hitting the ground.

This should be the legendary merfolk tears, although she might be different, as merfolk of this era aren’t pure-blooded anymore.

”How could he do this to me, why hasn’t he come back?” the female merfolk cried loudly.

Bai Ruozhu understood, she was mentally distraught, remembered unpleasant things, and was aware of waiting, but didn’t know what was happening outside, nor did she want to think too much; thinking brought intense sorrow.

Sure enough, she resumed singing the mournful merfolk song.

”Do you know the way out?” Bai Ruozhu asked.

The ancestor of the merfolk continued singing, ignoring her.

She could only wait patiently, and when her mood stabilized slightly, she asked again: ”Do you know how to get out?”

”I don’t know, I don’t want to leave, I’m waiting for him,” the ancestor of the merfolk stubbornly said.

”I’m not asking you to leave, help us find a way, if there is no exit, if Xuan Gui reincarnates, how will he come here?” Bai Ruozhu asked.

”From the place you entered,” the ancestor of the merfolk replied.

Hey, she wasn’t foolish.

”But if he doesn’t recover his memory and can’t find this place, don’t you want someone to go out and find him, and let him know?” Bai Ruozhu tentatively asked.

The ancestor of the merfolk’s expression indeed changed, ”You can find him? Do you think I’m too passive, not proactive enough, leading to so many misunderstandings?”
