Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 2626: Chapter 2627: Who Will Have the Last Laugh

”Oh, I’m sorry to bother you.” Bai Ruozhu felt disappointed, politely said a few words, and prepared to leave.

Unexpectedly, Jiang Yichun grabbed her hand and gave her a look, Bai Ruozhu followed his gaze and noticed an old lady sitting a bit further inside, washing dishes. At the moment, her head was lowered, her shoulders tense, seemingly very nervous.

Bai Ruozhu couldn’t see her expression, but Jiang Yichun certainly did; this old lady seemed to know something!

She approached the old lady and, speaking in Fusang Language, said, ”Whose family doesn’t have a daughter? A good girl just disappears like that, her parents must be frantic. Anyone with children cannot bear to see such a thing.”

The old lady’s hand slipped, and the bowl she was holding fell with a crash into the basin below, hitting the other bowls inside, making a sharp clattering sound.

The old man was startled, looking at the old lady, asked, ”Old partner, what’s wrong with you?”

They were an elderly couple and understood each other well. The old man quickly realized why and looked at the old lady and then at Bai Ruozhu, saying quietly, ”Do you know something? If so, maybe you should tell them.”

The old lady was still hesitant, murmuring, ”What if it brings trouble? Our old bodies can’t withstand it.”

The old man felt a chill in his heart and said nothing more.

Bai Ruozhu didn’t press her; the old lady had her considerations. People wanting to protect themselves is normal, not selfish.

She pulled Jiang Yichun’s hand and said, ”It seems no one here knows anything either, let’s go and ask somewhere else.”

The old lady breathed a sigh of relief and saw Bai Ruozhu and the others walk away, she sighed and her heart felt particularly heavy.

So, the old lady made an excuse of feeling unwell and went home first.

As soon as she turned into one side of the alley, she saw that pair of young people, looking like Immortals, standing ahead.

”Mother-in-law, there’s no one here. You can tell us; no one will know,” Bai Ruozhu said softly.

The old lady was a little frightened, hurriedly looked around to confirm no one was there, she then sighed and said softly, ”My old man sets up a stall at night, but during the day, I also sell some tofu. I just happened to walk to the other side of the street corner and saw those two girls you mentioned.”

The old lady casually told what she saw and then said, ”Those government soldiers said they were taking them to prison, but I also think they didn’t do anything wrong, just got bumped into by others. Isn’t this wronging people? Why don’t you go and check with the Government Office?”

Bai Ruozhu thought it couldn’t be the Government Office’s matter and, recalling the old lady saying that the woman who quarreled with Yaxi and the others, described Hui Zi’s appearance, and the old lady kept nodding, ”Yes, that’s right, but that woman looked quite fierce.”

”Oh!” The old lady suddenly exclaimed, ”It was that round-eyed girl who said, ’Hui Zi, how dare you go out?’”

”It is indeed her.” Bai Ruozhu squinted her eyes, ”Thank you, Mother-in-law, please hurry home.”

”Yes, you should hurry to save those two girls; they are so pitiful.” The old lady kindly said.

After the old lady left, Bai Ruozhu and Jiang Yichun hurried back to the posthouse, the two had a brief discussion. The Government Office couldn’t possibly help Hui Zi arrest people; it was either Anben fleeing Kyoto or General Chisong.

”I don’t think it’s Anben; he’s badly injured and can’t come back so soon. Even if he does, he will surely try something big, not just arrest two Noble Ladies. As for soldiers being dispatched, it is very likely General Chisong’s private army.” Bai Ruozhu said.

”People are likely in Chisong Residence, should we barge in to rescue them?” Jiang Yichun asked Bai Ruozhu for her opinion, if his wife called the shots, he would definitely rush in.

Bai Ruozhu thought for a moment, ”Let’s have someone find out the news first, for instance, Xinye.”

Jiang Yichun’s face darkened as soon as he heard this, ”We can send our own people; no need to trouble him, I don’t want you to owe him a favor.”

Bai Ruozhu glared at him and said, ”I once put his broken leg back together; it’s him who owes me a favor. It can just be repaid this time to clear the slate.”

”Last time, he warned us in the Palace, we’ve already cleared the slate,” Jiang Yichun said disapprovingly.

Bai Ruozhu also felt annoyed, ”Forget it, forget it, we won’t bother anyone else then, I’ll find out the news myself!”

Saying that she was about to walk out, Jiang Yichun hurriedly followed, ”Take more people along, it’ll be better if there’s help when there’s a fight.”

Bai Ruozhu was not impulsive, she took deep breaths and finally calmed her anger. Her man was good in every aspect, just this jealousy was troublesome.

Immediately, they called Yuan Licheng, Fo Lanying, Jianqi, Qiu Zhi, and Tang Feng to leave, heading straight for General Chisong’s mansion.

At this moment, in the dungeon, Fangzi and Yaxi were shivering, leaning together. It was cold at night, the dungeon was damp, they didn’t even have bedding but were locked on some straw.

On the other hand, there was also a maid’s head beside them, how could they not be afraid.

This was when footsteps sounded outside, both of them shivered, fearing what scary things might be sent in again.

”Are you cold, hungry?” Hui Zi’s voice sounded, carrying a heavy tone of mockery.

The two were afraid, and suddenly became angrily red-eyed, Yaxi rushed over, reaching through the cell to hit Hui Zi, furiously cursing, ”Even if you target me, you dared to kill my maid. You will meet a bad end!”

Hui Zi stepped back two steps, avoiding Yaxi’s hand, spoke in a strange tone, ”You will be the ones to die first, let’s see if your ending will be good.”

After speaking, she laughed quietly, ”Should I scar your face before killing you, or chop off your limbs and put you into a jar first?”

Fangzi got up, glaring at her, ”Even if I die, as a ghost, I won’t let you go!”

”Who are you threatening? Even if you turn into a Vicious Ghost, I can make your soul scatter. Explaining to fight with me, will you be the last one laughing?” Hui Zi said, suddenly raising her hand. A dark thing appeared in her palm, and suddenly that thing flew up, rushing towards Yaxi in the cell.

”Let my treasure play with you; if you obediently listen, you won’t have to suffer here, but if you act ungratefully, don’t blame me for being ruthless.”

Fangzi and Yaxi were terribly regretful, both terrified, thinking what is this? Could it be the rumored Poisonous Insect?

Being touched by it meant control over all your movements?

Just saw the black Poisonous Insect fly towards both of them but suddenly stopped, dropped onto the maid’s head.

Both were terrified, covered their mouths and watched as the Poisonous Insect drilled into one of the maid’s eyes, quickly made its way out of the other eye, and the head rapidly dried up and rotted, shrunken beyond recognition.

Fangzi and Yaxi screamed again, their screams reaching outside the prison cell...
