Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 1239: Chapter 1241 I Will Not Forgive You_1

Meng Hanhong’s eyes were somewhat red, and it was hard to tell whether it was from the drink or from his unstable emotions.

Bai Ruozhu looked up at him. In the few months they hadn’t seen each other, he had shot up in height and was now a head taller than her; she had to look up to see his face. Considering Meng Liangshen’s build, it was no surprise that Meng Hanhong would grow tall.

”Big brother, what’s the matter?” Meng Jinse got a fright and instinctively shielded Bai Ruozhu, as if she already knew what Meng Hanhong was about to do.

”I just want to talk to her alone; you go ahead first,” Meng Hanhong spoke with a note of impoliteness, even adopting the authority of an elder brother.

Meng Jinse wanted to say more, but Bai Ruozhu tugged at her sleeve and said, ”It’s okay, you guys go ahead and wait for me. Hanhong is also my brother; I’ll hear what he has to say.”

If her skills were so poor that she couldn’t even handle Meng Hanhong, then she might as well go hide in a hole.

Meng Jinse’s face was full of worry, but eventually, it was Meng Jinxia who drew her away.

”Let Sister Ruozhu handle it,” Meng Jinxia whispered persuasively.

”What do you know? Big brother always had a thorn in his heart. He’s always believed it was Sister Ruozhu who killed our mother. I’m afraid...” Meng Jinse stopped, worried the two behind would hear her although she spoke in a low voice.

”Maybe Sister Ruozhu can resolve big brother’s grudge; let’s wait and see,” Meng Jinxia was, at this moment, much calmer than Meng Jinse.

They say worry creates confusion. Meng Jinse took a deep breath, realizing she was perhaps too nervous.

Meng Hanhong watched the two sisters walk away, then his gaze landed back on Bai Ruozhu’s face, his eyes now exceptionally cold, scrutinizing, as if trying to see right through her.

”Now that no one’s around, tell me the truth, did you kill my mother?” Meng Hanhong suddenly asked.

Bai Ruozhu narrowed her eyes, ”I was miles away from her; do you think I’m a god?”

”I just want an answer. Even if you tell the truth, I won’t tell grandma or my sisters,” his face showed a flash of pain, ”I don’t want to make them sad.”

Bai Ruozhu felt a stab of pain in her heart. The Meng Family had been kind to her, and she didn’t want to cause them sorrow, but Wang Miaoshuang couldn’t be spared. From the moment Wang Miaoshuang tried to kill her second brother, almost severing her from him forever, she decided she could never forgive Wang Miaoshuang; otherwise, who knew who might bleed next.

There wasn’t a deep-seated hatred between her and Wang Miaoshuang initially; Wang Miaoshuang began hating her due to a misunderstanding, thinking she had an affair with Meng Liangshen. But even after the misunderstanding was cleared up, Wang Miaoshuang clung to her fiercely, like a rabid dog, even attempting to harm her family.

Meng Hanhong took a deep breath, tilting his head slightly as if to prevent tears from spilling.

”I found out everything. My mother bribed a killer from Qisha Pavilion to shoot your second brother, and he was nearly killed. Knowing your temperament, I don’t believe you would just let it go!”

The images from that day resurfaced in Bai Ruozhu’s mind, her gaze growing cold, ”Do grandma and Jinse know about this? Did you tell them?”

Meng Hanhong’s face suddenly contorted with pain, ”No, how can I tell them? Should I say that my mother is a venomous woman, huh?” By the end, he had raised his voice into a yell, alarming Meng Jinxia and Meng Jinse, who could not make out the specifics but were startled nonetheless.

Bai Ruozhu sneered despite herself, ”Even you think she’s a venomous woman, right? So what are you doing stopping me now?”

”But no matter what, she’s still my mother, the one who gave birth to me and raised me. I’m just asking you plainly, was it you?” Meng Hanhong roared again.

”I won’t answer you. If you think it was me, feel free to come for revenge. I am ready to face it.” Bai Ruozhu said, tossing her sleeves and preparing to leave.

Meng Hanhong glared at her and gritted out the words from between his teeth, ”You don’t need to answer; I already know. I’ll never forgive you in my lifetime!”

Bai Ruozhu took a deep breath, quickening her pace. She wasn’t particularly close to Meng Hanhong, but she felt somewhat stifled at this moment. If he would not forgive her, so be it. She couldn’t guarantee that everyone would like her, not hate her. All she wanted was to protect her loved ones and friends.

Upon seeing her approach, Meng Jinse hurried to meet her and apologized, saying that Meng Hanhong must have been drunk and asked her not to take it to heart. Bai Ruozhu shook her head, thinking that Meng Jinse was indeed a good girl; if it had been Meng Jinse who questioned her today, she would have been extremely pained.

To avoid bringing up these upsetting matters, Meng Jinxia steered the conversation towards Meng Jinse’s ongoing marriage negotiations.

”Grandmother can’t bear to part with eldest sister, so she’s looking for a good family to marry her within Beiyu City. She doesn’t want her to marry far away to the Capital City.”

Meng Jinse blushed, ”I can’t bear to leave you all either, so it’s better to marry someone nearby.”

Bai Ruozhu nodded in agreement. The Meng Family truly cherished their daughter; unlike many families, who would rather marry their daughters into noble households in the Capital City for family alliances. It seemed that there might be no higher match than the Meng Family in Beiyu City, but they instead preferred to find a truly caring family for their daughter—a rarity among aristocratic households.

”Then I congratulate my sister in advance on finding the perfect bridegroom, one who will cherish you and marry into a good family,” Bai Ruozhu said with a smile.

At these words, Meng Jinse’s cheeks turned even redder, ”Stop teasing me. I haven’t reached marriageable age yet; there’s no hurry.”

”But you’ll have your coming-of-age ceremony this year, right? It’s a pity I probably won’t be able to attend,” Bai Ruozhu lamented.

Meng Jinse looked a bit disheartened upon hearing this. ”It will be even harder to see each other in the future.”

Yes, Bai Ruozhu was in the Capital City, and the Meng Family was in Beiyu City—it really was quite far apart.

Later, Bai Ruozhu followed the Meng sisters to the guest room they had prepared for her. Everything seemed fine, and she didn’t need anything. The two sisters chatted with her for a while before standing up to say their goodbyes, not wanting to disturb her rest.

Shortly after the two had left, Jianqi came to report that the Master had returned.

Bai Ruozhu went out to greet him, and saw Jiang Yichun stumbling forward, supported by his attendants. She quickly stepped forward to help, ”You’ve all been busy for the entire day; go and rest. I can take care of him.”

Jiang Yichun, however, waved his hand dismissively, slurring his words, ”I’m not drunk; I don’t need anyone to take care of me! Ruozhu, a single night in spring is worth a thousand pieces of gold. Come, let’s go to the bridal chamber!”

Bai Ruozhu’s face instantly flushed to her ears, while Lightning and Morning Wind struggled to hold back their laughter. Muyu simply burst out laughing outright. Only Jianqi remained serious, but even he turned his head away.

She glared at Jiang Yichun, infuriated at his careless talk while drunk. They weren’t even married, what bridal chamber was he talking about?

But when she glared at him, Jiang Yichun even threw her a coquettish look, chuckling, ”Wife, you’re staring at me so intently again, careful not to drool later...”
