Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 1201: Chapter 1203 Confrontation before the Saint_1

”Whether it’s unreasonable argumentation or not, just have the Imperial Doctor come to treat Grandpa’s illness,” Bai Ruozhu said indifferently.

At this moment, Elder Jiang Ge spoke up, pointing at Bai Ruozhu, ”You, a woman of low status with a vicious heart, claim to heal me on the surface, but actually, you just want to anger me to death. You even instigated my grandson to force medicine on me, showing me no respect. Today, I must have the Emperor punish you for your crimes.”

Bai Ruozhu laughed, ”Now you admit he’s your grandson? Moreover, you seem to be full of energy today. Weren’t you bedridden for many days before? Since your health has improved, can’t you understand our good intentions?”

”What good intentions? You just want to kill me!” Elder Jiang Ge was especially agitated as he spoke, but this time he really didn’t cough as he had when Bai Ruozhu and Jiang Yichun first returned to the Jiang Residence. Pointing at Bai Ruozhu, his eyes were slightly red as he said, ”My life’s reputation is about to be ruined by you. You deliberately demolished the thatched cottage I lived in for decades, almost causing me to faint from anger. You must be hoping to anger me to death directly, aren’t you?”

”Grandpa, are you prejudiced against me? Don’t forget, who has been treating your illness these past days? When you fainted, who woke you up? If I wanted to harm you, why would I go through so much trouble? With your illness recurring like this, you certainly wouldn’t live more than half a year. If I wanted to harm you, I would just watch as you remained ill,” Bai Ruozhu felt amused. She truly didn’t wish for Elder Jiang Ge’s death, just like with the old master of the Bai Family. Although she found such men bothersome, their death would also be troublesome. You would have to observe mourning for them, right? Otherwise, the law could punish you for your crime.

”Your Majesty!” The Virtuous King called out from the side, ”Did you hear that? This woman can’t stop cursing Elder Jiang Ge!”

This time, Jiang Yichun couldn’t hold back and spoke up, ”Ruozhu is a doctor, she was only speaking the blunt truth from a medical perspective. Is it cursing now when a doctor tells the truth? Elder Jiang Ge might be senile and avoiding medical advice, but the Virtuous King shouldn’t be confused, should he?”

”You’re seeking death!” The Virtuous King, furious, roared and rushed over, grabbing Jiang Yichun by the collar.

”Enough!” the Emperor said in a low voice, ”You come to me for judgment, and before I’ve even spoken, you’ve started quarreling. Do you have no respect for me?”

Bai Ruozhu took a step back, bowed, and lowered her head to show respect for the Emperor. The Virtuous King, disgruntled, could only let go and move back to his original position.

At this time, Wang Shun announced that the Imperial Doctors had arrived.

”Bring them in, have them diagnose Elder Jiang Ge,” the Emperor said with a somewhat unexpected tone, as the previous noise was really too much.

The three Imperial Doctors, not familiar with Jiu Sheng like Bai Ruozhu was, seemed to know to avoid impropriety. They took turns diagnosing Elder Jiang Ge and discussed among themselves for a moment. Then, the leading Imperial Doctor stepped forward to bow and said to the Emperor, ”Your Majesty, Elder Jiang Ge has caught a cold, but it’s not a serious illness. A few doses of medicine will do the trick.”

The Virtuous King’s eyebrows shot up, ”There’s no risk to his life in half a year?”

The Imperial Doctor seemed surprised, ”If treated properly, how could a common cold be life-threatening?”

Looking complacent, the Virtuous King said to the Emperor, ”Your Majesty, did you hear that? Elder Jiang Ge has no serious illness—then Bai Family is simply alarmist, deliberately casting a curse on Elder Jiang Ge.”

The Emperor looked at Bai Ruozhu, ”Bai Family, how do you explain yourself?”

Without haste, Bai Ruozhu responded, ”Your Majesty, allow your servant’s wife to ask the Imperial Doctors a few questions.”

The Emperor let out a soft grunt of approval.

”Have any of the three Imperial Doctors treated Elder Jiang Ge previously? Or rather, has Elder Jiang Ge been seen by an Imperial Doctor before, with records at the Imperial Medical Bureau?”

An elderly Imperial Doctor spoke up, ”I specialize in treating colds, and last month, I prescribed some Formulas for Elder Jiang Ge, which were also recorded in the Bureau.”

”Then senior should know that Elder Jiang Ge’s condition has been recurring, to the extent that he has even been unable to attend the morning court recently, and has been resting at home, right? If it were a cold that could be cured with just a few doses of medicine, why has it not healed over time?” Bai Ruozhu inquired.

The head Imperial Doctor’s face showed some embarrassment, probably feeling questioned, and he quickly said, ”That’s because Elder Jiang Ge is advanced in years, frail, and in this severe cold, his condition is prone to recur.”

Bai Ruozhu didn’t pick up on his response but instead asked the previous elderly Imperial Doctor, ”Senior, upon feeling his pulse today, do you find that Elder Jiang Ge’s condition has improved somewhat compared to before?”

The elderly Imperial Doctor thought for a moment, then nodded and said, ”Indeed, it seems that it was right for Elder Jiang Ge to rest at home.”

The Virtuous King was already impatient at this point and glared at Bai Ruozhu, saying, ”Bai Family, what’s the purpose of asking these pointless questions? Or are you trying to cover up your own guilt?”

Bai Ruozhu ignored him and said to the three Imperial Doctors, ”Elder Jiang Ge indeed suffers from an ordinary cold, and your diagnosis was not wrong. It also truly is an ailment that can be cured with a few doses of medicine. Likewise, the recurrence due to the cold is also true. Therefore, I dismantled his Thatched Cottage and rebuilt it, planning to install floor heating so that next winter, he will not easily catch a cold again. What’s wrong with moving him to a warm room sheltered from the wind? For someone his age, catching a cold like this, is it suitable for him to live in a drafty Thatched Cottage?”

The head Imperial Doctor slapped his head, ”Now that explains why Elder Jiang Ge’s illness has been recurring. It turns out his living quarters were too simple; this is indeed not good. Over time, it’s not just about catching a cold; he might even develop rheumatic pain.”

The old Imperial Doctor who had treated Elder Jiang Ge also said, ”Right, he should live in a warm room sheltered from the wind and keep a fire pot burning. The elderly cannot endure the cold.”

Elder Jiang Ge was so angry that his face turned red, and he shouted at the three doctors, ”Do you have any brains, taking her word for everything? I have lived a life of integrity, and I have been accustomed to living in a Thatched Cottage for decades. Why would I be afraid of a little cold?”

Bai Ruozhu spoke dispassionately, ”Time spares no one. You had no problems living there when you were younger, but you’re turning sixty this year.”

Elder Jiang Ge, gasping heavily out of anger, was helped by the Virtuous King to catch his breath, who then glared at Bai Ruozhu and said, ”Even if that is the case, it does not give you the right to just demolish Elder Jiang Ge’s Thatched Cottage. I think you are trying to anger him, aren’t you?”

”I heard His Highness was once Grandpa’s student, always showing great respect for him. Would a student not wish for their Teacher’s good health and longevity? Grandpa has grown stubborn with age, but for the sake of his health, and his swift recovery, he definitely cannot continue living in the Thatched Cottage. Is it unfilial for my husband and me to spend money and effort to rebuild his house? Is watching an elderly person get sick and not preventing them from neglecting their health a sign of filial piety?” Bai Ruozhu said, shaking her head, ”Filial piety is not about blind obedience, and indeed, Grandpa’s health has been improving.”

The three Imperial Doctors also nodded in agreement. Elder Jiang Ge, an old patient, indeed did not cooperate with them, and if his condition were to recur, wouldn’t that make their assertion of ”a few doses of medicine would suffice” a misdiagnosis?

Wang Shun saw the changing expressions on the Virtuous King’s face and purposely offered a way out, ”Yes, we all have Elder Jiang Ge’s health in mind, and it’s good as long as everything is clarified. Now that Elder Jiang Ge’s health is improving, isn’t that cause for celebration?”
