Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 1211: Chapter 1213: Each Move is Interconnected_1

”My mother had no way to take care of Diao Yao, so she sent her to the Bihai Sect. Later, she found out that the person who had poisoned her was the Empress of Danliang Country at that time, and the Former Emperor at that time didn’t really care about Diao Yao’s life or death. In a rage, my mother cast the Witch King’s Curse. Afterward, she too fell into a poisoned coma, and it was only because my Master found a rare treasure to protect her Heart Meridian that her life was temporarily saved.”

”But her condition has been deteriorating over the past two years and she might not last much longer. That’s why I took the risk to expose myself to the poison and even foolishly hoped to find an Antidote in the Capital City...”

Chu Hai regretfully grabbed his own hair, ”I didn’t even try to prevent Diao Yao from becoming friends with the Princess, hoping that I might have a chance to obtain the Reincarnation Antidote from her. Little did I expect that I would drag Diao Yao into this mess.”

”Are you saying the Empress Dowager was the one who poisoned your mother?” Bai Ruozhu asked in surprise, ”That’s impossible. How could she do such a thing with her personality? And if she did poison your mother, she would definitely know of Diao Yao’s existence!”

”I’ve also heard that the Danliang Empress Dowager is kind, but appearances can be deceiving. Can someone who survives in such a place as the palace and stays on top really be gentle and kindhearted?” Chu Hai asked.

Bai Ruozhu involuntarily took a half step back, her body swaying slightly. Impossible, she had met with the Empress Dowager several times; the Empress Dowager was not that kind of person. She had also wondered how someone with the Empress Dowager’s temperament could survive in the palace, but that was because the Former Emperor loved and protected her.

For a moment, Bai Ruozhu’s heart was in turmoil, and she also didn’t know what kind of person the Empress Dowager truly was. Although the Empress Dowager had always been good to her and never harmed her, what if someone’s disguise was perfect and had been deceiving you all along? Would you not be scared at all once you found out?

”Maybe someone else interfered, maybe the one who poisoned your mother wasn’t the Empress Dowager?” Bai Ruozhu said hastily, her heart full of doubts and fear, but she still couldn’t believe the Empress Dowager was the hidden boss.

At that moment, Jiang Yichun walked into the room and said to Chu Hai, ”There’s no need to doubt anymore, it definitely wasn’t the Empress Dowager.”

Bai Ruozhu quickly looked at Jiang Yichun, wondering why he was so certain.

Jiang Yichun looked at Bai Ruozhu and said, ”You know I used to work at the Office of Scrutiny. I am quite familiar with some matters in the Palace.”

Bai Ruozhu realized that Jiang Yichun mentioned the Office of Scrutiny for Chu Hai’s benefit, but really he was hinting to her that he had many eyes in the Palace. She had been too shocked just now, thrown off balance, but upon reflection, if the Empress Dowager were truly a hidden villain, how could Yichun have not noticed at all and not warned her?

She breathed a sigh of relief; she quite liked the Empress Dowager and didn’t want her to be that kind of dreadful person.

”There must have been someone interfering back then, likely tied to the people in the Western Regions. Without the scheming of the Western Region’s Nobility, the Former Emperor and Empress Dowager’s people wouldn’t have been able to eliminate your family so easily. Moreover, the person who captured Diao Yao this time is probably related to what happened back then. They captured Diao Yao probably for fear that the truth would come out,” Jiang Yichun added.

Bai Ruozhu nodded eagerly, ”Achun is right. Don’t forget there’s another hidden player. And who exactly was the one who framed the Former Emperor and your mother back then? These are clearly one setup after another.”

Seeing that Jiang Yichun already knew almost everything, Chu Hai couldn’t keep hiding the truth and said somewhat helplessly, ”My mother instructed me not to think of revenge, only to take good care of Diao Yao. I never thought about revenge, only about saving my mother. But if it means harming Diao Yao, my mother wouldn’t accept it.”

Seeing him like this, Bai Ruozhu also felt deeply sympathetic and patted his shoulder, saying, ”Don’t worry, everything will come to light eventually. Diao Yao should be safe soon.”

Jiang Yichun glanced at Bai Ruozhu’s hand and his face suddenly lengthened. He stepped forward and took Bai Ruozhu’s hand back, saying, ”All right, it’s time to enter the Palace.”

The corner of Bai Ruozhu’s mouth twitched, feeling her wrist being squeezed tightly by him, and she inwardly cursed her luck, thinking to herself that she had just patted a friend on the shoulder in passing and had already upset the vinegar jar.

In modern times, patting someone on the shoulder is a common occurrence; she had simply forgotten for a moment.

Indeed, Jiang Yichun pulled her away, his whole body radiating a cold air, and Bai Ruozhu could only say with a face-licking plea, ”Alright, let go of my hand quickly, you’ve squeezed it red now.”

Jiang Yichun stopped, glaring at her fiercely, and said, ”Have you been feeling particularly itchy lately?”

At that moment, Bai Ruozhu had already withdrawn her hand. Wow, in just a few days his arrogance had grown, daring to be so bold with her?

Just as she was about to speak, she felt the collar of her neck tighten, and suddenly she was left hanging in the air, being dangled by the back of her neck, her limbs flailing like a turtle...

The last time he had dangled her like this was before they’d made their relationship official, and it had really infuriated her back then.

”Jiang Yichun!” Bai Ruozhu roared like a lioness, swinging her hand towards the hand Jiang Yichun had on her nape, no longer the unarmed village woman she used to be!

Jiang Yichun’s other hand easily blocked all of Bai Ruozhu’s attacks. Her arms weren’t as long as his; after flailing in vain, she ended up just struggling in the air, truly resembling a turtle hung up to dry.

After a long struggle, Bai Ruozhu grew tired. She had to admit she was no match for him, so she rolled her eyes, suddenly stopped flailing, then sniffled, emitting soft sobs.

This startled Jiang Yichun. The icy facade on his face could no longer hold as he quickly embraced Bai Ruozhu in his arms, asking, ”Why are you really crying? I didn’t really do anything to you...”

Before he could finish his sentence, he howled in pain. Bai Ruozhu, taking the opportunity to ”cry” on his shoulder, had bitten into the tender flesh of his neck.

”Let go!” Jiang Yichun felt both amused and annoyed. She’d actually used that move.

”Mmm, won’t let go,” Bai Ruozhu mumbled defiantly, teeth still clamped down.

He raised his hand in annoyance and slapped her on the bottom, ”Will you let go or not?”

Her face flushed bright red instantly, and she couldn’t help but cry out, her mouth finally loosening.

She swiftly stepped back, covering her rear and looking at him warily, ”Shameless! Pervert!”

Jiang Yichun grinned, ”If you don’t behave, I’ll show you what true shamelessness is!”

She immediately understood his implication, and her face uncontrollably flushed hot. There was a whole pile of issues to deal with now—who had the time to bicker with him?

With that thought, she huffed and turned to leave, but Jiang Yichun caught up and wrapped his arm around her shoulder.

”Stop messing around!” she snapped irritably.

Suddenly, a bell rang from afar, and the two of them froze on the spot, because that was no ordinary bell—it was the sound of a funeral bell!
