Chapter 1204: Chapter 1206 Chu Hai’s Secret_1

”Master, someone from the Bai Residence has come with a message, saying that Chu Hai has woken up and has asked specifically to see you. He said if he doesn’t see you, he won’t say another word.” In the middle of the night, Jianqi gently tapped on the door a few times and spoke softly from outside.

Bai Ruozhu and Jiang Yichun were both light sleepers and immediately got up and dressed quickly.

”Also, people from the Jiang Residence deliberately blocked our messenger from entering. It was a dark guard who managed to get a message to me,” Jianqi paused briefly, then still chose to reveal the truth.

To send the message, the Bai Residence had dispatched a guard to the Jiang Residence. But someone at the Jiang Residence, for reasons unknown, had adamantly stopped the messenger outside. A dark guard hiding in the shadows noticed the commotion and reported to Jianqi.

Upon hearing this, Jiang Yichun snorted coldly, ”I will deal with this matter tomorrow.”

Bai Ruozhu remained silent. It was time for Jiang Yichun to put the Jiang Family in their place; they were becoming far too arrogant. To come seeking in the dead of night surely meant urgent business, and yet they had the audacity to block the messenger outside, heedless of delaying urgent matters?

However, the pressing issue at hand was Chu Hai’s condition. Since he insisted on speaking only to her, it must be a matter of great secrecy, and very likely, it could concern Diao Yao’s identity.

Bai Ruozhu told Nanny Zhang to watch over Dengdeng, and then she and Jiang Yichun rode straight to the Bai Residence.

Upon arriving at Chu Hai’s quarters, his weak voice came from inside, ”Ask Bai Ruozhu to come in alone. This matter cannot be discussed with too many people.”

Jiang Yichun snorted coldly, clearly displeased. Bai Ruozhu hurriedly turned back, tugged at his arm, and whispered, ”All right, don’t argue with a sick person. Go and talk to my parents; they must be terribly worried after being woken up at this late hour.”

Jiang Yichun’s expression finally softened, and he turned to go see Bai Ruozhu’s parents.

Bai Ruozhu entered the room and saw Chu Hai sitting weakly on the bed, having dismissed the maid from the room.

”You’ve finally come. I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to hold on much longer,” said Chu Hai, his voice barely a whisper.

Bai Ruozhu approached the bed and gave him a reproachful look, saying, ”Then why are you wasting time with idle talk?”

A bitter smile appeared on Chu Hai’s lips as he spoke softly, ”I originally intended to take this matter to the grave, but it’s clear that the other party abducted her because of Diao Yao’s lineage. She is my only sister, and I cannot allow anything to happen to her. Diao Yao’s biological father was the Former Emperor of Danliang Country, so she could be considered your princess.”

”What?” Bai Ruozhu was taken aback. She had assumed that Chu Hai and Diao Yao had a secret, perhaps a vendetta against the Danliang Royal Family or an injustice dealt by the Emperor, similar to the case of Little Swallow. But she never imagined that Diao Yao could be the daughter of the Former Emperor!

Primarily because Diao Yao’s appearance bore the traits of the Western Regions, Bai Ruozhu hadn’t even considered that possibility.

”So you and Diao Yao are biological siblings, and you’re also the son of the Former Emperor?” Bai Ruozhu suddenly realized.

Chu Hai shook his head slightly, his face showing a hint of embarrassment, ”Diao Yao and I do not share the same father.”

Bai Ruozhu twitched the corners of her mouth, feeling that there was a decent amount of gossip in this revelation.

Chu Hai sighed and continued his story, ”My mother is the Holy Maiden of the Holy Hall in the Western Regions, while my father is named Tang Gui. You might not have heard of him, but the royal surname in Danliang Country is Tang. He was actually a hostage sent to the Western Regions by Danliang Country.”

Seeing the disbelief on Bai Ruozhu’s face, he gave a bitter smile and said, ”More than thirty years ago, the Western Regions were powerful, and in order to maintain peace and tranquility in Danliang Country, sending a prince as a hostage wasn’t surprising. In the following years, the power of Danliang Country grew stronger, and the Former Emperor ascended the throne, but by then my father had already married my mother and had no intention of returning to Danliang. However...”

He sighed again. ”About a decade ago, the Former Emperor visited the Western Regions, and someone schemed against him by poisoning him, causing my mother to lose her virtue to the Former Emperor and even almost creating a rift between my father and the Former Emperor. Later, when the Former Emperor returned to Danliang, my mother discovered she was pregnant, and then she gave birth to Diao Yao. But with Diao Yao’s unique identity, my mother could only send her to the Bihai Sect, instructing me to protect her in secret. She also asked me not to recognize Diao Yao as my sister, and not to reveal her background, fearing that it would cause Diao Yao heartache.”

So that was the case!

”Speaking of the Reincarnation Poison that was in your body earlier, how did your mother get poisoned?” Bai Ruozhu asked urgently. She could imagine that Chu Hai’s mother must have been poisoned after giving birth to Diao Yao; otherwise, with the potent nature of the Reincarnation Poison, Diao Yao would have been poisoned too.

”To this day, I still don’t know how she was poisoned. Our family was framed, my father was assassinated, and my mother fell into a poisoned coma. If it wasn’t for her master hiding her, she wouldn’t have survived until now. As for the mastermind behind this, I have no clue whatsoever,” Chu Hai said.

”So it turns out, you too are from Danliang Country, at least the son of a prince. But why would they want to capture Diao Yao? What are their intentions? Who is this person surnamed Wang you mentioned?” Bai Ruozhu inquired.

”I didn’t say it was a family surnamed Wang, but someone definitely among the princes arranged for the assassin to attack us, as I saw the pattern of Python Clothes on a piece of the torn clothing of one of the attackers. As to why he captured Diao Yao, he probably knows Diao Yao is the Former Emperor’s daughter and wanted to capture her to claim credit,” Chu Hai said, massaging his temple.

Bai Ruozhu suddenly thought of the deceased Li Yi, another son of the Former Emperor, and now another daughter. The Former Emperor’s legacy was quite widespread...

As for this explanation of capturing Diao Yao to claim credit, she didn’t believe it. If it was to claim credit, they would have already turned her over to the Emperor, so why is there no movement yet?

She looked towards Chu Hai and saw that he was hanging his head, either lost in thought or not wanting her to see his expression. For some inexplicable reason, she always felt that Chu Hai was holding something back, concealing something from her.

”Is there anything else? If you don’t reveal everything, we might miss some clues, which could affect the rescue of Diao Yao. She is your only sister; surely you wouldn’t want her to suffer in the hands of the villains, right?” Bai Ruozhu prodded.

Sure enough, Chu Hai’s body trembled slightly, clearly indicating that he had thought of something, yet he remained silent with his head still bowed.

After a long while, Bai Ruozhu sighed softly and said, ”All right, you should rest well. Take your medicine on time and send a servant to pass me a message if you think of anything. I will continue to search for Diao Yao. Also, Princess Diao Bin is close to Diao Yao. I’ve already informed her of Diao Yao’s disappearance and asked for her help and the Empress Dowager’s in finding her. Do you think we should tell the Empress Dowager and the Emperor about Diao Yao’s true background?”

”Don’t!” Chu Hai reacted strongly, suddenly raising his voice. If it wasn’t for his current weakness and lack of breath, this outcry would surely have been more alarming.

Bai Ruozhu looked at him in surprise. ”Why not?”

Chu Hai lowered his head again. ”Diao Yao’s background is sensitive, and it would be regarded as forbidden by moral standards. My mother does not wish for her to return to the Royal Family and be ridiculed, so this matter must not be disclosed,” he said.

Hearing this, Bai Ruozhu snorted coldly, ”You’re lying! If your mother disliked the idea of Diao Yao returning to the Royal Family, then why did you come to the Capital City? Don’t tell me it was just to find a cure for the poison. If that was the case, you should have returned to the Western Regions as soon as you were detoxified!”
