Rebirth: General, Don't Mess Around!

Shuikou Village was remote and didn’t have many tourist resources. After entering the 21st century, the young people in the village started to go out to work. Right on the heels of that, their fathers also went out of the mountains to work in the big cities to earn money. Now, life in the village was getting better and better. The villagers’ knowledge was getting better and better too. Even their vigilance had changed drastically.

Especially since Shuikou Village was a village near the garrison. Every year, the villagers would hold many information security meetings. In this aspect, the villagers of Shuikou Village were even more cautious than the residents of the town.

Uncle Hai looked at the two strangers who suddenly came to the village to ask questions. He stared at the two strangers vigilantly and replied, ”I don’t know her.”

Red Plum, Snow Plum, Autumn Plum… There were so many of them in the village. The older generation chose names based on what sounded nice.

Hence, there were many similar names.

Besides, they knew that it was not a good thing that strangers were entering the village to ask around. They had to be vigilant at all times and not speak nonsense. If they did, they would harm others. If they were careless, they would become traitors.

Most of the villagers who stayed behind were old. They had been doing farm work for their entire lives. They didn’t like outsiders, nor did they like strangers coming into their lives. Before the strangers could finish speaking, Uncle Hai said in a stiff tone, ”Hurry up and get out. There’s no one called Red Plum in our village. Go to the neighboring village and ask.”

”Mister, we’re here to look for our former comrade. Think about it again. Is there a woman in the village who used to be a soldier like us? I’m 43 this year. This is my wife.”

The stranger who asked the question was dressed appropriately in a suit and leather shoes. He was holding a briefcase in his hand and looked like an intellectual.

His wife was wearing a dark red and gold velvet shirt and pants. She was also wearing a thin and long milky white knitted sweater. Her aura was gentle, like a teacher.

Uncle Hai ignored them. He didn’t even think about it. He carried his hoe and came out of the paddy field. He casually pulled off the two leeches on his calf and used the hoe in his hand to cut them into two. Blood flowed from the side of the paddy field into the green stalks. The leeches that were cut into two were still twisting and struggling.

The middle-aged woman was frightened. She took a step back with a look of disdain in her eyes.

Uncle Hai snorted when he saw this. He picked up his hoe again and walked barefooted through the mud. He stopped talking to the two of them.

Comrade? Did they think that he had never seen a soldier before?

A few days ago, a group of soldiers was having a long training. They even ran past the village.

The villagers’ lack of cooperation made the two of them anxious. The old master had instructed the couple to find out Red Plum’s residence and personal information. They couldn’t return empty-handed.

Since this person wouldn’t cooperate with them, they would look for someone else.

”Find a woman and give her some money to get her to talk.” The middle-aged woman came up with an idea. Money talked. She didn’t believe that the peasant women in this poor village wouldn’t want money.

There were definitely people who were greedy for money. However, they had been alerted by the various security meetings held by the military unit. As long as it was related to the military unit, there were no such thing as small matters. If they were not careful, they would be sentenced for leaking any kind of news. Even if they were greedy for money, they knew that the money they got would be useless if they had to go behind bars.
