Three Towers Game

Chapter 48: Chapter 41: The First Victim

The man is about 1.9 meters tall, but the most striking thing is not his height, but his arms, which hang naturally and easily reach past his knees.

His arm span is astonishing, so much so that it feels like he could touch the ground with his fists by bending his body slightly.

From the limb proportions alone, in Wen Xishu’s eyes, this last teammate was more like an ape than Nissen.

Of course, the most concerning thing was still this man’s mouth, sealed with an iron mask. Wen Xishu had only seen this kind of outfit in anime.

Generally, when the mask is removed, some kind of second stage would begin.

But Kane, Park Mi-hye, and Sita were all quite bold and did not pay much attention to the outfit.

”My name is... Zheng Zai.” The man spoke with some difficulty.

”I’m sorry, I hope my appearance didn’t scare you... I must be like this. I am trying to quit a certain desire.”

Zheng Zai’s voice sounded rather gentle. If it weren’t for the iron mask, Zheng Zai might have given the impression of a tall and bulky but sincere person, providing a sense of security.

Wen Xishu noticed that Zheng Zai’s eyes occasionally glanced at Brother Ah San, Sita.

”Is there some kind of scent on Sita attracting him?”

”He’s quitting a certain desire?”

Wen Xishu couldn’t help but ask:

”Are you sick?”

Zheng Zai nodded:

”I am sick. But it’s incurable.”

Wen Xishu asked again:

”The second layer has a level six hospital now, even they can’t cure you?”

Zheng Zai shook his head:

”After the pandemic ended, that hospital rarely opened to ordinary people... I need to make money, come to the Deceit Tower to earn enough money.”

Wen Xishu suddenly had a guess:

”Which tower did you go to last time?”

Zheng Zai seemed to like being asked questions, as that would reduce his certain desire because his attention would be partially diverted:

”The Deceit Tower, fourth floor. That mission... I completed it. Level four completion.”

The Deceit Tower, fourth floor, level four completion.

The Deceit Tower itself should have a bonus, and with level four completion, the resources should be quite plentiful...

Considering Zheng Zai’s physical condition, Wen Xishu asked:

”What crime did you commit?”

Zheng Zai was slightly taken aback, seeming to not catch up with Wen Xishu’s thought process.

He was silent for two or three seconds before he slowly spoke:

”My father... was arrested in an anti-corruption operation. My family, they are all prisoners.”

It was somewhat similar to his own fate.

But the term `anti-corruption`, coupled with implication... it seems Zheng Zai’s father was not an ordinary person.

Wen Xishu asked the last question:

”How long ago did this happen?”

Zheng Zai, now about thirty years old, already looked somewhat weathered, he replied:

”Twelve years ago.”

”Alright, welcome to our team.”

Twelve years ago, it seemed to have no relation to the Wen Family.

Wen Xishu didn’t feel a trace of malice from Zheng Zai, which made him feel good.

As for Zheng Zai’s illness, perhaps it wasn’t an illness at all.

Of course, for now, Wen Xishu couldn’t determine it.

”How about you be the captain?” Wen Xishu suddenly looked at Park Mi-hye.

Logically speaking, the probability of the high-levels arranging someone just to be his teammate was very low, but given that he had always been experiencing various low-probability events, Wen Xishu had never harbored a fluke mind.

Appointing Park Mi-hye as captain was partly because he wanted to observe Park Mi-hye, and on the other hand, Park Mi-hye might have some information.

At this moment, Sita raised an objection:

”Why let a woman be the captain? Women are for... no, I can’t accept it.”

Wen Xishu looked at Kane:

”Do you also think this beautiful lady is not fit to be the captain?”

Kane shook his head:

”Of course not, gender equality, hey, this beautiful lady must have plenty of experience climbing towers, I am willing to learn from her.”

Neither Zheng Zai nor Mendemuir spoke.

Park Mi-hye asked:

”Why do you want to choose me as the captain?”

Wen Xishu seemed to change the topic:

”The keyword for this mission, parrot, do you have any impression of parrots from your multiple ascents in the Desire Tower?”

Park Mi-hye frowned:

”This is also my first ascent of the Deceit Tower, how could I know what the parrot represents? Although the highest level of the Bunker implemented Huaxia as the official language back then, your language... is very obscure.”

”Your characters are simply complicated for the sake of being complicated.”

Wen Xishu said:

”Alright, alright, Ms. Park, I don’t expect you to understand the beauty of Chinese, but what I want to say is, do you have any recollection of anything about parrots in the Desire Tower?”

Park Mi-hye seemed to realize that there might be a link between the Desire Tower and the Deceit Tower in Wen Xishu’s words.

She actually valued what Wen Xishu said more.

After all...

Unlike others, Park Mi-hye came here indeed specifically for Wen Xishu, and Wen Xishu’s intuition was not wrong.

The six had already completed the team formation, and they had less than an hour to prepare for the battle.

Park Mi-hye also wanted to survive, only by surviving could she have a chance for a better life.

This mission, the high level of the Bunker—mainly the Civil Affairs Bureau, arranged 244 female agents. These women usually only mingled in the lower levels of the Desire Tower, but they all had their own talents.

And the Security Bureau also arranged quite a few non-academy graduates to infiltrate the Deceit Tower, totaling 450 men.

Graduates from institutions related to the Three Towers Academy were not to be persecuted. But the Security Bureau recruited people from the lower classes every year to do the ”dirty work,” even training death warriors.

Nearly seven hundred people were thrown into the Deceit Tower just to team up with Wen Xishu, to obtain the secret of passing through the Deceit Tower. These people could all die, the Security Bureau and the Civil Affairs Bureau had already prepared for substantial compensation.
