Chapter 6: Chapter 6: The Strange Building and The Strange Person

The footsteps of the strange man and the sinister laughter are getting closer and closer.

It is in the corridor outside the room.

This old-style building is somewhat similar to old hospitals from the 90s, with many rooms on each floor separated by a straight corridor.

The bathrooms and laundry rooms are shared facilities, often located at the end of the corridor, just like the stairways.

Wen Xishu lay patiently under the bed, waiting.

He wore a smile, and his calm expression gave Jennifer a strange sense of safety.

Her heart, which had been pounding violently from fear, gradually returned to a normal rhythm.

But even so, the footsteps of the strange man did not cease.

Wen Xishu was not flustered.

He had avoided the first death point—the opening kill, and this assured him that the dangers here were traceable.

He noticed that everyone in the Bunker referred to the exploration of the Three Towers as the Three Towers Game.

This indicated that like in a game, every dangerous situation had some method to overcome it.

”Never lose your composure just because footsteps are approaching.”

Wen Xishu started to wait patiently.

The footsteps kept approaching, and Jennifer once again fell into fear. Wen Xishu first made a shushing gesture.

His past experiences, which couldn’t be rated poorly, had given him a super strong heart.

Then Wen Xishu picked up his phone, quickly opened the notepad, and typed with one hand:

”Don’t be afraid, be quiet, and do whatever I tell you. If you understand, blink your eyes.”

Jennifer blinked her eyes.

”Good girl.”

Wen Xishu felt relieved.

After calming Jennifer, he continued to wait.

As the footsteps of the strange man seemed to reach the door and were about to open it—

the strange man spoke again:

”Dear Jenny, will you be as quiet as Remian?”

”He did hide for a while, but I have smashed his brain, hehe.”

”He will never slander me over the phone again. Never! Now, he is the Silent Remian!”

The footsteps crushed the floor, and the strange man’s voice clearly became filled with rage as he mentioned the last sentence.

Wen Xishu felt the entire building shake.

This made him realize that the monsters in Deceit Tower might possess supernatural powers.

But he still remained calm:

”Unlike his previous speaking times, the strange man mentioned someone named Remian this time.”

”He is angry because Remian often slandered him over the phone.”

”The crucial information seems to be the Silent Remian and the phone.”

As if he had understood the boss’s attack patterns, Wen Xishu realized this was a breakthrough point.

He decisively opened his phone again and slowly slid his fingers across the contact list.

Sure enough, he found Remian.

And as his gaze fixed on Remian—an illusionary dialogue box popped up.

But the content in the dialogue box made his head dizzy.

It was all a bunch of characters resembling garbled text.

”It truly is a game. There are hints at certain special places or with special items.”

”But probably due to the low Anti-Magic Value, I should have seen some information about Remian here...”

”But now, this information is completely blocked; staring at it even affects my thinking.”

Wen Xishu averted his gaze.

”No matter. Even if I don’t know Remian’s information, I can guess what to do.”

The sound of the doorknob turning was heard; the strange man was about to enter the room.

Jennifer’s pupils trembled in extreme fear. She was terrified that suddenly a hideous face would peek under the bed and say excitedly, ”Found you.”

But at this moment, Wen Xishu dialed Remian’s number.

The Silent Remian, slandering people on the phone, the strange man’s extreme anger...

These clues, in Wen Xishu’s view, clearly indicated how the boss’s next move should be countered.

Suddenly, a phone rang upstairs, and the strange man’s footsteps abruptly stopped.

It wasn’t just upstairs; after the initial ring, phones started ringing from all directions, filling the entire building.

It was as if thousands of phones suddenly started ringing simultaneously in the dead of night.

”Again, it’s a supernatural phenomenon... This building seems to magnify the strange man’s inner thoughts,” Wen Xishu analyzed silently.

The enormous and chaotic chorus of phone ringtones drove the strange man into a frenzy:

”Re! Mi! An! You are still alive! I will kill you! I will crush your head!”

”So noisy! So noisy! You despicable little man chattering behind my back!”

In a flash, the sound had moved from their room to several floors above.

Wen Xishu smiled at Jennifer and typed quickly with his single-for-years-fast fingers:

”See, I told you, nothing to worry about. Now we can leave this room.”

Wen Xishu calmly crawled out from under the bed, like a certain Mr. Wang regaining his vigor after the departure of his tormentor.

Jennifer’s eyes were brimming with tears; the footsteps of the strange man had really frightened her terribly just now.

But once again, Wen Xishu gave her a sense of security.

[Deceit Jennifer’s favorability slightly increased. Desire Jennifer’s favorability slightly increased.]

A notification appeared in Wen Xishu’s mind.

Wen Xishu was a bit puzzled, both Desire Tower and Deceit Tower have a Jennifer?

Is the task in Desire Tower also to rescue Jennifer?

Wen Xishu did not dwell on this question. He wanted to head towards the building’s exit with Jennifer, quickly leaving this place.

Having evaded the opening kill and found a way to lure the strange man away, he had already avoided two death points.

On the way out of the building, Wen Xishu began reading the notes on his phone.

”I am playing the role of someone rescuing Jennifer.”

”When I arrived, I had already made contact with Jennifer through the role I am playing.”

”They should have had some communication.”

His guess was correct; the notes contained the following content—

”Uncle Jack suddenly went mad; he killed Uncle Remian and many people in the building!”

”I’m very scared, I want to leave here. But Mom told me to hide under the bed and not to leave.”

These were Jennifer’s words.

The little girl was actually quite smart, knowing to use her phone to communicate from the start. The rescuer also posed a question:

”Do you have a good relationship with Jack?”

Jennifer’s response was:

”Uncle Jack likes Mom, both he and Uncle Remian like Mom. But Mom doesn’t like them...”

”Mom said she would take me to live in a brighter building. She doesn’t want to be connected too much with the poor people in this building. She wants to live in a villa.”

”But... I like the people here, especially Uncle Jack.”

”Uncle Jack used to be a very nice person. He often played with me, not just to make Mom happy.”

”He really liked playing with me. I also liked playing with him.”

”I don’t know why Uncle Jack became what he is now.”

Wen Xishu quickly read through all the content.

”It seems this is part of the backstory for a certain area on the twenty-first floor of Deceit Tower.”

A good man suddenly goes mad, gains supernatural powers, and then massacres all his neighbors...

Wen Xishu had a feeling that merely leaving by himself might only achieve the lowest completion level.

Ensuring Jennifer’s survival might bring the completion level to tier two or even tier three.

But to achieve tier four completion, more actions would be required.

At that moment, he discovered another troubling issue—

The recursive hallway.

Originally, there should have been stairs leading to the next floor or the previous floor at the end of the corridor.

But Wen Xishu, guiding Jennifer along the corridor for a long while... ended up back at the start.

They were trapped in a looping hallway, the original stairs had disappeared.

And just then, the whole building began to shake slightly again. The eerie phone ringtones had completely ceased.

Because Remian’s phone, along with his twice-desecrated corpse, had been crushed into pieces.

”Damn you, Remian! You chattering little man! Damn it! Damn it!”

”Jen—ni—fer! Come and watch my performance with me! I’ve been rehearsing at home for so long, you will come, right?”

The target in his voice once again shifted to Jennifer.

Wen Xishu could feel that the strange man Jack was already very close to them.

The eerie and twisted laughter made Wen Xishu think of cobwebs sticking to his body, which drove him crazy.

Unable to see an exit, Jennifer’s eyes were filled with tears. She truly did not know what to do, thinking to hide back under the bed again.

But Wen Xishu suddenly grabbed her hand. He very calmly held his phone screen towards Jennifer:

”Good girl, don’t be afraid, I am here.”

”Now tell me, where is Jack’s room? Let’s go watch his performance.”
