Chapter 17: Chapter 13 The Collapse

Wenren Mirror, the top of Desire Tower’s ladder, once summarized that every level and every area of Desire Tower has its own story.

Although the Three Tower People have intelligence no different from humans, and they are indeed humans, they are manipulated by their original fates like NPCs.

Take Jack, Remian, and Anderson for example.

Even though Wen Xishu’s appearance delayed Jack’s progress, Remian and Anderson would still bring Jack despair and pain at the appropriate time.

This is their trajectory in Desire Tower.

Knowing the story content of an area is equivalent to mastering each person’s trajectory in Desire Tower, which helps achieve a high completion rate.

And when different players enter the same area for the same task—

everyone will return to a certain time node and repeat their fate again.

Simply put—dungeon reset.

But not long ago, Wenren Mirror wrote another paper that caused a sensation throughout the Bunker.

The paper mentioned an existence called ”the Collapse-er.”

Unlike ordinary Three Tower People, Collapse-ers may retain some memories each time a task resets...

They might remember parts of the memory from the last dungeon reset.

Over time, Collapse-ers will realize that they are living in a game world that experiences loops.

All their efforts become meaningless, so instead, they indulge in hedonism, wantonly enjoy, and continuously destroy.

”Decay of Rites and Music” is a phrase describing the Collapse-ers.

Anyway, the world will reset, and it’s just a game. Having fun becomes the most important thing.

Parents, friends, they are just data. Whether it’s messing with them, deceiving them, or killing them, it doesn’t matter.

In short, Collapse-ers are like those novel protagonists trapped in the same day—

unpredictable in behavior, exceptionally familiar with the area they live in, and deranged.

They will attempt to fight against players, deceive players, and mock players.

The higher the level, the more likely Collapse-ers will appear.

This may cause significant variations when different players enter the same area and take on the same task...

Therefore, high-level strategies in Desires Tower have a certain timeliness, as the original storylines are likely to be completely disrupted by Collapse-ers.

Naturally, the probability of task failure is very high.

In Wenren Mirror’s paper, it is also mentioned that Collapse-ers are likewise bound by the rules of Desire Tower.

This may be the price they pay for becoming Collapse-ers.

If Wen Xishu had read this paper and knew that Desire Tower forbids all violent behaviors—

then he would understand why this ”doctor” had such a bewildered and confused expression.

Because the doctor is a Collapse-er, and like a player, he is bound by the rules of Desire Tower.

As a result, to kill an old lady, he couldn’t directly strangle her but had to use the inertia of the wheelchair to push her down.

In the original storyline, Jack was not diagnosed with stomach cancer.

He didn’t have the money to go to the hospital for a check-up, so naturally, he couldn’t have known what was happening to him.

Still following the original storyline, Jack indeed suffered from Remian’s backstabbing and Anderson’s betrayal. But his mother didn’t die.

Jack retained a shred of humanity; he spared Jennifer’s life in the end.

But with this doctor’s manipulation behind the scenes, Jack’s fate changed.

His mother’s death was the true reason that crushed Jack’s sanity.

As a result, in that building, Jennifer heard Jack say—

”You have a mother, are you showing off to me?”

In the end, Jennifer chose her mother over him, only to be killed by Jack.

However, due to Wen Xishu’s intervention, Jennifer’s fate was altered, and she did not turn back. Hence, Jack did not kill Jennifer out of jealousy.

Getting back to the point, Wen Xishu was unaware of these matters, but he found the Collapse-er.

”It shouldn’t be, what went wrong? It was exactly the same as last time, but why did you suddenly appear in the hospital?”

The doctor was very surprised by Wen Xishu’s arrival.

Wen Xishu said:

”Tell me, who are you really?”

The doctor gently shook his head:

”Such a question is meaningless. I admit your appearance surprised me. I must have made a mistake somewhere.”

”But it doesn’t matter. Since you can use violence, it proves you are just an ordinary person. I will keep an eye on you after the reset.”

Wen Xishu didn’t understand and decided to change his approach:

”I’ll tell you a secret, I actually enjoy playing the role of a calm and kind-hearted man.”

The doctor didn’t understand why the other party suddenly said this.

Wen Xishu’s smile grew even more friendly:

”Because only then, when I go mad, it feels extremely good, like the world is dislocated.”

As soon as he finished speaking, an unexpected heavy punch landed, distorting the doctor’s handsome face.

The sound of the fist breaking the nasal bone came, but Wen Xishu didn’t stop.

He noticed that this fake doctor seemed very afraid of violence.

This punch was just the beginning, followed by a torrential beating that turned the doctor’s face into a bloody mess in an instant.

The pig-headed face made him look much more subdued.

Seeing the other party’s bruised and swollen face, Wen Xishu felt much better. The better he felt, the harder he hit.

His smile shifted from gentle to ferocious, and his beastly nature gradually emerged. This was the complete opposite of how he acted in front of Jennifer.
