Return of the Antagonistic Lady Boss

Chapter 506: Chapter 480: Dead Serious

Mr. Li wouldn’t allow his sister to see Li Zhen, not just because he had issues with her recent actions, but more so because she tended to blow things out of proportion, which could easily cause trouble.

Their son was already in such a state, and her coming over would do no good — it might even have the opposite effect.

Last night, she forced her way in and got into an argument with Mr. Li, further diminishing Li Zhen’s will to live.

Now, hearing that she was back again, Mr. Li was both angry and helpless.

Yu Minglang immediately removed his hand from his uncle’s shoulder and made a gesture inviting him to leave.

”Go, quickly take care of this troublesome woman,” he said.

As Mr. Li went out, neither Mr. Yu nor Mrs. Yu wanted to leave; they both wanted to see how Chen Xiaoqian would persuade Li Zhen, but still, they had to send out a representative.

”You go, as his brother, who else would go if not you?” Mrs. Yu nudged Mr. Yu.

”These are women’s issues; as the eldest sister-in-law, you should go!” Mr. Yu was also at his wit’s end with his unruly sister.

Outside, the noise erupted again.

”What’s wrong with me seeing my own son! Son! Mom is here! My poor son!”

The sister-in-law, after being provoked by Qian, had been emotionally unstable, so worried about the child that she didn’t even care about her appearance.

Mr. Li’s demands for her to leave were entirely overridden by her shouting.

”Look at my uncle, lack of courage, no wonder he can’t control my aunt watching over me,” Yu Minglang muttered, reluctantly taking a last look at the screen. Qian was really so handsome; it was hard for him to tear his eyes away. He needed to make this quick.

When Yu Minglang came out, he saw his aunt holding onto his uncle’s hair and refusing to let go. The doctors and nurses nearby didn’t dare intervene because they knew who she was.

”Uncle, you call yourself a man, but why do you show no backbone?”

Yu Minglang walked over, and upon seeing him, the aunt became even more agitated, pointing at him, ”Yu Minglang! It’s all your fault, you and that wicked woman are two peas in a pod, neither of you is any good!”

”Hmm, we’re not good people,” Yu Minglang agreed, then raised his hand and swiftly knocked her unconscious with a karate chop.

”Not a good person,” Yu Minglang had learned from Qian’s approach: when doing anything, just declare, ”I’m not a good person,” and all unreasonable actions suddenly become reasonable.

The aunt fell to the ground, and Yu Minglang waved his hand, ”Carry her away, find a small room to lock her in, don’t let her out to cause trouble. If she’s still causing a scene when she wakes up, give her a shot to make her sleep—Uncle, you better get someone to take her away; don’t let her stay in the hospital.”

With women like this, reasoning is useless; just knock them out and get peace of mind.

Yu Minglang went back again to see his Mei, and this time, looking at the monitor, he burst out laughing.

”What the hell!”

”What’s the matter?” Mrs. Yu didn’t understand why Yu Minglang would get so worked up after glancing at the screen.

”It’s over, it’s over, our Mei is going to become something extraordinary, this is freaking awesome!”

”Do you want a beating? Can’t you speak properly?” Mr. Yu asked.

On the screen, Li Zhen appeared stuck, his expression frozen in terror for a long time as if he’d been hit by something huge.

While Chen Xiaoqian remained calm and collected, as if the world were under her control.

”If I tell you, you might get more excited than I am. Here’s what my Mei told Li Zhen...”

Unable to contain his fiery excitement, Yu Minglang stared at the screen and began to translate synchronously based on Chen Xiaoqian’s lip movements.

After Mr. Yu listened, he reacted exactly like Yu Minglang.

”What the hell!”

Mrs. Yu usually hated Mr. Yu swearing — it was very low-class, but today was different; she couldn’t even correct him and asked in astonishment.

”Are you kidding? Did Qian really say that? Could she be trying to comfort Li Zhen?”

”Do you think my woman is someone who speaks carelessly? Look at her confident little smile; without two-hundred percent certainty, would she say that?”

Yu Minglang felt a heartfelt pride; his Mei was truly incredible.

After inspiring Li Zhen’s emotions, when he was breaking down in a roar, Chen Xiaoqian used just one sentence to settle him down.

”If you were truly paralyzed for life and couldn’t take care of yourself, with suicidal despair, I wouldn’t comment either. After all, respecting life means respecting the choice to live and also respecting each person’s right to die. Your life or death rests in your own hands; even if your desire to die outweighs your attachment to your family, I respect that. But the thing is, you’re not really paralyzed; you can stand up. So why are you in such despair?”

”What... did you say?” Li Zhen couldn’t believe his ears.

Let me tell you something interesting. I like watching zombie movies, there’s a particularly funny one, darkly humorous, where a guy thinks if he gets bitten by a zombie, he’s infected, like in the movies. He cuts off his arm, only to be bitten between his legs by another zombie that came out of the snow, and he awkwardly wonders whether to cut it off with a chainsaw...what’s more awkward is that after cutting off his arm, he finds out the bite wasn’t infectious at all, hahaha!”

”...What did you just say, you said I can still stand?!” Li Zhen was in disbelief.

”Yes, you can stand, haven’t you seen the doctor’s scans? From a pathological perspective, your condition isn’t that severe. If you really died for this, wouldn’t you be as foolish as the guy who cut off his own arm only to find it was pointless?”

”But my legs won’t respond, the doctors checked and there’s no response even when poked with needles. I... I really am paralyzed. I can’t get up!”

Li Zhen tried to move, but he felt nothing below the waist. Yet, the nonchalant tone of Chen Xiaoqian inexplicably sparked hope in him, she just had that ability to make people believe in anything.

”That’s normal, although your body is normal, it’s here that’s sick.” Qian pointed to her chest, and Li Zhen copied her gesture.

”Are you saying I have heart disease?”

”No, you have a psychological issue, my initial diagnosis is that it’s a disorder caused by compulsive worrying leading to your legs not working, commonly known as SSD—actually, not commonly known.”

SSD, a psychosomatic disorder related to psychological factors, a theory proposed only over a decade later. Now is too soon to mention it.

Some call it a psychosomatic illness, just others don’t present as clearly as Li Zhen.

”If you’re treated according to a psychologist’s methods, your legs could begin responding in as early as a day, or at most a month, you’ll stand up.”

”Are you... messing with me?” Li Zhen’s voice trembled, although he should have been despairing, an unknown joy surged, suppressing his fears of failure. He pressed his hand to his eyes to hide his tears of excitement from Chen Xiaoqian.

”Don’t trick me, Chen Xiaoqian, really don’t trick me! I won’t be able to stand it, I’ll break down, don’t give me false hope!”

”I, Chen Xiaoqian, mean what I say. If I say I can cure you, then I can. If not, I’ll chop off my leg and give it to you!”
