Return of the Antagonistic Lady Boss

Chapter 503: Chapter 477: Seeing Through Everything

The conditions in Li Zhen’s hospital room are excellent. The Li family is doing everything they can to treat him, even bringing in specialists from afar. But the specialists are helpless in the face of his illness. No matter how luxurious the room is, it cannot restore a healthy body.

Qian arrived at the hospital with Mr. Yu. Mrs. Yu also came after hearing the news and waited at the door. When she saw Mr. Yu, they exchanged glances, both seeing the anger in each other’s eyes.

”Wasn’t the surgery supposed to be successful, why is there still no sensation?” Mrs. Yu asked Mr. Yu. She received the notice last night that Li Zhen’s surgery had been successful, but unexpectedly, they were told today that the situation was particularly bleak, with no normal post-operative reactions.

This seems to be heading towards paralysis.

”I’ll ask the doctor later, see what’s going on, if it can be treated, if not, get someone else!” Mr. Yu was also furious.

Outside the hospital room, Li Zhen’s father stood by the window. Qian was surprised when she first saw him.

The last time she met Mr. Li, it hadn’t been too long. That was when she just met Yu Minglang, who took her to the Li family for an affair.

Mr. Li seemed quite robust then, but now he appeared with white strands, worn out, looking at least ten years older. His wife’s misconduct and his son’s incident had defeated him.

Seeing Mr. Yu, Mr. Li reached out to shake his hand, and Mr. Li said apologetically.

”I’m ashamed for failing to raise my son and manage my wife properly, causing such trouble for your family. If it wasn’t for Li Zhen being seriously ill right now, I should have visited to personally apologize.”

”What are you saying? It’s I who failed to educate my sister properly, I’m at fault here!”

”Don’t say that, it’s all my fault!”

The two exchanged remarks. Normally, neither were upfront talkers. Their apologies now were genuine. The sister-in-law had relieved herself through her husband and brother, unexpectedly causing great distress for them.

Mr. Li and Mr. Yu were friends back in the day and their relationship was fairly good. Even after Mr. Li went elsewhere, they still kept in close contact. Mr. Yu felt embarrassed to face his friend, thinking he shouldn’t have married his sister to his friend.

Mr. Li also felt guilty towards Mr. Yu, thinking all troubles stemmed from the sister-in-law. He had been too busy working to notice his wife’s changing mindset. The situation now left both of them in a tight spot.

”Now is not the time for a grievance meeting; how’s the child’s condition?” Mrs. Yu spoke up.

Mr. Li sighed and shook his head.

Qian stood quietly by their side, listening to their conversation, pondering her next move. What exactly did Li Zhen want from her?

Just then, Li Zhen’s attending physician arrived. Mr. Li called him over, and the doctor began explaining Li Zhen’s condition.

”Look at this film; the injury is in the cauda equina area within spinal cord damage, considered relatively mild. The cauda equina’s ability to withstand damage is stronger than that of the spinal cord. According to our assessment, his post-operative condition should at most be grade E, perhaps not even grade E.”

”What the heck is that? Can you explain it in a way we understand?” Mr. Yu said impatiently.

Mrs. Yu, who understood this as a doctor, explained to everyone, ”All spinal fractures may lead to paralysis, but the degree varies, and post-operative recovery differs. Medically, paralysis is classified into five grades—ABCDE. Grade A is the most severe, implying complete bedridden disability, with no control over bowel movements. Grade E is the mildest, just causing numbness in a particular area.”

”So what’s his condition now?” Mr. Yu pressed further.

Qian quietly observed the films, seemingly having a thought.

”I can’t explain it clearly to someone like you. Simply put, Li Zhen’s film results are not even grade E, and he should recover with rest. However... his current condition is already at the most severe level, with no sensation, unable to care for his own bowel movements.”

For a young man, this is the world’s cruelest situation, devoid of dignity, even unable to address basic excretion without external help. For a young man, this is a devastating blow, and those with weaker mental endurance might succumb to depression or even choose death.

Mrs. Yu’s words plunged everyone into silence.

Qian took the film from Mrs. Yu’s hands and asked the doctor several professional questions, which the doctor answered one by one. Mrs. Yu, puzzled, asked Qian.

”Aren’t you studying psychology? How do you know these things?”

Qian didn’t directly respond to Mrs. Yu; instead, she continued questioning the doctor.

”So, from your examination results, Li Zhen’s body shouldn’t be in this condition, right? I’m referring to the physiological status.”

”Yes, we don’t understand why either; we’re holding an emergency meeting. There’s no precedent for this condition domestically, so there’s nothing to refer to. Would you consider transferring him overseas for more detailed examination?”

”Our mighty nation, with thousands of years of traditional Chinese medicine, how can there be nothing to treat this? Everything has to depend on those foreigners. When our ancestors treated illnesses with needles, what were those people doing?”

Mrs. Yu glared at Mr. Yu, ”Take back your narrow-minded thoughts; treating the child is urgent. If you can’t help, don’t meddle!”

Mr. Yu grunted, full of dissatisfaction in his heart, believing the moon of his own country to be rounder than abroad.

Qian already had an idea in mind.

”No need to go abroad.”

”Qian, what did you say?” Mrs. Yu asked, surprised.

”I now have a preliminary idea, but to be sure, I need to see Li Zhen first. I’ll go see him now, and once I come out, I’ll explain the detailed plan to you all.”

Qian’s words left the elders looking at each other in puzzlement, unsure of her intentions.

Qian didn’t explain further, entering the hospital room with the doctor’s guidance. Li Zhen was awake, staring intently at the ceiling, his expression calm, not at all like someone who suffered a great blow.

He was so calm as if he had seen through everything in the world, and the gaze he directed at the ceiling seemed like he was exploring another world’s entrance.

Seeing his expression, Qian felt a pang in her heart.

Apparently, Li Zhen didn’t want to live anymore.

As someone who understands human emotions and has seen various psychological disorders, Qian can quickly discern abnormal psychological reactions. Li Zhen is in his prime, yet faced with such a situation. If at this moment he could be irritable, to vent anger, or to engage in extreme behavior, it would be a normal reaction, but him being so calm, like a monk who has attained enlightenment beyond earthly concerns, this is alarming.

”You’re here.” Li Zhen, seeing Qian come in, retracted his gaze and greeted Qian calmly.
