Chapter 696: Chapter 574 ”Freedom”_1

First, there was a dog. Then, there was a truck... And finally, everyone saw it—a dog pulling a truck across the sky!

A wolfdog and a truck, soaring through the heavens at incredible speed. As it passed, it plowed a deep furrow through the dark clouds, like the sea parting to either side.

In the glow of the setting sun, the scene was almost like Santa Claus arriving, the atmosphere utterly dreamlike.

Bloodied rainwater constantly splashed down from the truck, and the driver looked far from benevolent. Otherwise, one might have thought they had entered a fairy tale world.

But this was irrelevant to Liz.

Even if the gates of the Heavenly Kingdom were to open at this moment, and real Saints with wings and halos were to fly out singing hymns, they could not stop her ”Offensive”.

Even if the world were to end in the next moment, she would still take this bastard’s head. If the world were to end in half an hour, she would grind this bastard to dust and scatter his ashes. She might even take the time to polish his skull into a drinking cup.

No matter what, only one thing would not change.

—Huai Shi must die!!!

In that instant, Huai Shi, who lay on the ground, suddenly dissipated. Numerous afterimages split from his body, dashing in all directions. Yet, before these spreading afterimages could fully disperse, they were torn to shreds as if thrown into a meat grinder.

Even Huai Shi, in the midst of his Shadow Burial Shuttle, suddenly lost his target. He was forcibly ejected from the transfer, materializing in mid-air.

Then he saw it: a sword blade, close at hand.

From the hands of Ten Thousand Chiefs Avery, the heavy Teutonic Great Sword had been lifted. It was raised so simply in the air, like a tree stump waiting for a rabbit to crash into it.

Right now, I’m that foolish rabbit, Huai Shi thought, easily driven to a dead end. I don’t even know what happened. By the time he realized, it was already too late.

Ignoring the tearing pain from his destroyed afterimages, Huai Shi forcibly activated the Shadow Burial Shuttle in the last instant, reappearing awkwardly dozens of meters away.

A cold sensation touched his chest. Without looking, he knew Avery’s Heavy Sword had pierced a gaping hole through him. A malicious, bloody light spread from it, hissing as it scorched his Buried Sacred Place.

And then, he found... he had actually returned to his original position. Back in front of Liz’s Stone Tooth Sword.

Passageways lay in all directions, yet with Avery standing there, every path became a dead end. Only the simplest of choices remained: Move forward, and a sword awaits. Move backward, and still, a sword awaits. But I can choose between them. Or I could just stand here dumbstruck and choose to face them both.

This terrifying, almost crushing pressure made Huai Shi feel as if he’d fallen into an icy abyss. The power of a Fourth Stage cultivator easily guided his reactions, turning him into a puppet in their hands, helpless as they prepared to carve him up.

But at least he still had one last choice—

In that instant, Huai Shi moved forward. Towards the descending Stone Tooth Sword, he drew his Sacrificial Knife.

—Dragon!

A high-pitched cry erupted as brilliant light flared and steel clashed, the roars overlapping. It was impossible to count the collisions in that instant; only a piercing shriek assaulted everyone’s eardrums.

The Stone Tooth Sword, filled with rage, faltered, surprisingly driven back. Liz stepped back. Huai Shi had won a momentary respite, even if only for an instant.

Because Avery was already hot on his heels. He stepped onto Huai Shi’s shadow, as if pinning a prisoner to the beheading block. The Teutonic Great Sword in his hand rose, aimed at Huai Shi’s neck from afar, and swept across!

In front of Huai Shi, the Stone Tooth Sword shrieked once more and stabbed straight at him! After a brief respite, he still faced certain death!

But he had, after all, bought himself this critical moment.

A shrill horn blared suddenly.

In the sky, amidst a barrage of artillery fire, the roaring truck plummeted. Pulled by the pixelated wolfdog, it drifted sharply, shedding its cumbersome armor plating. The truck bed then opened to reveal a hidden cannon, which spat fire.

The scorching Alchemy bomb locked onto Averson, speeding towards the narrow hangar doors. The devastating losses, should it explode inside, were easy to imagine.

The cleaving Heavy Sword paused for a negligible instant. Averson had drawn a dagger from his belt and, without looking up, flung it skyward.

The dagger, so plain it was unremarkable, flew from his hand. The sound of its passage was a low thrum that became a sonic boom, white ripples spreading as it broke the sound barrier. Intense friction made it blaze with incandescent light.

The Alchemy bomb froze in mid-air, split clean in two down the middle. A terrifying explosion then blossomed outwards, only to be torn apart itself. The dagger shot from the flames, punched through the driver’s side windshield with unstoppable force, shredded the driver’s seat, and embedded itself in the truck’s cabin, humming ominously.

Beneath the driver’s seat, Raymond was curled into a ball, wiping cold sweat from his forehead, Still as sharp as ever, Teacher...

The instant Averson attacked, blood-red flames erupted from beneath his Armor. They coalesced behind him into a vivid, ferocious projection, like an Evil God descending to trample heaven and earth.
