Apocalypse Escape: Day One of Survival

Xu Yu was likely frightened by the vehemence of the rebuke. Her mouth hung open and her eyes were wide; she was speechless for a long while.

She just clutched her chest, looking as if she were about to stop breathing.

”You think just because everyone in the team is scared of you and yields to you, and everyone in the shelter respects and envies you, that you’ve really become the center of the universe?”

”You think a Sixth-rank Superpower User is going to yield to you? Let me tell you, one slap from them and you’d be dead. What’s the point of even breathing now?”

”You wanted Lin Yiyi to get that Spiritual System Mutated Bird. Was it really to boost the team’s strength? It was for yourself!” Zhuang Jia stated bluntly.

”You hang around a ’child’ like Lin Yiyi, who has no moral compass, all day long. Have you become an idiot? Do you just think all the good things in the world belong to you two?”

”Captain Xie already clearly tamed that Mutated Bird, and you people are still fantastically trying to butt in. Is there something wrong with you? You’re seriously messed up, I’m telling you.”

”Xu Yu, you’re the center of your own universe. What kind of values can you possibly teach Lin Yiyi? That child is truly ruined in your hands. You’ll only lead her further astray, down a path of no return.”

Xu Yu trembled with rage, her lips opening and closing. Her face went deathly pale, and she was so furious she could barely choke out a single word.

Zhuang Lei’s expression was incredibly grim.

He hadn’t expected his own sister to disrespect Xu Yu so thoroughly in front of so many team members.

In his old-fashioned view, Xu Yu was the woman under his protection. Disrespecting Xu Yu was the same as disrespecting him, Zhuang Lei.

This was something he absolutely could not tolerate, nor would he ever allow.

In the entire Swift Leopard Team, he was supposed to hold a position of unshakable authority, and everyone was supposed to obey his orders.

No wonder Xu Yu was always in his ear, telling him he needed to pay more attention to this sister of his.

It was entirely possible that one day, this sister would just take a whole load of supplies, her husband, and a portion of the team, and just leave.

Sure enough, Zhuang Jia had long since turned against him.

’Since when?’

Zhuang Lei stared at his own sister with ice-cold eyes, a venomous snake in his heart slowly devouring what little reason he had left.

”Zhuang Jia, are you really set on opposing me?”

”Brother, how is this opposing you? I’m just...”

”Shut up!” Zhuang Lei didn’t let her continue, raising his hand and waving it dismissively. ”You’ve been planning this for a while, haven’t you?”

Zhuang Jia froze. ”What do you mean?”

”Still playing dumb with me!” Zhuang Lei sneered, his voice booming. ”Don’t you just want to split from us? No need to incite the other team members here.”

”Hand over all the supplies in your Space, and I’ll allow you to leave.”

As soon as Zhuang Lei’s words fell, Zhuang Jia’s eyes flew wide open. Her voice was trembling. ”B-Brother, you’re kicking us out... for this... this worthless woman?”

”That’s your sister-in-law!” Zhuang Lei roared. ”You have no manners at all, always calling her ’that woman.’ Do you even have any respect for me, your older brother?”

Seeing his wife trembling with rage, tears streaming down her face, Luo Yanan quickly stepped forward and put an arm around her shoulder. ”Captain Zhuang, did you learn how to burn bridges from Xu Yu?”

”We’ve contributed to this team for so long. Even if we haven’t earned great merits, we’ve certainly put in the hard work, right? What, you’re going to kick us out and let your own sister and brother-in-law starve to death?”

”Besides, haven’t you been taking precautions against us from the start? Xiao Zhang on the team is also a Space Ability User, and most of the supplies are with him. You think we didn’t know?”

Zhuang Lei’s gaze turned cold as he stared at Luo Yanan. ”If you weren’t inciting my sister all day long and meddling in the affairs of two women, would she be saying these things to me today?”

”Brother, if you want to split up, fine.” Zhuang Jia wiped her tears with the back of her hand and said with a cold expression, ”There’s barely anything left in my Space, and I’m not giving it up.”

”Furthermore, let all the members of the Swift Leopard Team choose for themselves whether they want to come with us or stay with you.”

The moment Zhuang Jia finished speaking, an astonishing two-thirds of the team rushed over to stand behind the couple.

When Zhuang Lei saw this, he was so furious he could have torn his hair out. Without another word, he aimed a palm strike through the air at where Zhuang Jia and her husband stood.

A row of earthen spikes instantly erupted from the ground beneath their feet.

Zhuang Jia and her husband were already on guard. Seeing her brother make his move, they immediately leaped aside.

As a result, Zhuang Lei’s earth spikes ended up affecting Li Dawei’s team, who were watching the drama unfold from the side...

Li Dawei cursed under his breath and led his team to dodge, shouting and grumbling, ”What the hell are you guys doing?”

”Everyone else is busy up at the front, and you people have the nerve to be infighting back here.”

Furious and resentful, Zhuang Lei glared with bloodshot eyes at the teammates who had run to Zhuang Jia’s side. ”You all better think this through.”

Li Dawei, who had watched the whole drama from start to finish, was more than happy to fan the flames. ”Hey now, brother, what’s there to think about? You’re a pretty lousy captain, offending all your teammates for some airheaded broad. No wonder your boys are running off!”

”Let me tell you, brother, don’t be a hothead and go looking for trouble. Our village’s Xie Ning is not some minor character you guys can afford to provoke.”

”Exactly. Some people are just too greedy. A High-level Spiritual Mutation Bird like that—could that kid in your team even tame it? Aren’t you tired, coveting things that don’t belong to you all day?” Ge Yan pursed her lips.

”Just focus on living a quiet life. You should be glad our base has a Sixth Rank powerhouse like Xie Ning holding down the fort. When the big shots charge ahead, all we have to do is play support from the back.”

Uncle Ge Liang declared with righteous gravity, ”Captain, you’re getting better and better with words.”

”Of course. I haven’t been practicing for over a year for nothing.”

Xie Ning knew nothing about the ruckus behind her—the fighting, the cursing, the infighting.

Xie Ning picked up an iron box of golden beads, pulled the hastily arriving Yu Tianfeng aside, and asked him for the newly developed smell medicine.

It had to be said, Yu Tianfeng was truly a genius.

Not only had he developed a medicine that could mask the scent of humans, but it could also be deployed into a horde of zombies, making it impossible for the brain-dead creatures to distinguish between human and zombie.

”I don’t know if the dosage is enough. Add some more. That way, when it explodes, the medicine can be dispersed over a large area.” Yu Tianfeng gave instructions from the side, repeatedly urging her to add more.

”This stuff isn’t hard to make, so use it boldly and without reserve.”

Xie Ning reached out and patted the parrot’s head. ”Are they all summoned?”

The Mutated Bird nodded pitifully, as if under great pressure, its bird life looking quite bleak.

”Open the laser protection shield.”

”Wow, they’re actually coming down in an orderly fashion!”

Xie Ning had the little parrot handle communication, telling each Mutated Bird to come down, grab a few Gold Pearls, and fly toward the battlefield below.

As a thick fog began to rise, Xie Ning planned to hit them with something big.

”Tell your minions to fly steady. And don’t group up too much. Try to spread out as you disperse the medicine.”
