Apocalypse Escape: Day One of Survival

”Alright, it’s settled,” Li Dawei declared with a wave of his hand.

The rest area the base had set up for everyone nearby was a block of container homes. Naturally, the smell wasn’t great.

But it would be fine for a few hours of makeshift rest.

At a time like this, when everyone was exhausted, no one was going to be picky.

Just as Li Dawei and his people arrived at the container homes, they saw Song Kexin standing there, staring at them with a blank expression.

”What do you want?” Li Dawei took a half-step back, his guilt showing. He eyed her warily. ”We didn’t do anything to offend you just now.”

Li Xiang wanted nothing more than to walk up and kick his brother. He hissed in a low voice, ”What are you panicking for?”

’He acts like he’s done so many shady things that anyone he sees looks like they’re here to cause trouble!’

Li Dawei didn’t even blush. He’d already lost so much face in front of the Starfire Team that he was used to it.

This was a classic case of a dead pig not fearing boiling water.

So what if he lost face? In the end, it was all the same.

Song Kexin rolled her eyes at him, walked a few steps closer, and tossed him a small bag. ”Here. Now I don’t owe you anything.”

After saying her piece, she turned on her heel with a huff and ran off to her own container room to rest.

Li Dawei was completely baffled. He looked down at the bag in his hand.

He opened it and froze.

”Whoa!” Li Xiang and the others all crowded around him, their hands scrambling for the Crystal Cores in the bag. ”So many Third-stage Crystal Cores.”

Xu Bailiang couldn’t help but laugh. ”That Miss Song really is a person of principle.”

”With this many Crystal Cores, there must be over a hundred, right?”

Li Dawei weighed it in his hand. ”Two hundred.”

His grades had been terrible his whole life, but he was exceptionally fast at counting money. You could call it Li Dawei’s specialty.

The whole team instantly broke into wide smiles.

Uncle Ge Liang patted Li Dawei’s shoulder and gave him a meaningful look. ”Dawei, I used to think you weren’t much of anything, but now I see you’re a real talent.”

Ge Yan patted Li Dawei’s arm and gave him a thumbs-up. ”A talent.”

With that, the father-daughter duo turned and went to claim a room. Li Dawei scratched his head, frowning. ”I don’t think they were complimenting me.”

Everyone held back their laughter and hurried off to the container homes to rest.

When Xie Ning woke up, it was already seven in the evening.

She sat up, rubbing her forehead. For a long moment, she stared blankly at the door of her small partition, her sluggish mind slowly rebooting and forming coherent thoughts.

She reached out and pushed the door open, only to find the main control room floor filled with injured people. Medical staff and Healing Ability Users were rushing to treat them.

”Hey, are there any wheelchairs here? Crutches would work too. A few of the injured have trouble with their legs and need...” The person who had rushed in speaking made eye contact with Xie Ning and quickly forced a smile. ”Captain Xie, you’re here too.”

”Mr. Gao.” Xie Ning gave him a slight nod.

Gao Zhiquan gave a silly laugh and scratched the back of his head.

As a P.E. teacher at East University, he never would have dreamed that one of his students would one day become the world’s number one Gold Ability User.

Gao Zhiquan didn’t dare act high and mighty in front of her and was exceedingly polite. ”Captain Xie, did you rest well?”

Xie Ning nodded. ”Well enough. Mr. Gao, did you just say you needed wheelchairs and crutches?”

”Oh, right, right, right.” Gao Zhiquan scratched his head. ”A few of the injured are having trouble getting around. They’re insisting on staying active and refusing to leave the front lines, despite their injuries. We can’t do anything about it.”

”They’re bandaged up, but we can’t just let them worsen their injuries. It would be better if they had wheelchairs or crutches.”

A few technicians nearby looked apologetic. ”Someone already came asking. We’ve contacted a few Space Ability Users, and they all said they don’t have any.”

”Sigh.” Someone couldn’t help but sigh.

Gao Zhiquan wasn’t too disappointed, though.

After the apocalypse, everyone was busy scrambling for food and supplies. Who would bother taking up space with something so impractical?

Xie Ning glanced at Gao Zhiquan, her expression unchanged. ”Teacher, I have some.”

As she spoke, two wheelchairs and several pairs of brand-new crutches appeared right next to Gao Zhiquan.

Gao Zhiquan froze, and everyone else in the main control room stared in stunned silence for a moment.

A technician directly opposite him slapped his thigh happily. ”That’s right! Captain Xie is a Space Ability User, too!”

By now, they had all more or less learned that Space Ability Users weren’t just mobile warehouses; they could also be effective in combat.

Like Captain Xie and the Starfire Team’s Ji Taixian, whose offensive capabilities with the Space System were known to be quite impressive.

Just then, someone else came rushing in from outside. ”Hey, Xiao Li, Xiao Li, h-help me contact a few Space Ability Users. The infirmary is out of gauze, a-and disposable syringes. Do they have any?”

The speaker was wearing a white coat and was covered in sweat. He was panting as he spoke, looking utterly exhausted.

The technician who had just slapped his thigh stood up. ”Medical supplies have always been scarce. Even if I contact them now, we might not get much. Just have the Healing Ability Users hurry up with the treatments.”

”There’s no time!” the man in the white coat snapped. ”We were just attacked by a flock of Mutated Birds, and over twenty people were injured. We can’t just stand by and watch them bleed to death.”

”If we can give them a shot and bandage them up, they can at least hold on for a while longer until a Healing Ability User can get to them.”

”Besides, the Healing Ability Users... they, ugh, they aren’t miracle workers. Their energy... there isn’t enough to go around.”

The man in the white coat said so much in one breath that he felt like he was about to collapse, completely out of air.

Xie Ning walked over to him and silently handed him a box of gauze.

The man in the white coat took it, looking dazed, and managed a dry, ”Thank you.” The technician, Xiao Li, watched with wide eyes.

’I’m starting to realize that this Captain Xie is basically an all-purpose mobile warehouse.’

Xie Ning then produced a box of disposable syringes. ”Want me to help you carry it over?”

”Huh? Oh, yes, yes, good!” The man in the white coat was stunned for a second, then nodded rapidly, pulling a smile onto his face. ”Thank you, young lady. You’re a real lifesaver.”

Xie Ning, who had just been inexplicably handed a ’good person card,’ glanced at him without any change in her expression. ”Yes, I am a good person.”

The technician, Xiao Li, silently twitched the corner of his mouth, finding their exchange a bit ridiculous.

Hugging the box of gauze, the man in the white coat gestured for Xie Ning to follow him out the door. ”Come on, young lady, this way. You’re a Space Ability User too, right? What else do you have in there? Do you, do you have any empty medicine vials?”

”Any medical equipment?”

”What kind of medical equipment do you need?” Xie Ning asked, her face a mask. ”I’ll have to look for it.”

”Great, great, I’ll write you a list.”

Xie Ning: ???

’This guy gets friendly way too fast,’ she thought.

The man in the white coat led Xie Ning to the medical room next door.

The moment Xie Ning stepped inside, she was hit by a dizzying wave of smells—a mixture of blood and something rank.

The iron-frame beds and even the floor were crowded with people.

Several people in white coats weaved through the wounded, so busy they were practically running off their feet.

’They’re the real heroes,’ Xie Ning thought with a sigh. She followed the man in the white coat inside and placed the box of disposable syringes where he pointed.
