Apocalypse Escape: Day One of Survival

Feng Lijian’s heart, however, was pounding in his chest.

He had known Gu Chen for many years and understood his personality far better than his sister did.

Gu Chen might have seemed like he was in his element, calling all the old folks ”grandpa” and ”grandma,” but in reality, his personality was quite cold.

This was the first time Feng Lijian had seen him so invested in a girl, and he had a sinking feeling that today’s situation was not good.

In Gu Chen’s eyes, his status had already been demoted from ”brother” to ”mere colleague.” If this went on, he felt like he might not even be able to maintain the ”mere colleague” status...

This sister of his... she was more of a hindrance than a help. He was at a loss for words!

”Chen, Jia Min is just being immature. She didn’t mean to offend Miss Xie.” Feng Lijian could only apologize and take the blame for his sister again.

But Feng JiaMin couldn’t accept her brother’s apology at all. She glared at him. ”Why are you apologizing? What did I say that was wrong? I think Chen has been Poisoned by Gu! Yes, that must be it. Why else would he be acting like a completely different person... Mmph, mmph!”

Before Feng JiaMin could finish, Feng Lijian clamped a hand over her mouth and began forcefully dragging her outside.

”Chen, I’ll take her outside first. I’ll arrange for someone to take over the shift at the city wall later.” Feng Lijian spoke carefully, constantly glancing at Gu Chen’s darkening expression.

”Hey, don’t run off. Let her finish what she was saying. Poisoned by what Gu? Let her talk,” Xie Ning said, striding toward the door with a mocking expression. ”Miss Feng, would you like to check my ID? All eighteen generations of my ancestors are Han Chinese. What does that have to do with the Gu arts of Miaojiang?”

Feng Lijian forced a smile. ”You’re joking, Miss Xie. My sister is just talking out of anger. Please, forgive her.”

Xie Ning sneered. ”Feng JiaMin, didn’t you want to challenge me? I accept.”

Feng Lijian panicked, his pupils constricting. ”No, she didn’t! Captain Xie, what kind of joke is this? My sister is only a Third Rank...”

”I’m about to advance to the Fourth Rank!” Feng JiaMin forcefully pried Feng Lijian’s hand away and let out a deep breath. ”Fine! Let’s go to the training room and spar right now!”

Feng JiaMin was dead set on this. She had to test Xie Ning’s strength to get over her frustration.

”Jia Min!” Feng Lijian grabbed her arm in exasperation. ”What nonsense are you spouting? She’s a Sixth Rank Gold Element, and you’re only a Third Rank.”

”I’m almost at the Fourth Rank!”

”So what if you’re Fourth Rank? That’s still two ranks lower than her!” Feng Lijian dragged his sister back, furious at her for not living up to her potential. ”Are you just asking for a beating? Is that it? Will you only calm down after you’ve been thoroughly thrashed?”

A Fourth Rank against a Sixth Rank? It would be a slaughter!

Xie Ning was already annoyed with his sister; she definitely wouldn’t hold back later.

If this continued, his sister would end up dead or crippled!

”Can’t you have a little faith in me, brother?!” Feng JiaMin angrily swatted Feng Lijian’s hand away.

”Am I that weak?”

”I’ve been training since I was a kid!” Feng JiaMin glanced at Xie Ning, raised her eyebrows, and snorted. ”So what if her superpower is strong? The teachers at the Academy taught us how to challenge those of a higher rank. What’s wrong with me giving it a try?”

Feng Lijian laughed in exasperation.

”Your Academy teachers are only Third or Fourth Rank themselves! Have they ever challenged a Sixth Rank?!”

’Absolute nonsense!’

’Are the teachers at the Superpower Academy really that much of a sham?’

”So what if they haven’t!” Feng JiaMin’s confidence was through the roof. ”Then I’ll be the first person to successfully challenge someone of a higher rank! Once I succeed, I believe...”

”Stop daydreaming!” Feng Lijian threw cold water on her hopes, grabbing his sister to turn her around. ”You’re coming with me, right now!”

”This is none of your business, brother!” Feng JiaMin forcefully shook off Feng Lijian’s hand, turned to Xie Ning, and looked down on her with contempt. ”Let’s go! To the training room!”

Xie Ning watched the siblings’ incessant squabbling with a deadpan expression, then said impatiently, ”Are you two done yet? If we’re not fighting, I’m going back to bed.”

”Of course we’re fighting! Why wouldn’t we?” Feng JiaMin crossed her arms and jutted her chin toward the stairwell. ”Don’t tell me you’re getting cold feet and backing out now.”

”You’re pretty confident,” Xie Ning said with a faint smile. ”Forget the training room. We’ll do it right here! Daddy will beat you until you’re on your knees begging for mercy!”

The moment the words left her mouth, she lunged at Feng JiaMin.

Her speed was so startling that even Feng Lijian subconsciously took a small step back.

Xie Ning was already on her, a long Metal Spike grazing past Feng JiaMin’s ear.

It nearly pierced right through it.

Although it had missed its mark, Feng JiaMin felt a sharp sting from her ear.

She reached up and touched it, her hand coming away covered in blood from below her earlobe.

”You ambushed me again!!!” Feng JiaMin was absolutely furious.

’This Xie Ning is definitely crazy,’ she thought. ’Attacking someone in the middle of a conversation—she has no sense of martial honor whatsoever!’

Xie Ning turned and flung out dozens of Golden Needles. She closed the distance, her fingers transforming into ten more Golden Needles that she stabbed directly at Feng JiaMin’s neck.

A cold sweat broke out over Feng JiaMin. As she stumbled backward, she hastily summoned her Metal Shield to block the relentless, shadow-like attacks.

BOOM! The Metal Shield was shattered by Xie Ning in an instant.

Feng JiaMin could only unconsciously and continuously form one Metal Shield after another, using them to block Xie Ning’s claws, stabs, and brutal strikes as she was forced back step by step!

All the onlookers ran out, crowding both sides of the hallway, their eyes wide and dazzled by the display.

They could only marvel at how fast Captain Xie was moving.

Often, in the blink of an eye, she would be right in front of Feng JiaMin. Feng JiaMin had nowhere left to retreat, and the final Metal Shield in her hand was instantly shattered into two pieces by a single swipe of Xie Ning’s claws.

”Ah!”

Feng JiaMin, panicked and enraged, felt her anger surge. It felt like Xie Ning was just playing with her!

’So this is the difference between a Fourth Rank and a Sixth Rank,’ she thought. ’A truly insurmountable chasm?’

’Damn it, damn it, damn it!’

Feng Lijian was shouting nonstop from the sidelines, ”Captain Xie, please show mercy! Captain Xie, spare her! Captain Xie!”

”Stop shouting.” Lu Wei gave him a look, unable to watch any longer. ”If Ningning had wanted to kill your sister, she could have done it with her first move.”

Feng Lijian fell silent. The corners of his mouth drooped, his expression unreadable.

But one could guess he wasn’t feeling very good.

Having such a troublemaking sister was exhausting. He felt like a fire captain, constantly running around to put out her fires, cleaning up her messes, and begging for forgiveness from anyone and everyone. He’d really had enough.

CLANG! CLANG! CLANG! With one swipe, Xie Ning bent the Metal Knife that Feng JiaMin swung at her. She glanced at her opponent’s pale face and raised an eyebrow. ”Out of energy already?”

’What’s going on?’ she wondered. ’My superpower energy has barely budged, but she’s already out?’

’This is like a PVP match where your opponent runs out of mana after three moves, isn’t it?’

’What’s the point of fighting anymore!’

’Ridiculous!’

Xie Ning threw a punch, aiming straight for Feng JiaMin’s face. ”Have you had enough? Call me Daddy!”

The corners of the onlookers’ mouths twitched.

Just as Feng Lijian was about to cry out and beg for mercy, he saw Feng JiaMin’s foot slip...
