Apocalypse Escape: Day One of Survival

Xu Yu, who was standing beside Lin Yiyi, was naturally the first to notice the change in her expression.

She also fancied that Spiritual System Mutated Bird.

If Lin Yiyi could subdue this Mutated Bird, it would add another layer of protection to their team.

She was just a Water Ability User with little combat prowess.

The gentle Water Element wasn’t as strong as other Attack System superpowers.

So during normal combat, Xu Yu could only provide logistical support for the team.

Because Lin Yiyi was relatively young, she always stuck by her side, helping with logistics as well.

In other words, a stronger Lin Yiyi was also a form of security for her, Xu Yu.

So, when she saw the look of sheer determination in Lin Yiyi’s eyes, Xu Yu didn’t think anything was amiss. On the contrary, she felt the child was quite ambitious.

The only problem was that the mutated parrot was in the hands of that woman, Xie Ning, which made things difficult.

”Xu Yu, what are you thinking?” Zhuang Lei’s sister, Zhuang Jia, noticed Xu Yu’s wavering gaze with just a cursory glance.

Following her line of sight, Zhuang Jia couldn’t help but sneer, ”Is Miss Xu fantasizing about something she shouldn’t be again?”

’Has this Xu Yu lost her mind, scheming to snatch something from a Sixth-rank Superpower User?’

Xu Yu glanced at Zhuang Jia. ”Zhuang Jia, why do you have to pick a fight with me all day long? Brother Lei.”

”Alright, alright.” Zhuang Lei, always caught between his teammate and his girlfriend, waved his hand, thoroughly annoyed. ”Why are you two always arguing? Wouldn’t it be fine if you both just said one less thing?”

Zhuang Jia sneered and rolled her eyes. ”Brother, I’m not trying to give you a hard time, but you’d better advise that girlfriend of yours not to go too far.”

”She’s always causing trouble for our team. It’s not fair to everyone else.”

”Zhuang Jia, what do you mean? When have I ever caused trouble for the team? Make yourself clear.” Xu Yu’s suppressed anger instantly exploded.

Just as she was about to grab Zhuang Jia to argue, she saw Lin Yiyi step forward, walk straight up to Xie Ning’s group, and suddenly give a deep bow.

Everyone on the scene had been watching the parrot squawk wildly. Now, seeing a girl in her early teens suddenly walk out and bow to Xie Ning’s group, they were all stunned.

Xie Ning remained expressionless. She glanced at Lin Yiyi, then continued what she was doing, grabbing the parrot by the head to scold it. ”You have one minute. The countdown starts now.”

”Can’t you calm down?” The parrot extended a wing, pointing at the sky in a very human-like manner. ”See for yourself.”

Everyone looked up.

Sure enough, the flock of birds, which had resembled a dark cloud, was slowly retreating in all directions.

No more Mutated Birds were gathering, and no more flocks were suicidally diving down to attack.

”You’re just a stupid parrot, and you want to be king of the mountain, entering the city to become the bird king?” Xie Ning slapped the top of the parrot’s head. ”What were you thinking?”

”What do you know? I am the Bird God! I am the most ambitious bird of all the Mutated Birds. You wouldn’t understand!”

Several of Gu Chen’s teammates couldn’t hold back their laughter, completely amused by the ridiculous parrot.

”Captain, I can’t take it anymore.”

”Captain, this parrot is too human-like.”

”Could it be a parrot spirit? Or... maybe a human soul transmigrated into its body?”

Gu Chen: ...

’His teammates certainly had creative ideas. Too bad animals weren’t allowed to turn into spirits after the founding of the nation.’

Xie Ning patted the parrot’s head. ”Do you want to be steamed or braised?”

”I don’t want either! Miss, just let me go free, and I’ll give you back a blue sky.”

The parrot’s high, thin voice was almost sing-song, and even Xie Ning couldn’t help but want to laugh internally.

’This parrot is insane.’

”Ningning, you have to admit, as the leader of the Mutated Bird flock, this parrot is actually quite thoughtful and has impressive appeal and leadership skills.”

Besides, this stupid parrot always led its flock of Mutated Birds to attack by taking advantage of the laser shield’s recharge time, showing a real knack for opportunism.

They said it had leadership skills because whenever everyone was desperately firing into the sky and the flock was on the verge of defeat, it would always organize its minions to secretly flee, only to make a comeback later.

Even the flock of Mutated Birds wanted to occupy the base; it was clear the mutated plants outside weren’t about to be left behind.

To these mutated creatures, the human race was probably just a fat piece of meat on a chopping block, waiting to be devoured.

Xie Ning turned around, her hand gripping the parrot’s long, thin neck.

Lin Yiyi suddenly dashed in front of her and gave her another deep bow.

Xie Ning instinctively sidestepped. ”What are you doing?”

’What kind of psycho is this, suddenly jumping out and bowing to me repeatedly?’

’Such bad juju!’

”Sister, I’m a Beast Taming Superpower User! I can tame this Mutated Bird!” Lin Yiyi blurted out in a single breath, as if terrified she wouldn’t agree.

”If I can successfully tame this Mutated Bird, would you be willing to give this mutated parrot to me, Sister?”

’There was no other way. She had run out from the crowd and bowed to them, but those arrogant, complacent, self-important, and extravagant jerks—Xie Ning and her group—hadn’t even given her a proper look, let alone said a single word to her.’

’So she had no choice but to muster her courage again and rush in front of them, forcing them to open their damn eyes and finally see her.’

Lin Yiyi’s voice still held a sincere, childish tone. Although it was a bit loud, it sounded soft and delicate enough.

The gazes of many in the crowd turned toward her.

Xie Ning watched her with a half-smile, her gaze sizing her up with a hint of mockery.

She had a strong impression of this deeply calculating girl.

It had to be said, the kid had some luck, managing to escape her clutches and survive until now.

She had almost forgotten the girl existed, but here she was, inexplicably jumping in front of her to demand attention.

”You’re that little girl, aren’t you? The one who summons zombie animals to attack humans.”

With that one sentence from Xie Ning, the expression on everyone’s face changed.

Zhuang Lei’s face, in particular, instantly darkened.

’What does she mean, ”the little girl who summons zombie animals to attack humans”?’

’Does Captain Xie have any idea what kind of backlash an accusation like that will cause for a little girl like Lin Yiyi?’

’If she doesn’t want to give up the Mutated Bird, then fine, but she shouldn’t say such disgusting things to hurt Lin Yiyi.’

Given Xie Ning’s current status and reputation in the base, the moment she spoke, the gazes of the onlooking Superpower Users all shifted.

The way they stared at Lin Yiyi gradually became unsettling.

It was the wary look one gives a sociopath.

’Does she have any idea how much words like that can affect a child?!’

’Just because the child spoke up hopefully and asked a simple question, Xie Ning has to deal her such a fatal blow?’

’Is she even human?’

Tears instantly streamed down Lin Yiyi’s face.

Xu Yu immediately shrieked and rushed forward frantically, pulling Lin Yiyi into a tight hug.
