Facing an Ancient God for a Year

Chapter 2375: Chapter 2370: The Overly Enthusiastic Volunteer

”Morning, Professor Fu.”

Even though ”a day’s plan lies in the morning,” it’s rare for young people to actually live by that.

Having changed into a more casual outfit, as Fu Qian quietly gazed at the morning light outside the window, Miss Liushuang’s greeting came very quickly.

These days, for Fu Qian, the experience of resting in peace and quiet had become increasingly scarce.

But after sending the visitors off yesterday, he was still very quick to adapt, quite comfortably enjoying a brief moment of leisure.

The latter half of the night was even surprisingly quiet; Engraving Wisdom didn’t act up again, nor did anyone suddenly jump out.

Of course, Fu Qian also didn’t deliberately sleep a full eight hours; he still got up very early, playing the role of a good example for the youngsters.

”There’ll be food delivered in a bit, want to have breakfast together?”

Encouraged, Miss Liushuang was already sitting down to the side, and before Fu Qian could say anything, she volunteered the invitation.

”Sure.”

Quite easygoing, Fu Qian turned his head as he spoke, only to see the Research Assistant staring at him, smiling brightly.

”A balance of work and rest really is important. After a bit of a break I feel much better.”

Seeing her supervisor looking at her, Ji Liushuang casually explained the reason for her good spirits.

Though that line could just as well be used to comment on the person across from her.

”Very good. So what’s your plan after breakfast?”

Fu Qian naturally picked up on that kind of detail; with a slight nod he didn’t forget to ask after their work, and in passing greeted Wen Li, who had only come downstairs a little later.

She too looked like she’d had a decent rest, eyes bright, full of energy.

”I should go to the academy. I probably won’t have time to help out at Professor Lisa’s place today.”

In response to his question, Miss Liushuang, wearing an apologetic expression, indeed chose to prioritize her studies, saying she had to go put in work at the Swordsmanship Department today.

”No need to worry about that, I can go help.”

Feeling gratified, Fu Qian waved his hand to indicate she didn’t need to be concerned.

Huh?

Even Wen Li, who hadn’t quite finished sitting down yet, couldn’t help but look stunned.

”What’s wrong? You were going to go help too?”

Fu Qian gave her a puzzled look.

”No, I definitely have to go over to Linghui today... I just feel like not even Professor Lisa would’ve seen this coming.”

Sure enough, Wen Li hurriedly shook her head. While also prioritizing her studies, she stated that Professor Fu’s diligence was truly a bit beyond expectations.

Of course, as far as Fu Qian was concerned, whether it was her or Miss Liushuang, what really surprised them was probably his ”neglecting his proper job.”

After all, with how much noise those visitors made yesterday, it would’ve been hard for them not to hear something—like Professor Ah Kai’s disappearance, for example.

All he could say was, ah, youngsters... how is a project like the storage room, which so perfectly embodies the spirit of the academy, ”neglecting your proper job”?

Especially since they still had to wait a bit longer for the Burial Scroll to finish cooling down.

...

”Hello, Professor Fu.”

As expected, the one delivering breakfast was Jia Keke.

And even though it was ”just breakfast,” it was clearly done without any sloppiness.

But she seemed a little unprepared for the leader’s leader to actually be here; when she greeted him there was even a faint nervousness.

”Thanks for your hard work.”

The response she got a second later only made her more nervous.

Looking her over carefully, Professor Fu wore a mysterious smile.

Last time, this woman had apparently been chosen by Her Excellency the Needle Witch as a vessel, to check his reality up close.

So upon seeing her again, it was very easy to be reminded that there was still an appointment with the Night Watchman that had never been kept.

Meanwhile, in his vision-radar at this moment, this person was already back to normal—by far the weakest one present as the eldest among them, and clearly completely unaware of what she’d gone through.

Of course, it wasn’t that there had been no improvement at all; a lot of things were relative.

Counting back, it actually hadn’t been long since they first met, and her condition had obviously sharpened quite a bit.

Not surprising. At this level of Transcendent, you generally don’t lack money anymore. Aside from enjoying the shade under a big tree, the pay from the Gospel Group had to be generous enough to make her happily work herself to the bone.

”It’s what I should do...”

No matter how easygoing he might look, Professor Fu’s pressure was still way too strong. With just a casual ”thanks for your hard work,” Lady Jia nearly couldn’t handle it; she could only force a stiff smile while helping lay out all the food.

Not bad.

Fu Qian very easily noticed that she’d even specially prepared a fish he liked, making this morning feel that much more pleasant.

...

”Why are you...”

Facts proved Wen Li right: faced with a volunteer worker showing up on her doorstep, Professor Lisa was indeed a bit dumbfounded.

Breakfast had ultimately been all about convenience; whether it was the Research Assistant or Wen Li, their talk of needing to go study clearly hadn’t been just talk, and after a brief, lively meal they each went their own way.

True to his word, Fu Qian headed over to knock on Professor Lisa’s door—only for her to be so shocked that she forgot to invite him in for a moment.

”Here to help. Didn’t I say yesterday that that stuff was really interesting?”

Fu Qian didn’t mind, jerking his chin toward the inside.

From where he stood, he could see that Riet was already hard at work.

The youngster clearly took his newly found job very seriously.

”Seriously? You actually have the leisure for this?”

At his words, Professor Lisa’s eyes widened, looking somehow even more alarmed.

Although he had indeed performed amazingly later yesterday, with incredible efficiency, she clearly hadn’t expected a Demigod volunteer to show up again today.

Was he really that interested in those brain-twisting things?

Given his many days of odd behavior and his shared weird tastes with Cass, it wasn’t entirely impossible, but... something still felt off.

”Not leisurely, but I am interested.”

All she got in reply was Fu Qian squinting at her with a smile, looking her up and down.

”...Then I’ll have to trouble you.”

Being stared at made her skin almost crawl, especially when his gaze landed on her neck.

At last, Lisa couldn’t take it anymore, stepping aside to let him in.

A free volunteer—no reason not to use him.

”Did you sleep well yesterday?”

She hadn’t expected him to let her off even after that. After walking over to the same spot and sitting down, Professor Fu even started making small talk with zero content value.

”It was fine... I only helped you apply for some materials, you don’t have to be this polite, do you?”

Lisa’s just-relaxed brows couldn’t help but wrinkle again, though her tone wasn’t overly harsh.

”Who are you? Who allowed you in here?”

Unfortunately, before Fu Qian could keep up the pleasantries, a much harsher voice cut in.

It wasn’t Riet sitting nearby. At some point, the door Lisa had closed had silently swung open again.

An old lady with a stern, even somewhat gloomy face stood there, her eyes flashing cold like a Dagger stabbing straight in.

Demigod.

From the moment he’d opened his eyes this morning until now, she was without a doubt the best performer on his vision-radar so far.
