Divine Emperor of Death

Chapter 5168: The Eighth Bastion City’s Incident

“As I said before, you can’t save someone. By the time you reach them, everything is already over. But I killed the City Lord the moment I appeared and protected Jillian from being violated. I also find her quite adorable, and our future prospects are not bad either. I’m thinking of taking her as one of my wives. What do you think? To protect her future, you won’t try to kill me again, right?”

“…” Venerable Knight Lussandra could only clench her fists.

The more she heard him talk, the more she couldn’t understand what happened with Jillian Hayden. She really couldn’t have chosen to save this menace out of her own Will, right?

“Your intent to save a person only goes this far. That’s understandable. However, it’s a shame since she pleaded for me to spare you.”

“Spare her.” Venerable Knight Lussandra waved her hand, his sleeve violently swaying, “If you are angry at me, take it out on me. Don’t you dare… please… do not harm her.”

Her voice cracked at the end in humiliation.

“Why do you care so much?” Davis scoffed.

“… Do I have to have a reason to save people who are suffering from undeserved violence and abuse?”

“I know, you feel guilty for not being able to save her, since I was precisely using it for my own gain to trap you. That’s a bad trait for a Heaven’s Warrior, but as a human, tch…”

Davis clicked his tongue, “Well then – let me see your sincerity. Slap yourself, cut off your hand, or cripple your meridians. You can choose any one of the three. All three are curable for people of our caliber, but the humiliation is undeniable. Let’s see how much you want to save her.”

“…”

Venerable Knight Lussandra shuddered ever so lightly.

Blood dripped from her lips as she staggered back and nearly collapsed. Her skin increasingly became rosier, but it wasn’t the healthy type since she had seemed to have crippled her meridians. Blood started pouring out of her skin pores as she seemed to have overwhelmed the meridian points with her energy, causing them to burst and consequently, explode inside her body as they harmed her organs and flesh.

“Is this sincerity enough?”

Her eyes turned bloodshot, but she didn’t look up to see him.

“How pretentious…”

Davis’s hateful voice descended, “I admire your courage and righteousness, but it isn’t helping anyone when you’re acting no different than those wretched slaves of the heavens. Can’t you see? No matter what you do, you’re not above fate. You were strung and dragged around by fate as you passed by me numerous times, unable to recognize me. Even the heavens aren’t helping you. Your intent to kill me for the sake of the universe is commendable, but you know in your heart that I won’t intentionally cause harm to the people, to Jillian, so why are you constantly on my ass instead of targeting so many other evil Divergents? If it isn’t to get rid of evil, is it to earn the Celestial Transcendent’s praise? To differentiate yourself from other Heaven’s Warriors? To end the Desolate Era?”

“…”

“Heh!” Davis scoffed with a piercing voice as he didn’t let her talk, “All you managed to earn is my ire. I wouldn’t have found fault if you just attacked me, but to touch my people, there’s really something wrong with your head. I welcome you trying to kill me, but before managing to seal me, don’t even think about touching my people. Even the Celestial Transcendent should understand this in his heart lest his poor son-in-law gets killed in cold blood by us.”

Venerable Knight Lussandra spat out blood, unable to contain the rampaging energy within her while her emotions ran high.

She raised her head and roared, “I never targeted your people! It’s your people who threw themselves in front of you…!”

“…” Davis paused, “You’re right. The first arrow was barely excusable, but the second arrow wasn’t.”

“…”

“I know.” He laughed wryly, “You think I’m funny with threatening you with my measly power when you only need one strike to kill me. However, the next time I see you in battle after I become powerful enough, I won’t hold back. You’ll meet the same fate as that dead Venerable Knight. So do your best to seal me before that.”

“…”

Venerable Knight Lussandra stared at the false skies.

She continued staring as she slowly calmed down, and the rampaging energy also calmed while she began working on healing herself after popping a healing pill into her mouth.

It wasn’t until a few minutes that the sealing space could no longer hold her within this vast space, and she appeared outside.

She saw Davis standing in front of her with a vague smile.

She was still confident in hunting him since she could still use her soul. However, she knew she could not succeed.

Instead, there were over a dozen Peak-Level Exalt Stage and Primarch Grade experts trying to seal the surroundings in a sealing formation using expensive formation flags, not knowing that the Divine Emperor of Death they saw was merely an illusion, and the Davis she saw was merely a manifestation of his Will.

It wasn’t even a soul body for her to employ karmic attacks against it.

His manifestation of his Will faded out of existence, and she raised her head to see the city-wide defensive formation activate under the curtain of dawn.

Outside the Eighth Bastion City, Davis looked towards the walls from a vast distance. It was barely a glowing dot in his vision.

“The final experiment I could do in this city has concluded. I could indeed make my Will appear in a space or even inside someone, like Accursed Warlock is capable of with his Malediction Laws. But I am not capable of appearing in them the moment they utter my name. Hmm, nonetheless, since I could impose myself on nearly anything…”

He turned to look towards his tribulation site, brimming with confidence, “You shouldn’t be an exception either.”

He then gazed at the formation core for a while before waving his hand and using the Temporal Voidplane Ring to discard it far-far away into the nearby crevice that led to the deep trenches of the Southern Abyssal Sea.

The moment he turned around, his Karmic Impersonation – Twilight became undone.

City Lord Kain Waterland died. His life jade shattered in the City Lord Manor, and his mistresses who tied their souls to him spat a mouthful of blood and dropped to the ground, their eyes turning dull as they died.

Shortly after, the Fourth Madam, after learning of the crimes done by her husband, City Lord Kain, and being forced to take accountability for the crimes, loss of lives, Treasury stolen, she publicly committed suicide outside the manor.

Her decision was so quick that it could be seen she had been heartbroken by the City Lord’s death and wanted to protect the other sisters from the fallout.

However, the rest of the wives didn’t fare better as the Hexadra Clan’s members, who guarded the Saint, tried to furiously assault them. The Hexadra Clan’s members who came to look after the order of Eighth Bastion City also didn’t want to leave them alive.

However, Venerable Knight Lussandra saved them in a timely manner instead of going to hunt the Divine Emperor of Death.

The whole city was abuzz and scared by the Divine Emperor of Death’s presence, and the news spread quickly across many cities, creating a wave of panic.

In the skies, the Celestial Transcendent finally appeared, but by that time, it was too late.

The Divine Emperor of Death was long gone.

However, had he really escaped from the overall net of the realm’s forces and the Heaven’s Warriors?

The Celestial Transcendent didn’t seem bothered by his escape.
