Divine Emperor of Death

Chapter 5163: Will Dissonance?

“…”

Jillian Hayden narrowed her eyes.

The Saint was just an extra in this plan of theirs? She was interested in knowing but didn’t know if she should hear more or not. This new, powerful entity who flew in like a true fairy also made her curious, making her wonder how powerful she was.

But suddenly, she noticed something staring down on her face from the side, at a distance of not even a few centimeters.

“Beh!”

“Aaah!”

“Hehehe~”

On one side, with Epsila suddenly scaring Jillian Hayden and laughing all by herself, Fairy Divinacia asked Davis on the other side.

“Is the Saint really required to be dealt with at this moment? He seems to be heavily guarded, judging by what we know. Since he has no influence on our mission, I recommend we commit to our original plan. Epsila said she saw a few powerful figures flying this way, to this Eighth Bastion City in her strange stage. If we don’t make our retreat now and start, I’m afraid that there would be other factors interfering with our mission.”

“Oh? Epsila said that?”

Davis smiled lightly as he cast a glance at the little fairy chasing around Jillian Hayden before returning his gaze.

It was true.

He already knew many experts were making their way here since Fairy Divinacia’s rapid absorption of heaven and earth energy from the Ethereal Lumina Tree with Epsila’s help caused quite a bit of instability in the grand formation of the Bastion Cities.

They had managed to find some clues leading to the Eighth Bastion City.

Still, he had put his City Lord’s forces to deal with them at the moment, so he wasn’t worried.

Davis answered calmly in response, “But I’ve already made my move as I’ve sent a few people to deal with the Saint. Don’t worry. If it fails, I’ll retreat instantly, but you all don’t need to wait for me. You can leave right now. I’ll follow as soon as I’m done.”

“If that’s what you have decided, I won’t say otherwise.”

Fairy Divinacia said respectfully, her pupils even looking at him with a bit of admiration and fear.

His Enigmatic Heart Laws were simply too strong, putting him on the level of Peak Exalts easily. She didn’t know how he would fare against beings at the layer limit, but she trusted he already had his plans since he appeared carefree even with the Heaven’s Warriors prowling around looking for him everywhere.

“Aside from killing that hateful Saint, is the Divine Technique really that important?” Evelynn looked unconvinced.

She also felt that for the utmost safety of Davis, they need not waste time here more than necessary. They had already wasted a few hours after Fairy Divinacia was done with her absorption.

“Evelynn, do you remember the diagnosis Jillian Hayden gave you for your bloodline?”

Evelynn pondered for a moment as she also shot a look at Jillian Hayden, who seemed to have finally calmed down and was threatening Epsila with curses, causing Epsila to be scared.

“…”

Evelynn blinked before returning her gaze, “Mhm, it was confusing, but the gist of it was that the chaotic bloodline of the Chaos Dragon acts as a balancer when it comes to both anarchy and order. It acts like yin, gentle at times and furious at others, perfectly rebounding anything that strays far from the norm.”

“That’s right.” Davis nodded, “Chaos grants infinite possibilities during anarchy and order, capable of changing into any Law, properties, and other energies to tackle the situation at hand to restore balance or screw it depending on the innate nature of the surroundings and many other factors. So what do you think my chaos-tempered body did to my seeds?”

Evelynn raised her hand and touched her chin. “I’m not sure…”

“But since chaos grants infinite possibilities, is it also… connected with fate?”

“Indeed.” Davis nodded as he sent her a soul transmission, “From my hypothesis, chaos caused my seeds to work in my favor of siring children because I was weak compared to the environment I was in at that time, so it gave me more chances to leave my legacy behind, restoring balance regardless of the Will of the Heavens or the universal nature. This resulted in a lot of children, but recently, I’m seeing it has slowed down despite my confidence in my virility. This is because of the insane difficulty of siring children as higher stage cultivators.”

“However, there’s also another factor involved, which you guessed, is my chaos seeds.”

“Even if they are filled with energy capable of wisping life into existence due to life energy, the chaos in it would ultimately snap that advantage as I get stronger and stronger. In our environment, I’m already strong enough to challenge Upper Realm ruling powers, so my ability to sire children and my virility are balanced- weakened by the chaos seeds. Fate plays a huge role in how chaos seeds react. The less danger I am in, the less the chances for leaving a legacy, and the more danger I am in, the higher the chances for leaving a legacy.”

“…” Evelynn blinked.

Was this the reason he had so many children a decade ago? It was difficult to replicate this again unless they moved environments? They needed to go to the Greater Realm to face a greater threat of danger?

Davis ended his hypothesis before telling her with a strange look, “This is why I want Saint Riyal Mendez’s Divine Technique. I want to believe this technique can mitigate the issue brought about by my chaos-tempered body in the higher stages.”

Evelynn’s expression appeared solemn, “So… if you slept with Jillian Hayden right now because of the immense danger surrounding us, she would get pregnant?”

“…”

“Prove it.” She said seriously.

“You’re crazy.” Davis nearly raged as he pointed at her in a hushed gesture, still communicating with soul transmissions, “I don’t know what Zenova did to your mind, but you better return back to looking at me with a reproachful gaze when I start to look at someone else other than your sisters. Otherwise, how can I fight against temptation when I arrogantly think even the heavens aren’t the limit for me?”

“I will do as you say, but not in this expedition.”

Evelynn said sternly before her phoenix eyes turned gentle, “Please be true to your desires. Regardless of the Will Corruption you say you’re enduring due to Enigmatic Heart Laws, I want you to be true to yourself. Since you like Jillian, don’t convince yourself otherwise anymore. I also like her. She’s not bad, a bit broken, but the darkness encumbering her can be lit up by you. You can save her. More than anything, I know you like her. That’s important to me.”

“…”

Davis wanted to say many things, like how she knew him the best, like how it wasn’t up to him, as it was Jillian Hayden’s decision to be with him or not, since he wasn’t that head over heels for her for him to pursue badly. However, the truth was, he might not have fared better in resisting sleeping with Jillian if he hadn’t been wearing the garb of City Lord Kain.

After experiencing many things together, Jillian Hayden didn’t show much resistance to him anymore.

A bit of push, and he knew he could succeed despite what she said about wanting a man only for herself.

But this was exactly what he hated about this situation, his Enigmatic Heart Laws!

He fucking knew every emotion before he even could experience them, while the people in front of him tried to express it through words or didn’t even try to express it.

Loyalty, enmity, devotion, malice- everything was laid before him that he started low-key feeling life was bland even though it was more colorful and intriguing than before. It was incredibly useful, but it didn’t change the fact that it made a few things appear pointless.

He wasn’t afraid his cultivation journey would become pointless, but he was afraid his relationships with his lovely wives would become pointless.

He could tell this kind of reason was what drove State of Divine Possession Enigmatic Heart Law users insane. Even if they reached this level, it was hard to say if they survived it. They all had their own passion, something to be drunk on, but fell into its trap of corruption.

The Sky Word Emperor also seemed to have warned about this matter.

Davis was afraid that if he acted on Jillian Hayden, it might inevitably corrupt his Will since it would be more like acting on his dark desires rather than love. After all, his meeting with Jillian Hayden wasn’t exactly merry but cruelty since she had been City Lord Kain’s prisoner whom he could take advantage of because he had taken over City Lord Kain.

Even though he helped her a lot of times and she even helped him back, this dark feeling still remained. If it were any other time in the past, it wouldn’t have mattered, but it now interfered with his development of his Will, whether it improved or was corrupted was in line.

This was also where he realized that the ‘impose’ of State of Divine Possession purely wasn’t one of a battle against Will but also against the sexes.

A Phyletic Law of the human race at a higher realm was indeed urging him to impose his seeds on hundreds, if not millions, of women in the long run. He hated this feeling slowly rising in him, only amplified by Zenova’s stupid jokes about getting him ten thousand concubines and whatnot.

He felt he must put a stop to it, but even Evelynn was practically recommending Jillian Hayden to him.

More than all of this, there was also the issue of Being of Original Sin.

He didn’t know when this mystical being would suddenly show him in his attempts to impersonate people. He had impersonated quite a few times now, and even laid traps with Fallen Heaven in his realm space, but this damned being never revealed itself even till now.

He also had a theory that the Being of Original Sin would appear if he kept acting on his dark desires.

He had even considered that this urge to sleep with women for no reason was a temporary side effect of devouring City Lord Kain’s Will, but he felt that wasn’t possible due to how easily he took over City Lord Kain’s Will.

Regardless of which, it was true that he liked Jillian Hayden!

He might even be closer to falling in love with her as he adored her for siding with him over the Celestial Transcendent and then even fulfilling her words of helping Evelynn, even though the poison concoction was whack in his opinion.

However, the damned Will he had was also urging him to sleep and have his way with her from the moment he met her. It was himself, but also not.

This was the dissonance he felt- the root cause of his hesitation- the source of corruption.

He had told Jillian Hayden to scram in two days, or he would act on her. It was also a way of keeping his hands to himself, but now that it was time to leave and Evelynn made him realize that he liked Jillian Hayden more than he had guessed, he looked toward her, wanting to confront her one last time before leaving, perhaps never meeting with her again.

But knew that if he stepped forward and confronted her, she would say no because he had scared her by revealing Enigmatic Heart Laws. He could tell that she was unsure of herself and what she was feeling for him right now. In fact, scaring her was an intentional move on his part since he wanted to test her.

There weren’t many women who could trust a master manipulator of Will, and thereby their own emotions, as they wouldn’t be able to tell whether these emotions were theirs or artificially induced. In reality, no one would trust such a person.

Hence, even if he wanted a new woman, it was extremely better for him to vet that woman harder than ever.

Regardless, the fact that Enigmatic Heart Laws and his deep comprehension of Karma Laws allowed him to predict fate like this and see ahead of what Jillian Hayden would do also made him stop. She could only impress him if she were to act in an unpredictable way, but that’s not happening since he still felt in control of the situation.

His sense of danger wasn’t ringing yet, and neither did his instincts recognize that something was wrong.

Everything except Evelynn here ranged from bland to mildly intriguing to him. Perhaps he was bored beyond compare.

This was an emotion that he had wanted to shake off ever since he arrived here. After all, it wasn’t like everything had been bland to him, so what was this stifled and sinking feeling?

Where did it come from?

Was it just as Evelynn said? Should he just be true to his desires? It didn’t matter if it was good or bad?

“What are you thinking for so long?”

Abruptly, Evelynn’s voice made him come out of his reverie. With a blink of his eyes that shuttered Jillian Hayden from his gaze, he turned to look at Evelynn.

“I understand. I will talk to her once I finish off the Saint. You bring her away in your life ring if you’re leaving early.”

“Understood.”

Evelynn answered softly before she saw Davis disappear.

It seemed his opportune moment to kill the Saint had arrived, so he dipped in the last second possible before he could feel a different trajectory in fate descending that screws them over.
