Divine Emperor of Death

Chapter 4925  Paying Respects?

”Iʼm here to pay my respects, Your Highness. Please accept my sincerity.”

Zenova spread her arms all the way before bringing them closer and kneeling, her head lowered as she extended the arm where a jade container appeared in her palms.

Claire appeared taken aback before she gazed at Yilla and Schleya, who were behind Zenova. They shrugged while Yilla sent a soul transmission, saying Zenova may or may not be here to curry favor in an attempt to become the new Empress. Yilla also added that Zenova was a real Empress of an ancient family, greatly intriguing Claire.

Zenova didnʼt intercept the transmission, still keeping her head lowered.

Claire turned to look at Logan. The latter eyed her to deal with Zenova since he was speechless as well.

Claire giggled as she let Loganʼs hand go and stood up. She walked towards Zenova.

”Your Highness?” Claireʼs sweet yet prideful voice resounded.

”Haha~ Iʼm glad you think of me as an Empress Dowager, but these children of mine are just playing empire and not really working on it as they should. We donʼt even have ministers and war generals except the Reaper Soul Legion. My son and daughters-in-law like to be free than be restrained by etiquette and other time-consuming activities that donʼt give them any happiness.”

”…” Zenova blinked.

She had always wondered why there were no minsters and it turns out everything from the family affairs to the sanctuary affairs was being dealt with by the harem.

”Good daughter, stand up, stand up.”

Claire didnʼt take the gift but helped Zenova up first.

Zenova stood up and gazed at Claireʼs beautiful face. She slightly moved the jade container towards her.

”Please donʼt take offense. This gift is merely congratulatory and doesnʼt have any intention behind it. I wish mother a billion years of happiness and health.”

”Oh my~ Claire smiled, ”Iʼm honored. But Iʼm telling you, trying to curry favor with me wonʼt get you anywhere since I donʼt have any control over his harem.”

”Regardless, I insist,” Zenova said in her naturally sexy yet firm voice.

”Well, Iʼll take it then.” Claire didnʼt hesitate anymore.

She learned that Davis had taken Zenova as his thirty-second wife, so she adhered to his decision despite her previous biases. She didnʼt have any interest in the treasure itself as she opened it, but her expression went shocked as her eyes went wide.

She instantly closed the jade container, looking at Zenova with disbelief.

”You… you want to gift me an Exalt Grade resource?”

Her words made everyone else surprised, including Logan.

”Yes, mother. Itʼs a Fire-Attributed High-Level Exalt Grade resource.”

”But… but Iʼve just entered the Empyrean Stage…”

”I insist.” Zenova smiled lightly, her black eyes gleaming with a crimson shade.

Yilla and Schleya were speechless. They stared at Zenova, knowing she had gotten ahead of them since they hadnʼt taken the resources from her to put them into the Treasury. She was bribing their mother-in-law!

”What a good daughter. I heard many bad things about you, but it seems like they were just rumors. Come, come, come. Sit here.”

Claire grabbed Zenovaʼs hand with warmth and brought her to a luxurious sofa nearby as she sat along with her.

Yillaʼs jaw dropped, ʼRumors? Mother-in-law, this woman literally kidnapped your favored son back then!ʼ

Schleya blinked. She wished she had this kind of mindset. In contrast, it made her wonder what she hadnʼt done for her mother-in-law when she had so many chances to do so.

Claire made small talk with Zenova, praising her for being a good daughter-in-law, but she didnʼt praise her to the heavens. After all, her daughters-in-law still came to see her when they had time to talk with her. Everyone came except her son, so she was mad about him, but she loved her daughters-in-law since they were all good to her.

She also guessed that Zenova wanted to befriend her and hence, she was receptive.

After the small talk, Claire got to the point.

”So, how did you get my son to fall in love with you?”

”I charmed him.”

Zenova didnʼt hide it, making Claire and Logan speechless.

Zenova expressionlessly went into detail, telling them how she planned out, even revealing some details that Davis didnʼt know about the charm poison and seal.

”Despite all this- the seal merely affected him for a few seconds, according to his words. I was completely defeated, yet he continued to play me like a fool, and like a fool, here I am, willing to listen to him and adhere to his words, all because I fell in love.”

Zenova finally blushed a bit, her expression uncomfortable but still filled with happiness, ”Finally, I became pregnant with his child.”

Claire gasped before she hurriedly checked Zenovaʼs pulse. It was faint, but she could certainly detect the other life growing inside her. To be able to sense it now, she guessed the baby was firm and strong.

Claire remained speechless, not knowing what to say as she listened to Zenovaʼs whole story. This woman was a total villainess. She couldnʼt believe her son had chosen such a woman, but she smirked.

”Youʼre so bad… but I like it. A womanʼs got to be like this- throw a net to capture the man she loves or die trying.”

Claire turned to look at Logan, fond memories surfacing in her mind.

Logan raised his brows, thinking it was the opposite. However, he did find some semblance between Claire and Zenova. Both of them were crazy and aggressive, but Claire had gradually calmed down after having given birth to her son. Having to send away their son in order to protect him had nearly shattered her.

Regardless, he guessed Zenova was similar and might eventually settle down as Claire once did. Claire considered many things about the baby before she offered.

”I heard you have a bad relationship with Evelynn. Do you want me to mediate between you two?”

Zenovaʼs uncomfortable expression faded, replaced with a solemn one.

”No, I can take care of it myself.”

”I insist.”

”No, I-”

”I insist.” Claire was on her face, glaring at her with widened eyes.

”…”

Zenovaʼs solemn expression faded, replaced with some fright. She didnʼt expect her mother-in-law to be so forceful. Although the other party was only a Level One Empyrean, she didnʼt think she could harm a strand of her hair since she was her mother-in-law. Unable to do anything, she could only stare back at her.

Claire smilingly turned.

”Yilla, can you please call Evelynn here?~”

”Yes, mother~”

Yilla nodded before she left.

Claire held Zenovaʼs hand, ”Know your place. You are absolutely a part of the Davis Family and the same as your sisters. Since my son allowed you home, it is your responsibility to hold no ill intent against any one of your sisters.”

”…” Zenova was about to answer, but Yilla returned quickly.

Behind her, Evelynn also appeared, her steps faint and her aura heavy.
