Divine Emperor of Death

Chapter 4918  Heavenly Restriction Pact

”According to Tia,” Evelynn started, ”A Heavenly Restriction Pact is somewhat similar to a Heavenly Curse that the Heavenly Ghost Crow is able to use through their species technique. It is a type of curse that is activated when a few conditions are met. Rumors indicate that the Ancestor of the Heavenly Ghost Crow Clan managed to make his curses powerful because of the Heavenly Restriction Pact.”

Davis and Mingzhiʼs brows raised as they looked at each other.

Back then, one of the members of the Heavenly Ghost Crow Clan claimed to have killed the most powerful Anarchic Divergent to ever exist. Because of that, they claimed they were blessed by the heavens. Every Heavenly Ghost Crow then was able to use powerful curses that were able to take down their foes beyond their own power and still not receive karmic sin.

So it was related to this Heavenly Restriction Pact?

They turned to look at Evelynn.

Mingzhi asked, ”What are the conditions?”

Evelynn continued, ”As far as Tia could guess, the first condition is to be punished by the heavens. The second condition is to have an extraordinary Will that can stand against the heavens. The third condition is to survive the punishment and then challenge the heavens during a tribulation thatʼs far more powerful than they can handle. It could be interpreted as facing someone elseʼs powerful tribulation, which they would most likely not survive. The fourth condition is to offer something precious or form restrictions on oneself during the challenge so as to leverage your resolve. There could be more conditions that are unknown to us that could exist, but basically, Natalya fulfilled all these four conditions.”

She heaved a breath, unable to believe that carefree little sister of hers really went against the heavens without a care in the world. She was a true fanatic if she had ever seen one.

”Oh?” Mingzhi appeared intrigued.

”You cannot challenge the heavens in your own tribulation, but can challenge it in someone elseʼs tribulation?” Davis blinked.

He wasnʼt a stranger to facing someone elseʼs tribulation. He did it for Tia first before he did it for anyone else. Even for Lucian and Kronos Alistair, he technically didnʼt face their tribulations for them but swallowed their tribulations with his own.

Then did he also have the chance to challenge the heavens?

”Iʼm not sure how it works…” Evelynn blinked, ”You should ask Tia when she returns.”

”…” Davis nearly face-palmed himself.

Such an important thing, but Tia didnʼt say anything and went away. Of course, it was he who brought a potential disaster home in the form of Zhao Yan and asked her to take care of it, so he couldnʼt blame her. He guessed she left everything to Evelynn to deal with it since she believed that she might deal better than herself.

After all, Tia had cut his patience short a few times in the secret realm. He figured she didnʼt want to get in trouble again.

Evelynn continued, ”Tia theorized that the Heavenly Ghost Crowʼs Ancestor was rude to the heavens, got punished by it, and when he faced an Anarchic Divergent under his tribulation without cowering, he challenged the heavens that he would kill the Anarchic Divergent before it could, while offering something like his life, and then succeeded. Hence, he and his entire bloodline came to possess a powerful curse species technique. The Heavenly Restriction Pact turned into a blessing.”

”…”

Davis couldnʼt help but nod. It made sense.

”Then… any idea on how to dissolve this pact?”

”…” Evelynn shook her head, ”Itʼs a life and death pact. Tia said Natalya might dissolve into nothingness as her truesoul dissipates from being unable to complete her challenge, only existing within the confines of your soul like she is your own imagination.”

ʼ…!?”

Davis shuddered.

What kind of horror episode was that?

He would be glad to have Natalya in his soul, but only his imagination?

He shook his head, ”Then any other ideas to bring back Natalya unharmed then?”

”None.” Evelynn apologetically shook her head.

”…”

Davis looked up.

He couldnʼt go meet Natalya, nor could he wait, allowing Natalya to remain in a state where she wasnʼt herself.

Part of him felt like everything would go well and that Natalya would be ʼawakenedʼ if he were to return to her, but it would be nothing more than a pure gamble.

Could he gamble away Natalyaʼs life on a whim? He needed to consider all paths before he made a move lest he made a blunder.

ʼHeh, this isnʼt something one can do unless theyʼre craz-”

Davis abruptly froze.

Did it require a fanatic to do this? Then should he also just become one?

”Devotion…” Davis uttered ever so lightly, ”Blind faith… I see…”

He recalled Natalyaʼs words that she dared to utter to the heavens with utter contempt.

His back became straight as his lips curled ever so lightly, ”Then I guess thereʼs nothing to worry about when it comes to our Natalya. Iʼll go meet Lydia first.”

”What did you realize?” Evelynnʼs brows flickered with joy as she saw him become confident.

”Particularly nothing.”

”…”

Seeing Davis shrug, her heart sank to the depths of the abyss. He shouldnʼt be half-hearted about this matter, but seeing him look convinced rather than careless, she found it hard to say anything.

”Wouldnʼt it be better to see Natalya first?” Ellia suggested hesitantly.

She was all for Davis confronting their ʼchildʼ, but if she had known about Natalyaʼs matter, then she wouldʼve postponed it later. It wasnʼt like Lydia was in danger or anything. To Lydia, she was aware that they themselves were the danger. Any attempts to expose her in any way might end badly, but on the other hand, they only need to save Natalya, and Davis seemed quite confident.

”Ellia, do you know what it means to devote yourself to someone that you stop thinking about their limits and have all the faith in them to succeed in whatever they try?”

”…?”

Davis didnʼt answer. He kept his smile and turned to look at Stella.

He asked her to be ready for his signal before moving into the sanctuary for the first time.
