I Became The Chief Of A Primitive Village

Chapter 944, Fine Feathers Make Fine Birds

Yan Jiao rushed hurriedly towards the Yong’an Building, apparently carrying a rather large Animal Hide Bag.

*Step step step…*

After receiving permission, he strode into the second floor living room and placed the bag on the ground.

“Shaman, Scale Insects have suddenly appeared in the Tribe, but they’ve been dealt with,” Yan Jiao said respectfully.

“Oh? So this time you have something to report?” Su Bai asked.

He knew that such small matters would not warrant the Chieftain to make a special report. There must be something else.

“Yes, Shaman. Look at this thing. It was stripped from a Ferocious Beast. I thought the Shaman should know whether this item is useful.” Yan Jiao opened the bag and removed piece after piece of scales. “So I removed all these scales from the Ferocious Beast.”

Now, whenever the Tribe encountered anything unusual, everything would be brought to the Yong’an Building.

Because no one knew whether these items were useful. Like before, many useless things became useful in Su Bai’s hands.

For example, the Red Knot Tree, had its trunk now used as water pipes, which connected to the great river. Then, there was cement for building houses, or glass, paper, and such.

“These scales look very hard, and there are quite a few. They can be crafted into weapons or armour and the like.” Su Bai examined the scales continuously, saying, “Take them directly to the weapon workshop. I’ll provide them with blueprints later. They’ll know what to do.”

Upon seeing these scales, his first thought was to make them into armour.

Although the current Warriors were all very strong and possessed proper weapons, the only thing lacking was equipment for their bodies.

In short, armour.

Western knights had armour, Eastern soldiers had chain mail. As the saying goes, a good horse needs a good saddle. Armour was also crucial.

“Shaman, do we need many more scales?” Yan Jiao asked.

“Wasn’t there only one Scale Insect? Are there many more?” Su Bai asked.

Yan Jiao smiled and shook his head. He placed the scales in his hand back into the bag and said, “Their nest isn’t far from us. Capturing them would be very simple.”

“Excellent. Have people capture more Scale Insects. These scales will be very useful to us,” Su Bai said with satisfaction.

During last year’s eternal night, although many armoured Ferocious Beasts invaded, the numbers were ultimately limited.

The materials obtainable from their bodies were also limited. There was not enough to make armour. They could only make shields and the like.

Su Bai had long wanted to create armour. At the time, he thought if there weren’t suitable Ferocious Beast materials, having iron would also be good.

Because iron could be used to forge armour, which was another excellent material for forging armour.

“Understood.” Yan Jiao nodded.

“By the way, have many people been coming to the Tribe recently?” Su Bai asked.

He wanted to know whether, due to the approaching rainy season, people from other Tribes would still come at this time.

“Not many. Far fewer than usual. Actually, almost none. Probably in a couple of days no one will come,” Yan Jiao’s rough voice rang out.

“In that case, in a few days, people from other Tribes should all leave. Then, we will only have our people remaining within the Tribe.” Su Bai nodded thoughtfully, continuing, “That’s convenient. The remaining time will belong to us.”

He was happy with this. Once the Tribe had no outsiders, he wouldn’t need to be too cautious when wanting to do certain things.

Currently, when the Tribe built cement houses or prepared food, everything had to be done secretly or concealed with objects.

This was to prevent people from other Tribes from learning by observation, which was ultimately quite troublesome.

“Yes. However, building cement houses has been more difficult. Once the rainy season ends, construction will be simpler.” Yan Jiao nodded. “This way, the rainy season isn’t actually a bad thing for us. Our Tribe can continue developing.”

The Chieftain smiled particularly happily. Since Su Bai took over the Tribe, his face had displayed smiles every single day.

Whether concerning housing, food, clothing, or daily necessities; all these had been resolved well.

When other Tribes were still worrying about food, the Flame Dragon Tribe was considering trading food away. When other Tribes were still troubled about allocating a few Animal Hides, the Flame Dragon Tribe had already created soft, comfortable linen.

As for salt, when they were still trading with other Tribes for salt mixed with stone fragments, or even poisonous salt.

The Flame Dragon Tribe could already produce salt themselves. That salt was snow white without any impurities. This was the difference.

“Just arrange things according to last year’s arrangements. Adjust based on my modifications for the rest,” Su Bai said calmly.

Last year’s rainy season was quite fulfilling. At least everyone wouldn’t be idle.

He didn’t want the rainy season’s arrival to cause everyone to become idle. The work that needed doing still had to be done. There were many matters before and during last year’s rainy season. For example, before the rainy season, collecting firewood, fruit, food, and such.

After the rainy season arrived, everyone began doing handicrafts at home. Warriors trained in the rain and gathered foods only available during the rainy season.

The strong and healthy moved stones, preparing for house construction after the rainy season ended. Everyone had their assigned roles.

“Yes, Shaman.” Yan Jiao nodded.

“By the way, how is the Kerosene Fruit harvesting going? How much has the Tribe stored?” Su Bai continued asking.

Kerosene Fruit was an important reserve resource for the Flame Dragon Tribe. It could be used as fuel for hot air balloons and as fuel for home fire pits.

The extracted Kerosene Fruit Juice could be used to manufacture certain gunpowder weapons. In short, it was extremely important.

“Fortunately, the Kerosene Fruit is around our Tribe. People are sent daily to harvest it. We’ve also specifically built a cellar for storing Kerosene Fruit.”

Yan Jiao’s expression was particularly serious. “We’ve also arranged for people to extract and store the Kerosene Fruit Juice. Rest assured, Shaman, the quantity we have in store is more than enough.”

“That’s good. Have proper moisture-proofing measures been implemented in the cellar? I don’t want an entire cellar of Kerosene Fruits to become damp,” Su Bai asked.

“We’ve placed many wooden frames on the ground to raise everything up. We’ve also spread much dry grass on the wooden frames, and finally laid waterproof Smooth Skin Lizard Hide on top. It’s absolutely impossible for moisture to penetrate.”

Yan Jiao looked utterly confident. When doing these things, he had personally supervised.

“Good. I trust your work. Remember to rest more,” Su Bai said courteously.

After all, Yan Jiao was his Senior. He respected him and did not treat him as someone of lower status.

“Thank you, Shaman. I’ll go busy myself now.” Yan Jiao left with a hearty laugh, his heart blooming with joy.
