I Became The Chief Of A Primitive Village

Chapter 922, Water Management Measures

Ye Jiu curiously widened her round grey eyes, her gaze fixed on the wooden canopy formed by interwoven branches.

Rather than calling it a wooden canopy, this was more accurately a natural barrier spontaneously formed by trees.

This natural barrier was tremendously shocking, because looking across the expanse, the barrier’s coverage area was genuinely vast.

If such a large wooden canopy were to be manually constructed, it would likely require half a month’s time. Yet only approximately ten days remained until the rainy season arrived. There was just not enough time.

Moreover, any manually constructed wooden canopy might not prove sturdy, and likely could not support itself for long.

“This…” Yan Jiao also felt tremendously shocked, momentarily speechless.

He circled around the trees, meticulously examining the Shaman’s masterpiece.

“Shaman, can a Shaman Technique truly do this?” Yan Jiao genuinely could not believe his eyes.

He had previously heard Su Bai discuss the forest farmland plan. Specifically, the plan to cultivate crops during the rainy season.

However, he had not anticipated such rapid implementation, thinking it would require at least next year.

Because this year’s timeline was already too constrained. They would have to wait until next spring to build up the wooden canopy.

Yet in merely the time it took to drink water, this forest farmland was already protected by an enormous tree barrier.

“Do you believe this wooden canopy will allow us to cultivate crops during the rainy season?” Su Bai asked in a slightly relaxed tone.

“Absolutely possible, Shaman. Rainwater will be limited, so the crops can be protected.” Yan Jiao responded without hesitation.

He looked up at the canopy above, carefully observing the gaps between interwoven branches.

He discovered the gaps connected extremely well. The rainwater falling from the sky would find it hard to fully penetrate through and reach the ground.

“In that case, let’s move on to the next task. We must implement drainage too.” Su Bai frowned slightly.

He surveyed the area, discovering the farmland’s soil did not differ significantly from the surrounding terrain.

Meaning during the rainy season, with daily rainfall, water from other areas would flow through this farmland.

Therefore, crops cultivated in the farmland would be affected, precisely why he needed to consider drainage measures.

“Shaman, what is drainage?” Yan Jiao was completely unfamiliar with this concept.

“Drainage will allow the farmland to receive rainwater without becoming flooded by that rainwater.”

Su Bai examined the soil on the ground, continuing, “We need multiple drainage measures. Otherwise, we cannot accommodate excessive rain, which would drown the crops alive.”

“Shaman, just give the orders. I’ll immediately have the Warriors construct the drainage, enabling us to cultivate crops during the rainy season.” Yan Jiao became serious immediately.

He had originally planned to arrange other tasks today, but hearing the Shaman intended to implement the previously mentioned rainy season cultivation plan…

He could not concern himself with other Tribe work, only wanting to quickly observe the implementation process.

“We don’t need Warriors for these tasks. Many future activities won’t require Warriors either.” Su Bai planned a reform. Most matters in Tribes depended on Totem Warriors to complete. Without Totem Warriors in the Tribes, everyone’s task would be completed far slower.

So, he wished to change the situation.

“Not have Warriors do it? Shaman, if ordinary people do it, it might take even longer.”

Yan Jiao appeared somewhat troubled, stating directly, “We might not complete it before the rainy season arrives.”

After all, for the Tribe, time was of the essence, so they needed to work extremely quickly.

This explained why the Tribe previously relied on Warriors to construct wood houses and handle various other tasks.

“This time I have designed a blueprint, plus with more people, we will be able to meet the deadline.” Su Bai stated confidently.

“Does the Shaman have a good plan in mind?” Yan Jiao asked curiously.

“The farmland’s drainage channel is simple. Just follow the blueprint. Anyone can do it.” Su Bai had Yu Ying produce a blueprint, handing it over. “Look at this blueprint. Starting today, have members begin construction.”

He had already instructed the Tribe’s stonemasons to manufacture hoes and iron rakes and similar agricultural tools.

So, Warriors were not needed to handle these tasks. Ordinary people could do them directly.

“Alright.” Yan Jiao accepted the blueprint and began examining it. The more he looked, the wider his red eyes grew.

He discovered everything depicted was extraordinarily realistic, something nobody else could accomplish.

The Tribe currently had no one capable of drawing, and even if someone could, they likely could not reach the Shaman’s level.

Because when he had previously gone to the Spotted Deer Tribe to trade, he had the fortune of seeing someone else’s artwork.

Apparently that person was a quite famous artist, yet that painting was unappealing.

No. At the time of viewing, it seemed acceptable, but comparing it to Su Bai’s drawing, there was an astronomical difference.

“How is it? Can the drainage channels in the blueprint be completed?” Su Bai still needed to ask the other’s opinion.

After all, he did not understand the normal members as thoroughly as the Chieftain, so he needed to assess his perspective.

“According to the drainage channels the Shaman had drawn, we should complete this in three or four days.”

Yan Jiao’s red eyes never left the blueprint, continuing. “This way, it seems our crops truly won’t be affected.”

He felt tremendously shocked. This concept was too advanced, something absolutely nobody else could conceive. At least, that was his assessment, because he had encountered quite a few people, yet none were as intelligent as the Shaman.

“Excellent. I’m entrusting this task to you. You must complete it before the rainy season arrives.” Su Bai instructed.

However, Su Bai harboured another different idea, something completely dependent on the System.

He needed to see if future System rewards might yield different Skills. If he could obtain his desired Skill, everything would become exponentially more efficient.

“Don’t worry, Shaman. I’ll definitely handle this matter properly.” Yan Jiao responded with utmost seriousness.

For no other reason than seeing the natural barrier overhead, his heart suddenly felt the weight of this mission.

He absolutely must complete this task properly, otherwise he would fail to honour the Shaman’s current masterpiece.
