The Fierce Farm Girl Has A Secret Space

Chapter 1020: Chapter 1020: Brutal (27)

The ten competing eagles were drawn into five pairs, after which the strong five were selected. Then these five eagles would fight each other two at a time until the last one emerged victorious...

To prevent the eagles from losing control and injuring people, the competition was held inside cages.

Such activities were truly cruel.

Soon, a clerk announced the order of the matches. Xiaohei would face off against number nine in the first match, which was the third to take place.

The first match was between eagle number one and eagle number ten.

People began to call out bets.

Those who could afford to watch the competition were well-off and leisurely, only there to gamble; as soon as betting was announced, they were instantly surrounded by bettors.

On-site betting was very flexible. You could predict who would be the champion right now, or you could bet on the winner of each match as it happened, with the minimum bet set at one hundred taels.

Yang Ruxin had no interest in this. What she was most eager to find out was how much this year’s jackpot was; however, it was said that it would only be announced during the final showdown.

After the betting ended, the competition began. Eagles number one and ten, both grey, were placed into the cage. As soon as they were unrestrained, the two creatures started attacking each other inside the cage, and feathers quickly began to fly... In the end, eagle number one had a slight advantage, and after number ten fell to the ground and twitched its legs, it lay motionless, obviously dead.

Immediately, the winners cheered, while those who lost began to curse their luck.

No one cared about the dead eagle.

Although Yang Ruxin was no saint, she still felt desolate. In this society, where human rights were hardly a consideration, what was the life of a bird worth?

Gu Qingheng glanced at Yang Ruxin and then took her hand by his side.

Yang Ruxin clasped his hand in return, her mood improving greatly.

After a bit of turmoil, the competition resumed. This time, eagles number three and four came into play, both white. Number three was Jiang Shao’s Great General, the champion of the previous year, and upon his entrance, he received cheers from the crowd. Almost unanimously, people bet on number three.

But Yang Ruxin had lost the desire to bet.

The Great General lived up to expectations, quickly wounding his opponent. Although number four wasn’t dead, it was covered in blood. Without treatment, it was unlikely to survive.

The victory was an easy one, and the crowd erupted into cheers. Although the odds were low due to the high number of bets, a win was still a win.

The owner of number four wore a look of gloom. He didn’t even want the eagle and let the servants throw the injured number four out of the arena.

Next up were Xiaohei and number nine. Number nine was also a black eagle, seemingly a bit larger than Xiaohei.

”Is that also a Hai Dongqing?” Yang Ruxin frowned.

”No,” Gu Qingheng shook his head. ”In this group, only number eight and Xiaohei are Hai Dongqing. The rest are decent eagles, but this number nine seems quite formidable. It’s as strong as Xiaohei but slower... Xiaohei’s opponent is tough...”

Yang Ruxin raised her eyebrows slightly. To be honest, she knew Hai Dongqing were eagles, but not all eagles were Hai Dongqing, and she didn’t know how to tell them apart.

Sure enough, in terms of betting, number nine was a bit more popular than Xiaohei.

Out of frustration, Yang Ruxin asked Shuimu to place a bet of one thousand taels, hoping to boost Xiaohei’s popularity.

Watching her look indignant, Gu Qingheng smiled indulgently. This girl was too protective of her own.
