Chapter 1012: Chapter 1012: Nine Cities Casino (19)

Just then, footsteps approached, followed by the voices of Ye San and Shuimu, who had been waiting outside. However, after a long wait and seeing no sign of their masters coming downstairs, they had no choice but to come looking.

”Let’s go to the night market, I’m hungry too,” Yang Ruxin patted Gu Qingheng’s arm, ”They’re here.”

Although Gu Qingheng was reluctant, he still let go of his grip, but he held tightly onto one of Yang Ruxin’s hands.

The night market in Linjiang City was vast, with numerous streets teeming with people. Of course, the variety of goods was rich, and there were plenty of street foods as well.

”Sister, the meat pies that thin old man is making over there smell so good...” Shuimu, being young and lively, began to incessantly introduce to Yang Ruxin the treats that he knew or thought tasted good, ”And there’s also the silken tofu that the ’Tofu Xishi’ makes, so smooth and white...”

”We’ll try everything you mentioned,” Yang Ruxin said as she tossed a purse to Shuimu, ”You’re in charge of buying, but don’t waste anything. We’ll buy as much as we can eat.”

”Righto,” Shuimu said excitedly as he zigzagged towards the stalls, while Ye San stayed close to the two of them, occasionally blocking the surrounding crowd to protect their masters from being jostled. Being a servant, one must always look the part, which was something Shadow Thirteen had taught them these days.

”Hey hey, who are you betting on to win tomorrow?” Two people chatted as they passed by.

”I heard that a Black General has arrived, very formidable, I’m thinking of betting on that one...”

”That one’s only been here a few days, and no one dares say whether it’s been well trained, aren’t you afraid of losing?”

”True, then who are you betting on?”

”The White General from last year is still competing this year, I want to bet on that one, it made me win a thousand taels last year, I’m thinking of staking two thousand taels this year...”

”I’ll think about it...”

Watching the two people walk away, Yang Ruxin blinked, ”Can we still place bets on tomorrow’s eagle fight?”

”There’s betting on everything,” Gu Qingheng laughed, ”What, are you interested too?”

”I should at least show some support for Xiaohei, right?” Yang Ruxin smiled and then looked at Ye San, ”Where is the casino?”

”The biggest one in the Prefectural City is just on the next street,” Ye San pointed to the right, ”It’s called the Nine Cities Casino...”

At this moment, Shuimu came out holding four meat pies.

”Let’s go, let’s check out the casino,” Yang Ruxin took one and bit into it, ”It is quite fragrant.”

Shuimu immediately sported a proud smile.

Nine Cities Casino was a three-story wooden building with a large entrance and two brawny men standing on each side, probably the bouncers.

”The first floor is the main hall, for all kinds of patrons, with no limits on how much they can bet. The second floor is for private rooms, each with a set minimum bet of at least five hundred taels of silver. Of course, the service is better, with servants on hand to provide teas, meals, and fruits. As for the third floor, that’s not for the common folk, as the minimum stake there starts at ten thousand taels of silver, with each gamble resulting in losses or gains of tens of thousands. So, basically, no one goes up there...” Ye San was quite familiar with the casino and provided Yang Ruxin a detailed introduction.

Yang Ruxin nodded her head and then walked through the grand entrance.

In this era, casinos were dominated by men, and it was rare for women to appear in such places. As a result, Yang Ruxin attracted quite a few stares as soon as she entered the door, but seeing that she was accompanied by several people, everyone then went back to whatever they were doing.

Yang Ruxin was unfazed, scanning the bustling hall with a glance before setting her sights on an area to one side dedicated to placing bets for tomorrow’s eagle fights.
