Urban Divine Doctor Descends the Mountain

Chapter 1140: Chapter 1139: Powerful Mental Power

Seeing that Lin Dong agreed, Master Bai Mei and Zhang Tianjue both revealed a trace of a smile on their faces.

At the moment, Lin Dong didn’t really prepare, and he directly walked towards the Divine Witchcraft Altar.

As soon as he stepped into the range of the Divine Witchcraft Altar, he found the environment around him suddenly change, with yin winds rising up and he instantly felt enveloped by darkness.

A mist slowly condensed, forming into the shape of a skeleton. And that skeleton shape, actually slowly opened its mouth:

”Comer, are you the one to challenge the formation?”

Lin Dong clasped his fists and said, ”Indeed, I am the challenger.”

The skeleton-shaped mist cackled, and then the world within the formation changed once again.

”The first trial, as long as you can withstand the assault of the formation, then you shall be deemed to have passed!”

No sooner had these words been spoken than the surrounding environment became extremely cold in an instant, with yin winds blowing in the face, and countless spirits wailing as they approached.

Seeing those spirits wailing towards him, Lin Dong subconsciously wanted to condense Alchemist Fire, but at that moment he was surprised to discover that he couldn’t use his Inner Qi within the formation at all.

His face drastically changed, as he watched those spirits surround him.

They emitted a wail like ghosts and howl like wolves, speaking horrifying gibberish in Lin Dong’s ears.

”I’m so hungry, I haven’t eaten for three days before I died. I was starved to death alive, I want to eat you...”

”Wuu wuu wuu, my death was so terrible. I was from a broken family since childhood, living with my sister and father, who remarried when I was five. My step-mother didn’t like my sister and me, she persuaded my father to push us off a high-rise building. I desperately clung to the window, pleadingly looking at my father, begging him not to, but he looked at me with a sinister gaze and pried my hands loose... Brother, can you help me? Just lend me your body, and I can come back to life... I want to see this beautiful and prosperous world...”

”I am filled with hatred, I used to be a wealthy young master, and had my name written on the golden list. I married the Chancellor’s treasured daughter, life was supposed to be incomparably good, yet on the way to my appointment with my wife, we were attacked by robbers. Those robbers killed me, took over my position, took possession of my wife and daughter... I am so full of hatred, can you help me, kill that evil person?”

”...”

In Lin Dong’s ears, countless spirits lingered, each telling their own tales of past grievances, their unjust lives.

These words of the spirits were the whispers of resentful ghosts; some true, some false, all assaulting Lin Dong’s spirit.

If it was a common person, under this onslaught of ghostly whispers, it wouldn’t be long before they suffered a mental breakdown, turning crazy.

Only someone with powerful mental power could withstand their minds and be unaffected.

Unable to use his Inner Qi, Lin Dong simply sat cross-legged, using his powerful mental power to fend off the attack of these spirits.

Those spirits, seeing Lin Dong’s mental power as immense, commenced to increase their whispering voices, with more and more spirits flying towards him.

At first, there were hundreds, then it turned into thousands, and then it became tens of thousands...

Tens of thousands of spirits, swirling around Lin Dong, their forms transparent shadows, continuously passing through his body, voices uttering various gibberish to affect Lin Dong’s spirit.

They sought to guide Lin Dong’s emotions, his anger, his sympathy, his fear, his desire...

Yet Lin Dong sat cross-legged, immovable as an elder monk, unaffected by any of the spirits’ influences.

Outside the formation, Bai Mei and Zhang Tianjue could both see the scene before them, and at the moment both were immensely astonished.

The trial formation for the Legacy of the Sovereign Witch had a history of several thousand years. Over these years, each leader of the Sovereign Witch Sect had attempted it, to see if they could break through the formation and thus obtain the legacy.

Yet over thousands of years, not a single person had succeeded!

Bai Mei and Zhang Tianjue, as gifted individuals of the Sovereign Witch Sect, both had attempted to break through the formation.

However, they both fell at this first stage.

Yes, the first stage—they did not get past it!

What this first stage tested, they also knew.

It was mental power!

The invasion of Yin Spirits greatly affects a person’s mental power. If someone’s mental strength is not strong enough, akin to that of an ordinary person, then just one Yin Spirit could invade and cause mental collapse.

Even for those who cultivated spells and whose mental power was much stronger than ordinary people, under the influence of a dozen or so Yin Spirits, it was easy to suffer a mental breakdown.

Like initially, when Bai Mei challenged the formation, he failed due to a mental breakdown under the invasion of over a hundred Yin Spirits.

Zhang Tianjue had slightly stronger mental power than Bai Mei and failed under the invasion of more than two hundred Yin Spirits.

Now, seeing Lin Dong attempt the formation, they were shocked beyond words to find that he could maintain his sanity under the invasion of tens of thousands of Yin Spirits. His powerful mental strength left them speechlessly astonished!

”Master Lin’s mental strength is just too terrifying, isn’t it? With such a talent for mental power, if he cultivates spells, it’s simply unimaginable to what extent he can reach in the future!” exclaimed Zhang Tianjue.

He had thought that Master Lin was only exceptionally gifted in martial arts; little did he expect that his talent for mental power was also terrifyingly formidable.

Master Bai Mei was also utterly shocked, ”Throughout the many years of our Sovereign Witch Sect, among the many gifted individuals in the Witch Dao, it seems none have ever confronted tens of thousands of Yin Spirits in the first stage like him!”

In the history of their Sovereign Witch Sect, there were indeed some who had passed the first stage. However, when they did so, as long as they withstood the invasion of three thousand Yin Spirits, they were considered successful.

But now, the number of Yin Spirits invading Lin Dong had reached thirty thousand!

”The stronger a person’s mental power, the higher the limit of Yin Spirits they will face when challenging the formation. It is unknown at how many Yin Spirits the invasion will max out for Master Lin to be deemed successful in this challenge!”

At the moment, Lin Dong was sitting cross-legged with his eyes closed; he had no idea how many Yin Spirits were surrounding him.

All he knew was that countless ghostly whispers were lingering around his ears, and despite his utmost resistance, he was starting to feel a bit overwhelmed.

This kind of invasion by Yin Spirits was truly dreadful.

He could only clench his teeth and persevere.

Gradually, cold sweat began to seep out on his forehead. His face started to contort with the strain.

Finally, when the number of Yin Spirits reached over forty thousand, the voice of the cloud in the shape of a skull sounded:

”Challenger, your mental power is the strongest I have seen since I started guarding this stage. You have withstood the invasion of forty-four thousand four hundred and forty-four resentful spirits, and you have successfully passed the first stage.”

”Boom~~~” As the voice fell, all the darting Yin Spirits around Lin Dong instantly vanished.

The environment of the formation around Lin Dong also suddenly changed.

Seeing this, Bai Mei and Zhang Tianjue, who were outside the formation, both showed joy on their faces.

And Bai Mei could not help but sigh:

”Master Lin has smoothly passed the first stage. After eighty years, finally, someone has once again passed the first stage!”
